  1. Oh yes, lots of apps and lots of threads. Including this one, with my suggestion that SPLnFFT is worth trying. Jonathan
  2. I will probably try and cut the edges of a rubber blanking grommet to reduce bulge and see how that goes. Sounds right to me. Are you thinking of slicing into the groove on two opposing sides? Jonathan
  3. Like the method. See also shock absorbers! :-) Jonathan
  4. Do gps gadgets operate ok directly behind a glass screen with heater elements in, don't want to blow 75 large and then find it doesn't. What are you considering? Are you concerned about them getting a strong enough signal? The other worry is about devices such as ordinary tablets and smart 'phones and devices designed for use inside cars not being waterproof without additional cases. (That's why I want to mount* my iPhone below the dash.) Jonathan * I know, I know. ;-)
  5. Nigel: please could you add some some photos comparing old and new? I'm fairly sure it is illegal to have a white reflector on the back of a vehicle which is why we have yellow registration plates on the back. I see what you mean from the number plates but I've never found any legislation or case law on this. It might appear in at least two forms: specific stuff about reflective materials or something about reflective materials being considered as lighting. Anything definitive, anybody? Jonathan
  6. Would an app that measures sound level on a 'phone or tablet be of any help to you? Jonathan
  7. Haven't seen it before. Ordered. Thanks Jonathan
  8. A kneeling chair to... postures new. It's in TN20 (near Tunbridge Wells), but can be got to Maidstone Area, or North Kent, Kentish Weald or East Sussex Club meets. And needs to go to Garsington, OX44 9DB. Thanks in advance Jonathan
  9. ... and have toyed with the idea of reflective tape on the bar. i've thought a lot about increasing the chances of being seen on bikes and the Vespa. And created some Xmas trees accordingly. Never worried about the 7. That's an excellent idea, particularly if you can do enough of the bar to show the shape of the car. IMHO one of the problems with point lights, however bright, is that they can be mistaken for other sorts of lights such as street clutter. Jonathan
  10. Andy... you do mean for a 7, not a human powered vehicle? What's the current distance between the magnet and the sensor? Yes, there are lots of apps that display speed measured by GPS, many of them free. Definitely worth playing with. The position and mount are probably more important than the app. (I'm still looking for a good solution for fitting an iPhone just below the bottom rail of the dash, but that's probably a bit low for the main speed indicator.) (On most of our bikes I use the cheapest wireless Cateye that's available, but the last one wasn't quite the cheapest as we wanted bigger numerals on the display.) Jonathan
  11. I think there'll be a lot of interest in this. Tried to put a photo on but cannot find how to. Do you want to upload the photos to this site, or put them on a server somewhere and link to them? Ian B's excellent Forum Guide. Jonathan
  12. There are three instrument repairers with whose work Members have been happy. One of them is a one-man operation and would be my first choice: have a look in the archives and let us know if you can't find his details there. Jonathan
  13. Checked a few regulations: additional lights aren't inspected in the MoT procedure and I can't see anything about positions in other documents. HID have specific regulations and there are some hints that LEDs might but I've never seen them. Previous discussions of LED DRLs. Jonathan
  14. There was a related discussion but IIRC it was about the permitted position of headlights. I don't think that additional lights woud be restricted. Jonathan PS: Does speed contribute much to being missed?
  15. There are several reports in the archives of nibbling and flap-wheeling and Dremelling. Most seem happy but say it takes a long time to get right. Jonathan
  16. Yes, I suggested a hose in the other thread. (Tee hee.) Jonathan PS: That's the problem with getting old. Better than the alternative. No die though... There must be a pun in there somewhere... possibly including a mortai coil. :-)
  17. if you can't find a rigid adaptor how about a custom hose with the right size ends? Jonathan
  18. Not too bothered about the nylon locking bit, but I'd want to ensure there was enough thread engagement in the nut using the traditional rules of thumb. I'm not an expert at cutting down bolts, but I run a nut up to the head end of the thread first and then bring that down and off after cutting to try and improve the thread where it's cut. Never studied if it makes a significant difference. Jonathan
  19. Haven't done it myself (yet) and can't remember if there's a trick, but there's a recent post on the subject. Let us know if you can't find it. Jonathan
  20. Welcome. Where are you? Lots of Guides here.http://www.lotus7.club/guides I don't have an emailable Assembly Guide for the Vauxhall engined models but if you send me a Private Mail with your email address I'll send you the closest I can find. Here's a suggested service schedule. Would you be interested in a "Get to Know Your 7" session? Jonathan
  21. I'm confused: is the bolt now engaging on the threaded boss or only on the nut? Jonathan
  22. I currently have a wooden block bolted to the throttle pedal to put the surface where I want it. Would anyone be kind enough to cut and shut another to match, please? Thanks Jonathan
  23. Any more before I get the quote for shipping the next batch from China? Thanks Jonathan
