  1. Lots of people have done this, but unfortunately the experiences and advice (including the need for spacers) are scattered across multiple threads. Jonathan
  2. Does anyone know the composition of the "resin" used for commercial repairs? Jonathan PS: If were trying Araldite I'd test "Ceramic and glass" as well as "Clear": current range, but not as we know it.
  3. Apart from the optical distortion I don't know a suitable film that would take enough energy out of a flying stone, because it wouldn't be allowed to deform. Jonathan
  4. A piece of ply should do the job: would that be more convenient than a slab for any reason? Jonathan
  5. 391162086836 http://thumbs.ebaystatic.com/images/g/FcgAAOSw3xJVbxvr/s-l225.jpg Did you buy 10? Would you like to sell any on? Jonathan
  6. PS: And then there's that 3M tape which looks black until you shine a light on it... Jonathan
  7. Toothpaste is a very useful mild abrasive. As is liquid Brasso (not the wadding) which adds a bit of solvent effect. You can get very good results on plastic with either. Usual precautions: try it somewhere that it doesn't matter. Jonathan
  8. Yes, but wouldn't they still show... can you mock that up with the ones you haven't fitted? Jonathan
  9. During a conversation with Tazio about the side repeaters in his headlights, he pointed out they were useful at preventing the indicators being left on as they are in line of sight whereas the ones in the forward facing pods are not. That's clever. But I can just see the back of the indicator pods: how about putting the extra lamp there rather than in the headlight? Even if they were too low you'd still see them reflected in the headlamp bowl. Jonathan
  10. I replaced one of my originals with Titon. They'll make the lap straps pull up or pull down as you wish. I got it from Prima Motorsport but now I'd go to Meteor Motorsport. Jonathan (crossed with Rob's)
  11. One gripe I've got with the Caterham parts website is they don't say "you might need this fitting kit". I suppose I should have learnt when the roll over bar arrived only to realise I had to order the slim headed bolt for the bottom fixing. There are often complaints that the information on stock isn't accurate. Similarly for fasteners and other bits I'd recommend emailing (or even 'phoning) to check that you're ordering everything that you need. Hindsight, eh? :-) Jonathan
  12. Btw, do MOT gas analyzers actually read the O2 sensor output, or merely calculate a lambda value from other inputs? I've always assumed they have their own oxygen sensor, and that's it similar to the one on the car... but is that what you're asking? Jonathan
  13. Look for that possible exhaust leak, but what's the best way? Inspect and probably replace plugs. Clean or replace air filter.Have you chatted with the garage about needing repeat checks without going through MOT processes... when does it expire? Jonathan
  14. Looks like a new speed sensor is requird. over £100 from caterham, does anyone else do them a bit cheaper? If you can't fix the thread then I think that someone identified a third-party supplier, it should be in the archives, but I might be thinking of the all-mechanical drive. I'd also ask Redline (but you have to 'phone) and JDO (who answers emails very quickly). Jonathan
  15. There are some discussions in the archives. Apparently local Bosch agents can do this. Jonathan
  16. Probably not the volume there to make a viable case for creating a business... As you imply: it would be a very tight niche between DIY ± helpful volunteers (and they don't come much more helpful than around here) and full service operations. But it needn't be restricted to building. My nerve fails just short of fitting a new cam belt to my K. I might be interested in paying someone to come and do it, or watch me do it, rather than dropping the whole car off somewhere else. And apart from that convenience I'd probably do more of the job myself with an angel alongside. Jonathan
  17. Mmmmm... data. You're a long way off. How hot was the engine? What's the history of the car? What were the values at previous tests? How well does it run generally? How old are the plugs and what type are they?Jonathan
  18. What Andrew says. Have a good look and wiggle at the wiring from the sender, especially where it's exposed. And while you're sorting all that out, two more tests when it's in that over 7 bar mode: Switch off the ignition: what happens to the indicated reading and how quickly? Back into that mode, stall the engine without switching the ignition off, then what happens to the indicated reading and how quickly?Jonathan
  19. What John said. What web page were you browsing? Jonathan
  20. I'm impressed with the quality of repair with polymer that's now possible for roundish defects. Rain-X make something that they suggest might help with multiple small cracks. Haven't tried it. Jonathan
  21. I'm sure there was a thread recently on here about M O T and emissions Just a few! :-) Jonathan
  22. Current decision flowchart Jonathan
  23. What's the part number for those you have ordered? Jonathan
  24. Ah, with the above connectors do you stick the wires in either end, crimp and heat shrink? Yes. My connectors have a male and female component that you slip together. So when I screw up I can unplug them easily! Sound like bullet connectors: http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MzAwWDMwMA==/z/LSoAAOSwQItUCIXN/%24_35.JPG?set_id=2 Jonathan
