  1. Do you offer 'net access on those planes yet? And have you had to scale up the power generation? Thanks Jonathan PS: For some reason your post reminded me of the Member who worked on ship's diesel engines that were so big that there was a staircase around the cylinder.
  2. I'd talk to Powerspeed directly and ask them what they can do to make it quieter. Jonathan
  3. You need to check the battery voltage when it happens to exclude lack of smoke. But that doesn't sound likely. No fuses blowing? I think that losing all of those circuits but not the horn (with all the fuses intact) could be due to bad earth(s). (The horn is usually an earth switched circuit so doesn't depend on other earths.) Start with wiggling, disconnecting and cleaning them. As Ian says + ECU earth. Jonathan
  4. Who fitted it? Powerspeed? I'd try and get it quietened by whoever did the work. No blame or legal stuff at this point, but at which stage was the intended sound level discussed and specified? Jonathan
  5. What Ian says. + What do you have that should work with the ignition off, and, if so, does that fail as well when this happens? Jonathan PS: Do you have a multimeter already?
  6. Yes. I'd guess that the EU standard/ requirement will remain unchanged until wireless charging is widespread. Jonathan
  7. Which gearbox? There's a known issue with the seal around the selector shaft. But the advice is split across multiple threads. Jonathan
  8. I carried an inverter for years! Mainly used for the laptop. Can't remember what's in which thread, but these folding adaptors are excellent for travelling: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41lhQzl-qvL._AC_UL115_.jpg Jonathan
  9. The rise and rise of USB as a charging standard continues: http://s7g3.scene7.com/is/image/ae235?%24p%24&layer=0&size=281,281&layer=1&size=281,281&src=ae235/18294_P This is neat as it avoids those heavy clumsy bricks. (But I don't know the comparative efficiency of the power conversion.) The X90 bus between London and Oxford now has something similar in the mains sockets. Jonathan
  10. If I understand what they said correctly, anything below 4k rpm and the battery is going down in power as its not supplying anything to the battery. Once above 4k rpm the alternator then springs into life and the car is running on that instead of just the battery. How are you planning to investigate... how about measuring battery voltage against engine speed both cold and warm? (Some thoughts about alternator problems and pulley size and quality of connections, but let's start with narrowing it down a bit.) Jonathan
  11. You can freely buy dichloromethane in the required amounts. Jonathan
  12. There must be a way of reprogramming I guess... I don't think it's been discussed specifically for a 160... what do the speedometer and sender look like? Jonathan PS: It's unusual for speedometers on road cars to underread.
  13. That's fine... I'd like a few more before I make the next order. Keep them coming. Jonathan
  14. I'm not seeing the bug any more... Jonathan
  15. It would be a shame to discover a problem on the first spring morning suitable for blatting... Yes. And I couldn't leave it unrun because I'd want to know it worked. Jonathan
  16. The point about changing the angle on torque wrenches has been made. If you're new to this (as I was) it's important to get some sense of feel for the different forces as well as using a torque wrench. I don't think most assemblers buy a low-range torque wrench, but if you do there's a recent discussion. Have you found the Club discounts at Halfords and others? I treated myself to all the tools I needed, with the exception of the engine hoist and the wrench and big socket for the rear hubs. There are some very generous Members out there... Apparently (!) it's also a good idea to buy a multimeter and get familiar with it. IMHO people waste a lot of time trying to fix electrical problems without one. Draper 60792 at Amazon. Jonathan
  17. I hadn't spotted that they now split it that way. I have a 2012 Guide that includes the R400 with the other models. Send me a Private Mail with your email address if you'd like a copy. (I'll check how the versions compare when I get home in a few days. Does that supplement include the schematic diagram of the full chassis loom?) Jonathan
  18. I think it probably is just the surprisingly high friction and the reduced leverage. How close are you to getting a road wheel on so you can play with it in a more familiar configuration? But I'd probably strip and reassemble, checking the points above. Jonathan
  19. New problem today, I think. The tops of the pages are sometimes not aligning, eg around the Search box. And I think I'm losing some bold text in Subject titles. If I reload the page it usually corrects. Safari on OS X 10.9 and 10.11. Jonathan
  20. Thanks, Private Mail sent. Jonathan
  21. Child seat, ISOFIX fittings, for 2y old. (No 7 angle.) Thanks Jonathan
  22. All-in cost for the hose would be £30. Given that a new one from CC is £22, I decided not to proceed. Just the information I was waiting for. But there have been lots of instances where local hose fettlers have saved the day, and we do seem to have a blind spot about them. Jonathan
  23. Just realised that I wrote was ambiguous: I meant the right expletives! There is a glossary somewhere on the site... Jonathan
  24. Standard advice: read up on the next section in advance so you can preorder the right ones? Jonathan PS: In a James Roberston Justice voice: "Where's the bleeding tee?".
