  1. What's the minimum size of screen you'd consider... and do you have any other devices already that might be suitable with an extra bit of hardware or software? Jonathan
  2. What's the battery voltage while cranking? And/or what happens if you try to jump start it from another car with the engine running fast? Jonathan
  3. What sort of ignition system? Do you have a multimeter (or did you test that feed some other way)? Jonathan
  4. Some sender resistance values are in the recent archives, but I think there at least two types of sender. Jonathan
  5. Dedicated earth off the unit or does it rely on a chassis contact somewhere? Is there a system or function reset available for the Stack unit? And... I've never had mine out, but we might as well get it over with... are there any mechanical bits, including the whole thing, that might be upside down? Jonathan PS:
  6. Thanks, Duncan. At that price you could offer a Club Bulk Buy with a reasonable rake-off for NtL. Something like £1 per washer + postage. Members would buy 1 or 2 and save on the £2.60 and a bag of 50 would generate a surplus of £50 - £7.50 = £42.50. Do they fit anywhere else on any known 7? Jonathan
  7. Thanks: someone's going to grateful for this one day. Jonathan
  8. What SM25T says about application; get down to metal and make a sausage roll of the stuff. I have lost two before doing it that way and none since. I think that some people use methods other than Sikaflex (or similar) alone in order to ease removal. I prefer nylon bolts for the rear wing, and I'd put in any list of build tips. Jonathan
  9. According to Shaun's list it depends on the chassis... Bob_r: If you get an answer that's a size of bolt you need to convert it to a size of key. Jonathan
  10. AFAIK that isn't in the Assembly Guide (Would you like a copy?) but it is in Shaun's bolt list (tabs at the bottom to select model). It's probably also in Charles' excellent collection of fastener packs: does anyone have the URL? Jonathan
  11. Yes, but what voltage do big "garage" jump starters deliver? My guess remains that it's not that high but they have enough internal oomph to supply a big current without dropping the voltage. I assume that the electronics can't handle the very high currents of a jump start battery, which is much higher than a charger or alternator output, so the issue is the current, not the voltage. The high current may damage the internal circuitry of a lithium battery, whereas the lead in a lead acid battery can take quite a beating, as there are no electronics to be damaged. but ... it's not the high current that's the issue, that would never go through the battery, it's the (possibly) high voltage from the jump starter which is the problem. Does anyone know of advice from the battery manufacturers or recovery organisations on jump-starting? Jonathan
  12. Why does the high current drawn by a starter when jump-starting have to go though the host battery? Jonathan
  13. In my K series I use a PVR 25, but I think the PVR 22 is cheaper. Discussion of fitting. Jonathan
  14. You can fill through the top by removing the cover plate, or if you have a cover plate with a filler aperture. Jonathan
  15. The next time you jack it up please could you tell us what happens when you turn each rear wheel, with it in and out of gear? Thanks Jonathan
  16. Duncan: Do you have the link to that seal, please? Should this type be replaced each time? I don't know any disadvantages of magnetic plugs but I don't think there's any evidence for beneficial effects for modern engines with frequent oil changes. Obviously there's the small hassle of lining the car up N-S when you tighten them. Jonathan
  17. That test doesn't work that way for all types of LSD. But I don't know what should happen with the BMW diff. Jonathan
  18. What's the voltage when cranking? That's what we need next. Jonathan
  19. ... however they are 185/60/14 - 3% difference in circumference so car will sit lower etc. Does this matter? Will I notice? What's the absolute change in radius? Jonathan
  20. Same comments as Paul, but was it cranking when it wouldn't start this time? (I'm thinking about ECUs that are fussy about low voltages.) Jonathan
  21. Do you use the DNS provided by the local ISP or something like OpenDNS? Jonathan
  22. I'm very happy with a Powervamp PVR 25, but I think a PVR 22 is cheaper. Recent discussion on fitting. Jonathan
  23. Old thread resurrection, but think relevant... Good decision, and gives the next member a much better chance to find the answer. Thanks Jonathan

    What key?
