  1. Are you already familiar with DVA's thoughts and options: K Series Upgrades?Jonathan
  2. Someone wrote this up a few months ago. IIRC it was quite simple. But there was also a discussion of appropriate seal thickness, but that shouldn't affect you if you reuse the one you have. ... anyone know if the glass Caterham sell for £95 is laminated ? ... can't imagine it's anything else. Jonathan
  3. "No, it fitted first time!" ;-) Jonathan
  4. Did it have to be skimmed? Jonathan
  5. If you don't get an answer there's a thread somewhere with a DIY solution from a non-automotive source. You could also try a motor parts shop. Jonathan
  6. Could you add the voltage at 3,000 rpm and the minimum during cranking? Jonathan
  7. Well done. At this point I remembered I had a Machine Mart oil syringe I used on my Subaru and thought I'd give it a go. From the now completely open boot, plug out, fed the tube in which seemed to hit the diff internals and go down then hit the bottom of the casing. Three goes and 950ml of oil out. I did this whilst the oil was cold which I think helped. It's usually recommended to do this hot, because the reduced viscosity gives higher flow for a given suck. Why did you choose cold? Jonathan PS: It's a lot easier to measure changes in noise objectively nowadays because of apps on smart 'phones.
  8. They sound amazing... must persuade my current garage powerpack that it's finally time to meet its maker. But that reminds me of my blind spot concerning lithium batteries for 7s. I should have included that option in the advice above in post #16. There's a recent thread about them: let me know if you can't find it. Jonathan
  9. Alternatives and experiences. Jonathan
  10. Refitting the gearbox or the whole thing? Do you have a balance bar? Jonathan
  11. You need to do those voltage readings to tell us about the condition of the battery and the charging system, especially with the previous erratic readings and the external appearance of the battery. But what happens during those problematic attempts to start: does it turn over at all, and if it does does it seem as fast as usual? Jonathan
  12. Powervamp are now recommending the ClubSport NP. That's a slightly different model but I'd expect it to be fine. NB: You might need the appropriate posts to match your leads. They can supply those. They sell an appropriate cage.Jonathan
  13. It doesn't have to be a Banner. My recommendation for most general purpose 7s is a Powervamp, but they recently changed the models. I'll check and post. This might need changing or fettling the cage/ strap and changing some leads. Jonathan PS: It's a really good idea to check the charging bits are working correctly before installing the new battery.
  14. Thanks for the saga. Do we know anyone in the Triumph sports car world to share experiences and concerns? Jonathan
  15. What sort of battery? Does it need topping up? Best domestic test of oomph is that minimum voltage during cranking. Jonathan
  16. You need a conditioning charger, not a traditional trickle charger. I think that most 7 owners seem to be using CTEK products but I've also been happy with other makes. Models vary with how big a battery they will manage. Do you want to be able to use it on bigger batteries than the 7's? I think that not requiring the bonnet to be removed is a good idea. Do you have a power socket already? Jonathan
  17. Recommended multimeter: and I'd treat myself to an additional set of leads with croc clips. Jonathan

Which dash do you have? There's another diagram in the July 2010 "Sigma" Assembly Guide that has the Instruments at "B" and Side/ Tail Lights at "F" for RHS and "G" for LHS. Jonathan

There was a recent thread that revolved around an unusual arrangement. But what choice have you now got other than testing all the fuses? Any thoughts why two circuits should have failed at the same time? Any work done on it recently? Jonathan
  20. Have you chosen the multimeter? And what a great chance to acquire one of those amazing lithium jump-starters! Jonathan
  21. Any hint of clicking when you try to crank? Any funny behaviour from the ignition warning light? What's the battery voltage at rest, during cranking and at 3,000 rpm? Disconnect, inspect, wiggle, clean and refit all the relevant cables, including the big ones at the battery, all at the alternator, all at the starter and the earths. Repeat 3.Jonathan

What I think is the right handbook says ""working from the top down" rather than L/R. It has Instruments at "C", R/H Side/Tail Light at "G" (7.5A) and L/H Side Tail Unit at "H" (5A). But to find the right end to count from it might be easiest to pull the end ones: "A" should be Brake Lights. Jonathan
  23. Bonjour et bienvenue. I think that you will get a better response if you ask in the TechTalk forum rather than here in the Blog section. Jonathan PS: Where are you?
  24. It's up to you what colour you'd like... but i'd have them all the same. You can pull one (or all) of the bulbs to check the type and power, and they are available from the usual places such as SVC and CBS and specialist bulb sellers. Someone found a source of LED lamps a few months ago... should be in the archives. Let us know if you can't find it. Jonathan
