  1. I'd never heard of them... and often walk through Berinsfield from home! Thanks Jonathan
  2. As above + Any chance of having it tested before the day? Most scrutineers will do this. Smart 'phone sound level apps might let you do comparisons remotely.Jonathan
  3. I have scoured the archives and am proper confused. Yes, I can understand that. Did you find the thread that was specifically triggered by the withdrawal of A021Rs? (I immediately bought a set to avoid this problem.) Jonathan
  4. Bienvenue. I'll start with James Whiting in Ashford, Middlesex: highly trusted long time Caterham expert and enthusiast. But how can we encourage you to change the oil yourself? Jonathan (A bit north of you in Garsington)
  5. Thanks. I just wish there were some studies... Jonathan
  6. Ive always ran my R300 on V-power (it's the closest petrol garage for a starters). What's the deal with a lack of recommendation for this fuel? I have read it a few times now but no explanation. I don't understand... lack of recommendation by whom? Jonathan
  7. This allows higher octane fuel to be compressed into a smaller space so when it does ignite it will have a bigger bang due to a higher fuel concentration. In theory this will produce more power and result in better consumption and more power. At a given compression ratio I don't think that happens. (But higher octane fuel does allow a higher compression ratio.) (There's a separate question of different available energy from a given mass of fuel for fuels of different composition.) Jonathan
  8. It made me check that it was for one! Jonathan
  9. Vintage Tyres quote weights: ZZR, ZZS. Jonathan
  10. I don't mind asking the factory but reading the above Griffchris has already done so and they said they didn't know but then that it was E12 which doesn't fit as well as EP12 in Griffchris' or my experience. Doh! Sorry Jonathan
  11. Thanks for the update. You have to be very careful; the heads don't fit any socket well, and I have both types. Torx + is nearest but still a little loose. The original bolts are of very poor quality, you can quite easily file or drill them. Poor show Caterham. They're stamped 10.9 but I doubt they actually are. Do you fancy asking the factory about the correct tool? Or asking the official Club liaison to do that? Jonathan
  12. Code for "Platinum Silver" and suggestion for "Titanium". Talk to TSK. Suggestion that it came from Mercedes.Jonathan PS: I don't think I've ever seen similar questions resolved simply by finding a code or source as opposed to the right painter. Good luck.
  13. Staging post available halfway in Garsington, 10 min from M40 J8/8A. Jonathan
  14. Thought it was going to be about slowing a competitor's! Chopper circuit, possibly using thyristors? (Is there a much more modern way of doing the same thing?) Jonathan
  15. I'd start with Classic Silicone Hoses. (Members seem happy with all three of the big suppliers of silicone hoses and there's a discount with one of them.) Jonathan
  16. Let's try and separate possible immobiliser problems from possible battery problems. What sort of immobiliser? I can never remember which 7s have which type, add a photo if you don't know what it is. Does it have a battery in the fob? Do you have the instructions for resetting?... What type of battery?} Any master switches? What's the battery voltage with everything off? When you try to crank does anything happen? Any sounds, and does the battery voltage drop? If there's any doubt about whether there's enough smoke in the battery you could jump it with fat leads and good contacts to another car with the engine running at 3,000 rpm and see if that makes any difference.Jonathan PS: "... flat as the proverbial witche's..." ... I've never heard that before, unlike "dry". But I see that you're not alone... I wonder how recent it is.
  17. Don't have a tester but will see what I can borrow. I think you'll save yourself a lot of time if you buy a multimeter. Current recommendation. Do you have a wiring diagram for your 7? Common wiring colours. Jonathan
  18. There's a Club discount with Hamilton Classic. Jonathan
  19. And then there was Tom Gaval's saga: 1, 2, 3. Jonathan
  20. How about writing this up as a Technical Guide? Jonathan
  21. I had something similar on the R1 at Oulten Park last year. Track day had to be abandoned. Eventually traced it to be a couple of snots of silicone sealant in the fuel tank pick up, restricting flow to the pump. I replaced the fuel filter, but this didn't cure it as the snots were in the pick up. Cured by blowing back through the fuel line, then cleaning out the tank. Was the problem specific to starting with that? Jonathan
  22. Thanks... but the usual test is to remove the cap while the engine is running and suffering. Immediate improvement gives the diagnosis. Jonathan
  23. Just the ones to the stanchions. Found the wires in advance? Some tricks in the archives for getting the seal to lie nicely on the body. Some recent experiences of the glass being loose in the frame: have a good play before it's fitted. Jonathan
