  1. Here is the best result I don't understand these things but those curves look very smooth to me compared to others. Was there an intended or inevitable compromise on something like maximum power to achieve that? Thanks Jonathan
  2. Unless there is something unusual about your engine I would ignore the old pattern and modify the new one in the same way as everyone else. Jonathan
  3. Please can you document what you discover and put it somewhere on the web site: I'm sure it will help others. Thanks Jonathan
  4. Have you got a picture of that sort of bolt? What's your current ground clearance under the sump (in mm or fractions of a Coke can) and do you ever ground? Jonathan
  5. Think you only need a couple of strips as you're looking to give a visual indication that there's something there rather than showing the whole width of the car or the rollbar if that makes sense. It might. You need to get an attention-grabbing image into the threat's mind (as opposed to simply a lot of light into their eyes). So looking big and either like a car or like something strange could work in theory. I recently posted some photos of the 3M tape that looks black but reflects moderately, but I can't find them. Jonathan
  6. Anyone prepared to lend their tool (homemade or otherwise) through the new Register? Thanks Jonathan
  7. Not sure if relevant, but I did wonder whether the catalytic converter might have been damaged on the 1st start as it got very hot (glowing red) due to unburnt fuel igniting... How common is that in a road car? I thought that the references to afterburners were metaphorical, even in a 420R... :-) What Ian says. Have you still got the liquid? Pass it through filter paper and then test samples to see if they dissolve in water or in petrol. Test if it ignites or burns. Usual precautions, especially about where you do this bit.Jonathan
  8. Lateral play on pedals: Clutch 3mm Brake 2mm Throttle 2mm.I've never noticed it while driving. Jonathan PS: I occasionally wonder if there would be a market for a posh fully adjustable in all directions set of pedals.
  9. I wouldn't give up hope until I'd talked to both of the speedometer specialists. You could fit a bike speedometer to a wheel if you'd prefer that to a satnav device. Jonathan
  10. Lots on this in the archives, including this thread. Jonathan
  11. Tomiam: Those links have expired. What would you recommend to restore them? ;-) Thanks Jonathan
  12. Apparently shin/ lower leg injuries can happen in an accident as legs flail and hit the chassis on the top of the tunnel, so some pipe lagging or proper impact foam here could be easy. Common or garden pipe lagging takes very little energy to compress. It might just prevent minor nicks or abrasions but no more. How good is "impact foam" or similar? Thanks Jonathan
  13. Lots in the archives on preferred protective "eyewear". I don't use anything in the 7 (windscreen and low head position) but on BC recommendations bought some for cycling: Bolle something or other for about £7 to £9. Jonathan
  14. Are you thinking of having a windscreen? State of mind. Overwhelms everything else. Driving instruction. Tight harnesses, possibly 6 point, but at least 4 point. Hearing protection.Jonathan
  15. I couldn't get enough fore and aft (not L to R) movement by bending. Even with a 4" by 2". Jonathan
  16. If this is the problem, it's presumably just a case of replacing the switch? You could try and clean and spray magic stuff on the contacts, but probably "Yes". Jonathan
  17. I had the same problem left-right and the throttle pedal was also too low after taking the usual adjustments to the limit. I fitted a personalised custom block* on top and towards the centreline to sort it out in both planes. I've had a couple of kind offers to cut and shut the throttle pedal now I know the position I want. Jonathan * Alright then, a piece of oak stair rail.
  18. I'm sure they could fix it but is it the problem with the reach of the nose of the rivetting tool? Posts #7 to #11? Jonathan
  19. There's a known problem with the hazard warning light switch that can sometimes be resolved by cycling it just as you have done with the indicator switch. But I can't remember it damaging the module. Might be worth exploring. Trying to think of a cause of the lights staying on all the time other than a problem in the module or downstream. Has it happened on both sides, and does only one side stay on? While we're waiting for the experts: What's the battery voltage with the engine not running and at 3,000 rpm? Jonathan
  20. I reconnected the shift light box and now the immobiliser works again and the engine starts. That should help a lot with the diagnosis. How many wires are there to that box and do you have a wiring diagram for it that we could have a look at? (I'm still suspecting a missing earth.) Jonathan
  21. Are those plates available? Thanks Jonathan
  22. Reasonable explanation, and sounds like very poor quality control. It seems unlikely that sort of fault would only affect one windscreen... Hope they fix it, and that you decide it's worth pursuing... Jonathan
