  1. Probably of little concern to most 7 owners, but some of the hard wired USB adapters' internal electronics generate and radiate considerable radio frequency noise. Paul: Any idea how common this is, or why hard wired adaptors could be worse than plug-in? As I think you're implying most 7s don't have radios to spot the effect... Jonathan
  2. Roger: how are you going to measure the effect on temperature? Jonathan
  3. Hmmm... I'd ask Caerbont if they have any suggestions or if the brightness is controllable from the bus. Jonathan
  4. If like me you've a 2 litre engine rev'ing at say 4000 rpm that's sucking in a lot of air - 8 cubic metres a minute. You have a 2 L two-stroke? :-) But it doesn't affect the logic of the argument much. Jonathan
  5. I'd have a word with antonio while it's still fresh in his mind. Jonathan
  6. Someone spotted one from Burton last week. Jonathan PS: Are you sure that the problem is in the sensor rather than the wiring?
  7. "How to tell the difference of a 8% and a 22% rack" and more. Jonathan
  8. ... and then wiped them down with cellulose thinners. I'm always surprised how readily others reach for proprietary brake cleaner for tasks other than brake cleaning. This made my day! :-) Jonathan
  9. What do you want to use the car for? 1) Presumably its worth also replacing the disks at the same time to help bedding in? I'd change the discs only if they were too thin or worn or not true. Am I completely out of date? 4) is there much to be gained by moving away from the solid discs to ventilated/ cross drilled jobbies? Do you ever experience loss of braking performance after heavy use? Jonathan
  10. Legality discussed here in 2014. Jonathan
  11. Are those these? http://i.ebayimg.com/06/!B5d,(pgBmk~%24(KGrHqIOKiwEyWbg6IltBMtv6KpsI!~~_12.JPG?set_id=8800005007 And have you got a source for the LED lamps, please? Thanks Jonathan
  12. I think a lot of the problem with Caterham lights is our relationship to them. In a tin top you are higher relative to the lamps, and look down and along them. In the seven you look along them. I suspect the same. But I don't know why this causes the unpleasant sensation, nor the relative contribution compared to that from poor lights and low lights. Jonathan
  13. What temperature do you want it to run at? Are you sure that the thermostat works? Do you think a new one with a different temperature rating might have been fitted with the engine work? Jonathan PS: There have been quite a lot of reports of overcooling, but mostly on K engines IIRC. Blanking some of the radiator may be necessary.
  14. Does that mean the Burton part works? Any modifications needed? Thanks Jonathan
  15. I have 5 3/4 headlight, do they have cibies for that size? Yes, according to AntonyH's excellent lighting blog. There may be more information in these previous discussions. Jonathan
  16. I wonder if its how low our lights are fitted? I don't really understand. Agreed. Which Philips lamps did you choose? Jonathan
  17. Lots of possibilities: lamps that are dimmer, caps as above, tape in the lens, variable resistor in the power feed. But I don't know what that dash is like: Are they LEDs or incandescant lamps? Can you add a photo of a lamp and a lampholder. Is there a single power feed at some point? Do you have or would you like a wiring diagram?Jonathan PS: Lots of cars had variable intensity illumination, usually with resistors in the power feed. But the Sunbeam Stiletto had eyelids that you could flick to dim.
  18. ... and there is a known wiring problem with (and fix for) the electronic type driven from the gearbox! Jonathan
  19. Welcome. Where are you? Yes, all of the bits can fail, including the instrument. The instruments are repairable. Have you had a good look at and wiggle of the drive where it comes out of the gearbox? Does the speed indicator move at all? Do the odometer and trip meter still work? Jonathan
  20. That's where I'd go. Jonathan
  21. There's also a description of Uncle Fester's fully ducted system somewhere in the archives. Jonathan
