  1. The socket isnt the issue , i have the one CC told me was needed . What is it, please? Jonathan
  2. How about asking them what the socket fitting is and why they use it? (My guess is that there isn't a deep reason and that it was used in a previous application or similar.) Jonathan
  3. Thanks, Stu. We'll pass. Jonathan
  4. If these are typical screw drive clamps remember that you can daisychain two if one isn't long enough. Jonathan
  5. Previous similar experiences and hints. Jonathan
  6. On the bike racks is that corrugation on the arms to stop the bikes moving along them? How long are the arms? Thanks Jonathan
  7. If you send me a Private Mail with your email address I'll send the closest diagram I've got: what year is it? Jonathan
  8. I don't know that set-up. Do you have a wiring diagram? How do you turn off the ignition? Did the chatter only occur when you tried to start the engine or all the time? The fault occurred when you had the lights on before starting the engine? I'd check: The headlamp relay. Any relevant fuses. The state of the battery: voltage at rest, minimum during cranking and at 3,000 rpm.Jonathan
  9. Which model? http://www.aceserve.co.uk/new04/images/ledseq4.gif Jonathan
  10. The problem is getting a well fitting socket... Has the type and/or a suitable tool been identified? Would anyone lend it? Jonathan
  11. Side Issue: The mechanic spotted a short hose from block side of the SS Plenum chamber casting. It is an open tube. He thought this strange a tried with it plugged. Idle fails. I have never noticed this before. Is it correct to be there? I'm not sure from that description but is that the hose to the charcoal canister? My canister is on the RHS of the engine bay just behind the washer bottle. See Figure 14.5 in the Assembly Guide (or at least some versions of it). Jonathan
  12. I'd start by checking that the fan comes on when it's told to. Where's the sender and how many wires are attached to it? Any recent changes to anything? Jonathan
  13. What MADMALC says. Leak, as you say, but what's the best way to find these? Plugs and air filter. Do you have an Assembly Guide with the wiring diagram. If you'd like one please send me a Private Mail with your email address. Can you add a photo of your ECU so that someone can identify it?Jonathan
  14. When it does run is it smooth and does it rev up nicely? Does the ignition warning light come on, and then extinguish as soon as the engine's running? What's the battery voltage at rest, minimum while cranking, at the minimum engine speed that it will hold and 3,000 rpm? Jonathan
  15. Please send me a Private Mail with your email address. Jonathan
  16. Part numbers: 1, 2, Jonathan
  17. BGH did say they experimented once by putting a higher gear on 3rd than 4th and lowering 4th to make an odd gated gearbox , which actually appeals to my sense of humour and love of idiosyncrasies... but they said it wasn't really strong. Nice idea though! That is clever, and I'll be more careful with my choice of wording! :-) One of the interesting features of the Lotus "queerbox" was the lack of constraint on ratios: Jonathan
  18. Just converted to EVANS. Been out twice since the transfer, and no problems. What problems did you have before, please? Thanks Jonathan
  19. It's difficult to predict effects on acceleration in real use. What's your current first like? And would you generally like the gears closer or wider? What's your current final drive ratio, and what tyres do you have? With the gear ratios and those you can calculate shift points etc as well as mph/1000 rpm and the effect on cruising. Jonathan
  20. As I have a tad more power than stock can I utilise a 'longer' 4th in any way? I would guess that top is straight-through and therefore stuck at a ratio of 1. (The same issue came up with a six speed box very recently.) That would leave the final drive and wheels/tyres if you want higher gearing in top... Jonathan
  21. AFAIK Private Messages are getting through despite the error message. Some external emails are but others aren't. Jonathan
  22. Have you found these in the archives, 1, 2, 3? If a preloved one doesn't appear I'd go to Halfords in the 7 and try whatever they have. NB Club discount. Jonathan
  23. Thanks, anyway. ...quick flick of switch and loads of footwell illumination to find it again Who has a Paddy Hopkirk chrome gooseneck map lamp in their 7? :-) Jonathan
