  1. Review of iOS apps, but run on an iPad rather than an iPhone for some reason. SPlnFFT came out best. Jonathan
  2. Does everyone know the motoring version? Jonathan
  3. OK, I can't get this in one. Before the MoT I would check: That series of tests above Lights that do work are equally bright on both sides Bad connectors on the wires at the bulb holder Bad contact between the bulb and the holder Swapping the bulbs between sides and seeing where the fault goes Seating of the relay Giving both switches a good wiggle and thump.Jonathan
  4. I don't think it's a fuse... Does the RH side flash correctly when no lights are on, when only the sidelights are on and when the headlamps are dipped? Jonathan
  5. Have you got an Assembly Guide? The modern version reads: 9 The rear braided hose can now be fitted. Thread the locknut onto the male union on one end of the hose then attach the braided hose to the three way union on the De Dion tube and tighten to 10 Nm. Lock into place using the locknut. The locknut supplied should not restrict the union from tightening fully. 10 Place a plain washer over the male union on the other end of the braided hose then pass the union forwards through the vertical aluminium panel, apply a further plain washer then the shakeproof washer and secure in place with the locknut provided. Finally, attach the rigid brake pipe from the transmission tunnel. NOTES (1) The rigid brake pipe may need slight realignment. Jonathan PS: If I were building mine again I'd use flexible rather than rigid pipe to the rear callipers.
  6. That's what I'd do. Good luck Jonathan
  7. Diagram from Alcester Racing 7s. Jonathan
  8. Straight out to Hertfordshire. But I'll send the warming up notes. Jonathan
  9. Mine was a rebuilt 1800 K, standard except for a few stronger bits, new cams: Cam Shield Miller's Running In Engine Oil Keep it over 2,000 rpm for first 20 minutes Running in for 500 miles: no slogging Service and change to ordinary oil at 500 miles Another 500 miles of running-in, no slogging, with gradual increase in maximum speed Recommended rolling road session after 1,000 milesSeems to have turned out fine. Jonathan
  10. I also haven't looked back since getting a half-hood. But let's try and sort pensioner's problem. Can you add a photo of the roll bar without the hood, and measure its vertical height? And lay the smaller hood on the larger and show us what that looks lke. Jonathan
  11. There seem to be several different approaches. I'll try and find my instructions from Rat Race. That included a special ingredient for the cams. But as there are several how will you decide? In this case I'd go for argument from authority and ask DVA. Jonathan
  12. Have you found the Forum Guide? You can either post photos on the site or link to them on an external server. Which would you prefer? Jonathan
  13. Welcome. Could you add a few photos of the hood and side screens showing the problem? What sort of roll bar or cage do you have? Jonathan
  14. ... support. :-) Jonathan PS: Those safety factors are interesting. And their size is the main reason I'd be most worried about other modes of failure.
  15. ... is a shatterproof plastic ruler. I always treat that as a challenge. And into how many pieces do plastic rulers break? It's worth destroying one just for the fun of finding out. Spaghetti* is cheaper. And YouTube not as satisfying. Jonathan * Uncooked.
  16. "1.5 times the diameter" is pretty widely used, it's just a reasonably safe rule of thumb. Biggest risk of inadequate penetration of nuts is probably some variety of thread stripping when the first bit of thread is damaged and that hasn't been recognised. For that failure mode 1.5 threads protruding probably serves the same purpose. Jonathan PS: Two pages and no personal derogatory jokes? :-)
  17. 2.5" in this thread, too. But if they're not long enough for your brackets they're not long enough. Jonathan PS: Have you got still a bit to go there on the gap between the bottom of the head and the washer... ?
  18. How many turns would you have on the outside of the nut? Jonathan
  19. Have you found the trick of cutting a hole from the cockpit through the tunnel side? Some people like that way of improving access to the filler (drainer) hole. (I'm happy without it.) Jonathan
  20. What Ian says, and you'll save a lot of time by warming the oil first. Jonathan
  21. 0.5" UNF x 2.5" according to a 1998 Assembly Guide. Jonathan (Crossed with Charles')
