    I've just replaced the battery on my 1800 K. It lives in a garage on a conditioning charger. It came with a Banner and I'd previously changed that for a Powervamp PVR 25, with which I was very happy. This time round the big decision was whether to switch to a lithium battery. Lots in the archives on this but I'm mean and risk averse. I bought a PVR Clubsport NP from their eBay store. NB: Terminals might be different from your current, but they sell adaptors. Case size might be different but you can fettle the straps or buy the appropriate case. I had to lengthen one fat red wire.Jonathan

    So, the clicking is the solenoid I presume, with insufficient juice to turn the engine etc? Yes. There are lots of possible causes but from your existing observations it's very likely to be the weak battery. Jonathan

    It's not looking good. I'd do a few more measurements before getting rid of it. What's the battery voltage: Minimum seen as you try to start it without the external power pack? Ditto with? At 3,000 rpm? This is a good first test of charging from the alternator and you need to know that's OK before installing the new battery.Jonathan PS: Do you want recommendations for the new one?

    That's an impressive attempt, John. It was as if they'd done nothing at all (which seems unlikely as they'd asked me to provide feedback on gauge performance) How big an operation are they? Big enough to have separate departments for technical work and customer relations? Jonathan

    In the days when I did it myself I used Castrol CL, but only because that was to hand. If I were buying some new I'd probably get Castrol LM (which may well be called "Multi-Purpose" nowadays). But I don't know what's actually in there at the moment because now it's done at the MoT inspection and I'm up in the car on the ramp. I don't know how to describe or specify the nozzle beyond "one that fits well". That might be somewhere in the previous discussions. Jonathan

Toughened is the most common product for car glazing other than windscreens. The same page says "Offers the ultimate in safety" for toughened glass. That isn't true for car windscreens if you're restrained so that your head doesn't hit the screen. Or bullet-resistance etc. Jonathan

    I don't know about flat screens on LRs, but I'd guess that they moved to laminated glass when everyone else in the UK did. Or a bit later being LR. (Rover were one of the partners in a lot of the Triplex innovations, and my father's 3500s had some interesting glazing experiments.) I was intrigued by your post and had a look at the Stevenage Glass website... they don't mention windscreens in the uses of toughened glass. Jonathan

    Would anyone like a Caterham rev counter? I bought this preloved from a Member but the electrical connection is different from my car's. (Who knew they weren't all the same?) Good external condition with unblemished face and bezel. £75 or offers + delivery. I haven't tested it (for the obvious reason) and if it doesn't work I'll reimburse the cost and both delivery charges. Jonathan
