  1. There's lots of advice in the archives but I don't know a Guide or single source. What type of rear axle? Jonathan
  2. Start here... ... but do you mean a Watt's linkage or a radius arm? Let me know if you'd like a copy of the Assembly Guide. Jonathan
  3. I will be selling these soon and will be able to offer all the advice needed. The £199.00 Varley easily starts my high compression Busa when in the past other makes did not even after ramping up the CCA relative to your usual battery. Good luck, Simon: I think that many (by our standards) owners are close to taking the plunge. Are you thinking about appropriate chargers and suitable lightweight cages? Jonathan PS: I always get nostalgic when I hear about Varley. When electronic flash started to become feasible and affordable (around 1973 for me) their batteries were way ahead of anything else.
  4. I don't think there are usually transferable paint codes for factory colours. Have a look at this thread. What are you going to paint? If there's a professional painter I'd ask them to match to something. Jonathan
  5. ... but surely pretty much a charger is a charger? It's a novel use in a niche market so you'd expect some... overcharging. But I recently bought a CTEK MSX 5.0 for about £58. That's rated at 5A for 110Ah batteries. The Lithium XS costs £100 for 5A and 120Ah. I'd take a lot of convincing that the difference is more than the programs. So within this category: Yes. Jonathan
  6. Most are fixed by a couple of self-tapping screws. Does it have ears at the rear that will lie against the bulkhead? Jonathan
  7. Thanks... I knew this was going to be worthwhile! :-) Jonathan
  8. Interesting area. Any public understanding/ outreach involved... or that you'd like to do personally? Jonathan
  9. First, is there a switch to turn on the instrument lights or am I looking at an electrical problem? Not usually. Do any of the instrument lights come on with the sidelights? Do you have a multimeter already? Second, how does one reset the trip odometer? Look for a button on the bottom rail of the dash near the steering column. ... is an owners and shop manual available for the early Crossflow live-axle cars? Send me a Private Mail with your email address and I'll let you have what I've got. Jonathan PS: Could you add a photo of the dash and a close-up of the speedometer?
  10. Congratulations to you and the magnificent Paul. This week I sent my injectors off for ASNU cleaning and got them back 2 days later. The result - the suspect faulty injector was actually in full health while the other 3 were 5% down on flow rate! All are within 1% of each other now. I don't understand that bit... why do they now match? Jonathan PS: After some extensive Googling we manage to find a method of cracking the code which involved copying the map file to hard drive, reading the file with a hexadecimal application, and then converting 2 bits of coding from hexadecimal to decimal to give us the 4 digit PIN Are the FBI recruiting... :-)
  11. That's great. What's her subject? Jonathan
  12. Battery, £165, 2Kg. CTEK Lithium XS charger, £100. I don't think there's enough accumulated experience yet to say that any make or model is better than any other for our purposes. Please go for it, and I look forward to hearing about your experiences Jonathan
  13. Same as this problem: initial slack, then nice and firm? Any change when they are pumped repeatedly? How old is the fluid? When were they last bled? How's the handbrake?Jonathan
  14. Dashboard bulbs from Auto Bulbs Direct, including 286 and 509 LEDs. 10% Club discount. Jonathan
  15. Here you go. Good luck Jonathan
  16. Two companies have recommendations of some sort in the archives: Speedy Cables, which is the same company as Caerbont Automotive Instruments who now make Smiths equipment and supply Caterham. [Admin correction: These two companies work from the same address but are not the same.] JDO (John Ostick)I haven't used either of them, and I couldn't find any Club discounts. Jonathan (Edited on 12 April 2016 following Charles' observation.)
  17. 1965 Rover prototype, £80,000 or WHY. Jonathan
  18. Which colours would you like, Brian? Jonathan
  19. What year? Could be 5/16" UNF or 7/16" UNF. I don't know if there are any metric holes out there. Bolt & Nut app. Jonathan
  20. If you can't find one there are three recommended instrument repairers who could probably supply something. Jonathan
  21. If we got those technical wikis going perhaps they could use them... ;-) Jonathan
  22. Hidden button, missing cable? Jonathan
  23. Thanks Jonathan PS: It reminded me of a story I was brought up on: pistons and cylinder bores being measured and matched to each other because it was easier and cheaper than accurate manufacturing. But I've never checked the history...
  24. Where is the paint dot on the sidewall in relation to the valve ? Most people including most tyre fitters, dont realise that this corresponds to the heavy spot on the tyre. Always interesting hearing from experts. Is each tyre checked at the factory and the spot applied, or is it known where it will be from the design? Thanks Jonathan
