  1. Sorry, I'm lost. Jonathan PS: Any photos of that spares box, please?
  2. Welcome back. Glad it worked. I'd prefer to use a conditioning charger on a deeply discharged battery. Had you tried that already? It might be a good idea to test the resuscitated batteries before they fail on the road. Have you measured the voltage during cranking? Jonathan (Mine's a Vespa 125) PS: She's called "Tayna". :-)

Is the following correct for the wheel test, please? If the wheels turn the same way you know it's an LSD. If they don't you don't know what it is. Can it be refined by doing anything with the brakes and/ or prop shaft? Thanks Jonathan
  4. PS: When you refit the runners you'll find that you have to hold the bolts still while you tighten the nuts. Some weld, some use a flat screwdriver to wedge the head, and some cut a slot in the threaded end and stop it turning with a screwdriver. Jonathan
  5. Mine are M8 x 25mm into Nyloc nuts. In general it isn't wise to replace high tensile steel fasteners with stainless unless you understand their different properties. Most favoured supplier is probably Namrick (or eBay!). With the amount of work you're doing it's probably worth buying a Mixed Pack with a selection of sizes for stock. There's a Guide to the Bolt List and Fastener Packs. Jonathan
  6. If it looks undamaged from below I'd unbolt it and see what happens. Mind you, if it looked damaged I'd do the same... Jonathan
  7. Fancy an Elvis duet, Ian? ;-) Jonathan
  8. Can we have a view from below, please? Jonathan
  9. Dear Experts I'll show my ignorance. I thought there was a characteristic chatter from unhappy CRBs that went away when you pressed the pedal lightly without disengaging the clutch. Is that just wrong? Thanks Jonathan
  10. Neat. Did you close the top end of the sleeve to prevent water entry? Jonathan
  11. Have you searched the archives? Several people have discussed alternative materials and might be able to help, and SM25T had a template for at least one of them... Jonathan

Did you try the turning one wheel by hand trick? Jonathan
  13. I'd start with isopropyl alcohol before breaking out anything fiercer. Brake cleaner comes in various formulations and some of them might damage paint and tyres, or just possibly, the top layer on wheels. Jonathan
  14. That would be... Santa Pod? :-) Jonathan
  15. If you can't find the right one you could make or get a braided hose with the right fitting on each end. There was a discussion of something similar recently. It might even reduce the vibration suffered by the sender. Jonathan PS: Which engine?

Check that there's a wire coming from the sensor in the gearbox (rather than a wire from a wheel or a mechanical cable coming from the gearbox). For the electronic drive from the gearbox: Have a good look and play with the speedo sensor at the gearbox and the wiring. There's a wiring fix and a Workshop Notice (available from JV). (But I thought that the symptoms were failure and fuse blowing rather than dropping out.)For the electronic drive from near a wheel: There's great advice from JV on getting the clearance right. Same point as ScottR400D's.Jonathan
  17. Welcome. No idea. Where are you? Jonathan PS: "It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so."
  18. ... and will be hoping to get a comparison at Cadwell with and without at same time Any chance of another comparison with a 'phone across those changes? I'll have to check but I can probably find another £2.99. Jonathan
  19. I wish that someone would do a comparison specifically for 7 purposes of dedicated sound meters with smart 'phones. The studies are pretty impressive: So How Accurate Are These Smartphone Sound Measurement Apps?" "30 iPad Sound Measurement Apps Reviewed"If I put up the £2.99 for SPLnFFT would you consider trying it back-to-back with the dedicated meter? Thanks Jonathan
  20. Assuming that your cleaning and spraying has removed the possibility of a short to earth between the two terminals... Remove the sender from the block and repeat the sequence in Post #2 and check that the behaviour is the same. And after that I can see two diagnostic strategies Test how the resistance of the disconnected sender varies as you change the pressure through 20psi... could be done in another engine or with a pump (eg a foot pump for tyres) if you can get a seal. I don't know the nominal resistance values but it should be either obviously conducting or not. Try another sender. (Just as you suspected.)Jonathan
  21. That switch type has two terminals, but I don't know if the body is connected to one side of the switch and can make the circuit to earth. One terminal should be connected to the gauge. What is connected to the other... what colour of wire and can you see where it goes? Jonathan
  22. ... I use a red LED as the low pressure warning light. But with exactly the same set-up it was working correctly before the wash and brush up? Jonathan
  23. Do you think it is fully bright? With the ignition on and the engine not running confirm that the light is now on. Ignition off. Disconnect at the sender end the lead that runs from the sender to the gauge. Ignition on and engine not running: what happens to the light? After that we can move to the multimeter... Jonathan Edited for added safety.
