  1. Thanks, Paul: I have ****** but thought I might be out of date. (I once had a stand-up argument with the Hospital's Fire Officer about types of extinguishers.) CORRECTED: I have AFFF in the cars and garage, and powder in the house. Jonathan PS: Everyone got that point about not opening bonnets etc when you don't know what's behind them? Also applies to doors in buildings. But how do you test them... ?
  2. I want to see them burn! Jonathan PS: "Who you gonna believe, me or your own eyes?" :-)
  3. I'm puzzled too. I'm sure we're close to swapping boiling points, flash points and flame points. But in the spirit of antiantiempiricism... who has a cine camera and a spare hour? :-) Jonathan PS: What sort of brake fluid was that, The_ASH, please? PPS: Cine camera? CINE CAMERA? You only need a 'phone nowadays, but I always forget.
  4. What sound are you describing, please? Thanks Jonathan
  5. Our favourite lightweight waterproof jackets are Berghaus Gore-Tex Paclites. All the family have them, they're heavily used for walking because they are so light, and they work well in the 7 because they have no bulk. But very little insulating value. For some reason the price varies a lot. Beyond that it's the flying jacket. Jonathan
  6. What colours are the existing wires on the car? That might make it easy with the help of the "standard" wiring colours. But if not: Have you got the wiring diagram for your 7? If not I can probably send you one. Have you got a multimeter?Jonathan
  7. Interesting. Not convinced by water wetter. Nearly 100% water should give you better heat transfer than 50% water and ethylene glycol, but beware the lower boiling point. And higher freezing point, which is why I've heard that the racers drain whenever the car is put away. Jonathan PS: I'd be happy to use deionised water rather than distilled if it saved some money. What does the manufacturer of the water wetter say on that? And I'm not convinced that either is better than most varieties of tap water.
  8. Similar thoughts to John's, and I'd add the increased viscosity as a plausible factor. I was thinking of draining out the Evans Coolant and going back to a standard 50/50 water/coolant mix to see if that would reduce the temps as you indicated. After all that I spent, what's another $100 That's exactly the sort of experiment that's needed. I'm sorry if it has to be on the back of your problems, but I look forward to the results, and thanks. Jonathan
  9. UK* dealers and refillers... Wallingford? Jonathan * Once you've fought the website into submission.
  10. There's a vast amount on this in the archives, and it would be great if someone could summarise it as a Guide. It might need two: one for racing and one not. Same thought as Cookie Monster: what's the problem with transverse mounting in front of the passenger seat with the lowered floors? Jonathan
  11. What coolant is in now? Did you ever establish the target temperatures from Cosworth or elsewhere? Are those temperatures at roughly the same ambient temperature? Jonathan
  12. Both now gone. Good to meet you both. Please don't forget the donations. :-) Jonathan
  13. Did the spring make a bid for freedom? Jonathan
  14. Green: Accessories fused by the ignition switch. "Standard" wiring colours. These can be daisychained from instrument to instrument. Ditto earths. So check where they're going and that everything else works afterwards. Jonathan
  15. Good progress. I think you now need to eliminate a fault in one side of the switch itself. You could do that in any of the following ways: A different switch. Could be just an on-off switch, one side at a time. Hot wiring, one side at a time, the input and output of the switch with the ignition on, by touching the leads together (as in the movies). If you're feeling nervous about doing that "live" then ignition off, join input to output, ignition on. Again one side at a time.Jonathan
  16. tim: I think that many of us might be put off doing the mechanical gauge conversion by finding the correctly threaded bits etc. (Does it differ between 7s?) Do you offer it as a single order with a bit of handholding? Thanks Jonathan
  17. Glad it's fixed. Please could you describe the orientation or add a photo that might explain why that happened? Thanks Jonathan
  18. ... would the small Summit mirror be an improvement on the passenger's door-mounted mirror if fitted to the top left of the screen? - I've never been ble to adjust the door mirror to give a decent view. Just been out to play with that position with another mirror. It would be OK for a view back along the interior without a passenger or past a passenger's head. But to see more L of that are you thinking of looking through the LH door plastic or over the top of the door? If the former and with my head height the mirror would have to come down the screen a fair bit. Jonathan PS: But what's the problem with the door mirror? Mine's in the factory position and I adjust it to show a sliver of wing along the bottom and a tad of boot cover to the R.
  19. The system stayed pressurised before I started bleeding... Was that with the cap that came with the Sealey kit and the added pressure from the kit still connected, and the loss of pressure needing two pumps with the usual cap and no added pressure? Which way are your nipples pointing? Getting this wrong can create air traps. I imagine that could happen with a bias valve but I don't have any experience. Jonathan PS: I use a tube with a one-way valve from the nipple and a positive pressure system.
  20. 34Nm in Shaun's Bolt List and the 2016 Assembly Guide. Jonathan
  21. Both now allocated. Thanks x2. Barkalarr: You're now first reserve on both if they fall through. Jonathan
