  1. That link in post #18 doesn't work for me. What are you trying to do there? Jonathan
  2. Side-on doors-off driver-in photos? Jonathan
  3. ... I will take width/contact patch size every time. Same question as before: at what pressure do you run the 6" and the 8" tyres in order to get that bigger area of contact? Jonathan
  4. Those look like the rubber well nuts that I used for the jack. ... RIVNUT® Jonathan PS: I used nylon bolts for the rear wings.
  5. Depends on how you set the tyre pressure. I don't know much more massive the 8" wheels and tyres are but apart from that effect on weight the width of the tyre doesn't independently affect the area of contact: that only depends on the corner weight and the tyre pressure. The width of tyre is likely to affect the shape of the contact patch. Jonathan
  6. Is the cable fully opening the valve? It's a known problem. Jonathan
  7. The sort of rubber well nuts I used to mount my jack under the bonnet have quite a thick lip. Wouldn't that hold the wing away from the side of the car? Edited: See post #19. Jonathan
  8. No idea about sprinting, but some thoughts about physics. On the face of it you might expect more grip with a bigger contact patch but there's less weight on the contact patch... What are you comparing with what when you say "less weight"? Jonathan
  9. :-) https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site:lotus7.club+dry+sump+volume https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site:lotus7.club+dry+sump+capacity Jonathan
  10. Need to search blatchat - which didn't reveal anything relevant, is it my imagination or is the search function a bit vague? "Vague" is generous in comparison to previous descriptions. Do you know the trick for using external search engines with site restriction? I find that much more effective. Jonathan
  11. How have you set the belt tension? I do it by checking the displacement with thumb pressure in the middle of the longest run, but others recommend twisting. ... Measuring with a multimeter? I like to see 14.4 V at 3,000 rpm, but 13.8 V is probably fine. (The battery sounds OK. But while you're down there I'd measure and record minimum voltage during cranking. That's a good test of the condition of the battery and will tell you when it's off to meet its maker.) Jonathan
  12. Well done. Anything dubious about the wiring or connection or are you going to buy and fit a new sensor? Jonathan
  13. Glad it's sorted. I'd guess that you either improved an electrical connection or unstuck some stiction in the drive. If it recurs remember that they are surprisingly repairable... and of course you're now an expert at getting them off and on again. :-) Jonathan
  14. Well done with the photo. I've played with it a bit for viewing on a computer screen: I haven't taken up the welding course I was given as a retirement present but it looks do-able. But I wouldn't think that spot welding was the method of choice. Whereabouts is the car? I wonder if we can come up with somewhere local and suitable... Jonathan
  15. The link in post #6... not the one in my signature. Jonathan
  16. Check all the relevant wiring and connections, including the earths. Wiggle, disconnect, inspect and clean, reconnect. What's the minimum voltage seen across the battery as the starter motor spins up? (You can do that with the jump battery attached.)Jonathan
  17. Thanks for the link to the archive. For once I didn't put any links in my reply! That's just my generic signature, and I hadn't realised it could be interpreted like that. : -) As for photos....beyond my IT skills I'm afraid !! Ian's excellent Forum Guide should help. Jonathan
  18. Any deformation of the bracket or where it was attached? Photos? Jonathan
  19. Persuasion with a soft-faced mallet? Jonathan PS: Advice from Alcester Racing 7s.
  20. You've removed both of the bolts running forward from the bellhousing? Jonathan
  21. Any work recently done on it? Check for loose connections on all the HT bits that are accessible. Where are you? Jonathan
  22. Glasses, ask anyone you know in the construction industry for a few pairs of glasses, they are issued to operatives in clear and tinted versions. I very rarely wear sunglasses, but following discussion on BlatChat bought some "safety specs" from Screwfix at under £10 for a long bike tour. Very pleased and it wouldn't be a problem if they got damaged or lost. And it is certainly less tiring without the wind in my eyes. Jonathan
  23. ... I have always struggled to get the lap strap tight enough. Which way do you pull to tighten? Away from the mounting or away from the buckle? Jonathan
