  1. It's really complicated, but for this purpose resistance to flow might be roughly proportional to length and inversely proportional to fourth power of radius. Jonathan
  2. I like changing only one thing at a time, and think the proposal might be logical. Can you add a sketch of the circuit? Jonathan
  3. Test reply. Edited: worked fine. Jonathan
  4. Have you tried logging out and in again? Jonathan
  5. The Standard axle came from the Companion. http://www.britsportofseattle.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/DSC00140.JPG I don't know who made them. Jonathan
  6. Background reading! Which ECU would you like to end up with? Jonathan
  7. Have we read this before, or was that another one that was similar? What was the indicated water and oil temperature when the fan seemed to have been on for too long? It's going to be a bit hard to diagnose unless you can replicate the suspicious behaviour. When's the next track session? How about buying a new fan sensor/switch ready to swap? Jonathan
  8. Where are the two sensors? I'd start by: Rerunning the experiment. Looking at the sensor/ switch, wiring and connections that control the fan: is the wiring intact and can you make it come on by wiggling? Confirming that the indicated water temperature on the gauge still responds normally as it warms up.Jonathan
  9. Coulter says the Standard axle wasn't changed in the revisions for the 1962 Motor Show. And then there was a supply route through Caterham Cars to Lotus after Standard stopped using them. Doesn't say when the reinforcing plate was introduced. The Ford Escort axle then came in with the S3. Weale agrees, and adds that the reinforcing was developed by Caterham and added in 1967. Jonathan
  10. I've sent Neil the late generic K-series de Dion Assembly Guide. I agree that there don't seem to have been any changes. Jonathan
  11. Road only, or some use on track? How important is grip in the wet? Jonathan
  12. Does it use batteries based on lithium? There are some very favourable reports of those in the archives. Jonathan PS: I think the convergence of USB smart 'phone battery backup/ rechargers and car jump starters is amazing, unforeseen and hilarious.
  13. The lack of email notifications was due to an automated job not running. NDP are investigating but I've asked them to delete the queue before restarting the job as there are 10k+ waiting to go and that might cause some issues! That sounds smart. Thanks Jonathan
  14. What sort of effort and expense would be involved in getting some final drives that gave the same overall gearing as the overdriven 5th gear with the 1:1 6th? (Other than the metal polish!) Jonathan
  15. Yes, they should all be in place. Have you decided which harness you'd like? Do you want to fit a crotch strap as well as a four point harness? You can get the straps made to tighten either way. (I prefer my lap straps to pull away from the buckle.) The Assembly Guide has the instructions: do you have one already? If not please send me a Private Message with your email address. Jonathan
  16. I'm getting some emails today from followed threads... but they are old. This could be interesting... Jonathan

    New arrival!

    Congratulations to all involved. Jonathan
  18. I wouldn't run it until you know what's happening. The experts should be along soon. Which engine and dry sump system? Jonathan
  19. It shouldn't be too hard to find an upholsterer to cover with a suede or leather material. Same thought. I'd talk to Oxted. (Well actually I'd ask my wife.) What fabric would you like? Jonathan
  20. I have one from Sealey. Several in the register of equipment for loan. But you're probably about to get suggestions that it can be done with pointy pliers, peg wrenches from circular saws etc. Jonathan
  21. Secondly I need to replace the rear brake pads. I have fixed copper brake lines - an initial dabble suggests that removing the caliper body to replace the pads may be difficult without potentially damaging the brake lines - am I missing something obvious here, is there another way to do it? I do have a piston wind back tool so hoping that won't be a problem! It does seem strange, and if I were building again I'd fit flexible hoses. But it works out OK in practice: just be gentle. Maintenance notes from Alcester Racing Sevens. Jonathan
  22. Not all clicks are due to faulty relays. Jonathan
  23. I'd do the voltage checks next: it's very hard to diagnose what's happening if you're relying on the battery and there's a fault in or near it. But if you want to you can run a temporary lead from the battery live and touch it to the solenoid terminal. Or vice versa. Jonathan
