    That's like the minimum equipment needed for touring: a 'phone and a credit card. This approach also comes up in the HPV world. And IIRC with the McLaren F1 except that the 'phone to the factory and support helicopter was built in.     Thanks. I suppose I really meant to ask how much shimming you want to add. If it's more than c 1mm I'd consider a strip of aluminum covered by the tape rather than asking the tape to do all the compressing. Jonathan

    If by chance the signal voltage was too high at all points on the calibration you could do it by passive resistance, but if not it would need something like an op-amp circuit. It's possible that it's a standard design but I wouldn't know. Cost would be a few pounds. Physically it's going to be matchbox sized with a signal pair in and out and power in. Jonathan

    Had to replace one daughter's much loved and then stolen commuting tourer with a road Pinnacle. Followed by a fair bit of work to add the mudguards, rack and child seat. Other daughter rides an Horizon across London to work day and night, all seasons. My wife's 25y old Horizon is now marginal for replacement. But the range is a problem... needs drop bars, modern changers and I'd prefer a steel frame... suggestions welcome. I found an Ultra Galaxy with a 45% discount! Jonathan

    There are smart 'phone apps which claim to analyse *vibrations. That should make it possible to compare engines etc, even remotely.
