  1. But the battles weren't in vein! ;-) Jonathan
  2. :-) One of the battles we had was with anaesthetists who cut off bands as soon as they could in case they needed access. The stories I could tell about barcodes... Jonathan
  3. Thanks x2. I just don't understand what I screwed up in the thermostat thread... Jonathan PS: That comment reminds me of a heartstopping moment. I was giving a lecture on patient identification and showed an old-fashioned handwritten wristband in place with ink that had run so that the crucial information was indecipherable. A voice came from the back "That's my wrist!". Visions of disbarment passed before me. I peered into the dark and recognised a buddy pathologist from Leeds who had just had his second bone marrow transplant and had sent me the photo to illustrate the problem.
  4. Do you see a photo above without clicking on anything? Thanks Jonathan ... https://www.dropbox.com/s/2a12jvzefx0z3f6/20140322_132934_resized_1.jpg?raw=1
  5. I couldn't remember which it was. See also Toni! :-) Jonathan
  6. Yes, I have bent it in order to get the cable adjustment correct. This doesn't change the fact that the head is tiny and too far up the foot well. Shouldn't that be the other way round? Adjust the pedal height until it's where you want it, then adjust the cable? Jonathan
  7. Bilt-Hamber Surfex HD Interesting. Hadn't heard of that. According to this data sheet its contains both nonionic and cationic surfactant so it's hard to predict the detergent effect. Can I persuade (!) anyone to do clean half of some thing(s) with it and half with "ordinary cleaner" and compare the results. Blinded? Clive? Jonathan PS: I agree with Paul unless there's oil or something that doesn't come out with detergent alone.
  8. This weird... when I looked after your comment it showed and now it doesn't. I'll take it off to Testing. Sorry Jonathan
  9. Does this now show inline without clicking? Jonathan
  10. Thanks, Ezzer. Something's changed and I'll investigate it tonight. But can you see the image in post #5 without clicking on the link... "inline"? Thanks Jonathan
  11. Have you found how to make all the pedal and cable adjustments? It's not unusual to bend the throttle pedal using a strategically placed piece of tree. Jonathan PS: But mine needed lifting so it currently has a section of mahogany banister bolted on top. However two kind Members have offered to replicate the effect in metal.
  12. Finally cracked how to show Dropbox images inline. This is Ian's image from post #5 (corrected). Jonathan Edited: see post #16.
  13. Ian: the link to your photo in a prevous thread is broken. Could you face posting it again? Position of hole (AFAIK but I've never needed to do the deed): Jonathan (Crossed with post #5)
  14. Is it the same as the Titan rack in the Elise? Parts diagram Rebuild notes from SELOCJonathan
  15. "Why have negative rear camber?" De Dion? What tyres? Jonathan PS: Are you sure you mean camber rather castor? Did they change or machine or shim or the de Dion ears?
  16. ... also you will need an old style expansion tank that use to be fitted to some of the K series Sevens. This? Jonathan
  17. I need to find out where the feed for the brown/yellow comes from? Do you have the wiring diagram for your car? If not send me a Private Mail. What sort of alternator? If it's a Brise which terminal pattern? The Brown/Yellow wire goes from the appropriate terminal on the alternator to one side of the warning lamp. The other side of the warning lamp is at battery positive. When the alternator isn't charging the lamp sees 12V across it and illuminates. When the alternator is charging the lamp sees very little potential difference across it and doesn't.Jonathan
  18. martinwhitcher: Does the battery go flat? What's the voltage across the battery terminals, and what does the ignition warning light do: With the ignition on and the engine not running While cranking At 3,000 rpm?Jonathan
  19. Options including "Wood Silk" from the archives. The bee connection is wax rather than honey! :-) Jonathan
  20. I think this is all pointing one way, but I'd check a couple of other things. The red light seemed to go on and off when it felt like it. Disconnect the wire to the light at the alternator and connect it to earth. With the ignition on does the red light now come on bright and constant? As well as using a multimeter I also checked the voltages with an OBD scanner. Same results as yesterday with 12.2V engine running and sub 12V with everything on. Revving did nothing to the voltages. It sounds as if the wiring and connections aren't the problem, but do the same voltage test at the output terminal of the alternator. Jonathan
  21. It has made me wonder if an 85A alternator is a good match for a 30A battery. That's probably a 30 Amp x hours rating and measures the storage capacity, there's no need to match those numbers for charging. What sort of battery is it? Jonathan
  22. Caterham Parts: does this look right? Talk to Redline. Can you see any identification on the one you've got?Jonathan
  23. I'm fairly sure I need a new, refurbed or repaired alternator. Probably. Most people seem to get good results from local repairers. But first I'd disconnect, inspect and clean the connections of all the wires to the alternator and all of the relevant fat cables including the engine earth(s). Jonathan
  24. I find the BC search function a pain unless you know exactly what to search for. I searched for 'Tools' and the aforementioned did not show up. Did you spot how to do site-restricted Google searches from the URL in that link? That's the best approach... so far. Jonathan
  25. Mentioned here. ;-) I wouldn't use this because the relevant vehicles are left on their conditioning chargers all the time. Jonathan
