I can't explain what's changed. The voltage at cranking is a bit low and might upset some ECUs, but starting isn't your problem. Can someone explain the issue with uisng a fan feed for the switched live feed to the alternator, please? Is this just for convenience in finding a wire? Would a direct feed from the battery be a worthwhile test to see if it makes any difference? Jonathan
The URL in that second line opens something different in Flickr from what you did in the other thread. From this one I can't open the image in a new window. What did you do that's different? Jonathan
From Andrew's thoughts and that wiggling it sounds as if something is a bit marginal. I'd disconnect, clean and reconnect all the relevant feeds and earths. Then I'd measure the voltage at rest, during cranking and at 3,000 rpm. You really don't want that random thing happening when you're away from base. Jonathan
No idea about how to make the repair, but a bit of lateral thinking on alternatives. How about fitting driving lights or badges in the apertures? Jonathan
I haven't got one of those and I always forget about them. It's a good candidate for a single cause. You can fiddle with it and the connections but I'd get that meter. Jonathan
This is the one I recommend but anything should help. This may be hard without one. While you're getting one I'd start with disconnecting, cleaning and reconnecting your battery connections. Where are you? Jonathan
I'd ask DVA for his advice. What do you use it for? Yes, they're standard items. (I was surprised how low the temperature was on the one that Rat Race fitted to mine.) Jonathan
As above + I'd check that the problem is in the switch before changing it or fettling. Do you have a multimeter? If not short the terminals on the switch and see if the lights come on. Check the mechanical action of the pedal on the switch. Note SM25T's comment about catching the spring. It's contractually bound to make a bid for freedom as soon as the switch is opened, and some are never seen again.Jonathan
The second of those is described here with the best workaround I've found so far. Shaun has told the software people. The first is probably due to the same root cause. Does the URL workaround show the missing pages? Jonathan
There's a recent similar thread about a French garage with a slope, but I can't remember how it was resolved, probably "buy a couple of planks". Let us know if you can't find it. Traditional minimum is a free-rolling Coke can: 66mm diameter. Common recommendation for road cars is ≥ 80mm. Jonathan
