  1. How about getting it repaired? The electrical connections and mounting will be the same as at present, and it might be cheaper than a new one. Jonathan
  2. Welcome back. Would it help catch Members' eyes if you added those registration numbers to the title of the thread? Jonathan
  3. Please let us know how you get on, and whether there's anything special about hoses for the R300. Thanks Jonathan
  4. Surprised at that last sentence, John. I barely know the handle of a screwdriver from the jaws and I haven't had any problems. I use a silicone spray lubricant on the inside of the hose and on the clamp. And a very wise person once advised me to use the hex head rather than the slot to tighten the clamps. (Incidentally the original clamps from Caterham were fine after 10y and I didn't need to use most of the fancy new ones I'd bought after browsing BlatChat). Jonathan
  5. How fine a finish do you want? I'd probably talk to local powdercoaters, ask if they can match for colour, and what preparation they recommend, which i'd expect to be some sort of blasting. ... Is it just a matter of spraying paint on top of the existing black colour? No. any preparation needed? Yes. For painting there's probably some aphorism such as the quality of preparation being 90% of the quality of finish. Watch some Wheeler Dealers or American Hot Rod! :-) ... what to do with the 2 stickers on the diagonal bar? Do you want the certification stickers to show for competition use? If not I'd remove them as part of the preparation, and start with WD-40 and a nylon brush and my fingernails. Jonathan PS: I have a blind spot about wrapping. Is that a contender for this job?
  6. Is the set-up in the R300 different from other Ks? If I wanted anything custom I'd ask Classic Silicone Hoses. Who are the suppliers and what do your recomend? I put all the details I could find in a single thread somewhere. There's lots of satisfaction with all of the big three, and one of them offers a Club discount. Jonathan
  7. Thanks I'll amend my earlier reservation. Jonathan
  8. Nice work. I've also seen a proprietary version with a 90° spigot. Could you add a photo with it installed in the car to show the access to the hole. Thanks Jonathan PS: "Challenging" :-) I have no idea how i once took off and refitted my top plate, and I'd borrow someone with smaller hands in future.
  9. Did I mention that they had round heads with slots... ? ;-) Jonathan
  10. ... simoniz paint recommended in another thread... Here. Jonathan
  11. Whoops. Recursion: see Recursion. Sorry Jonathan
  12. Probably as discussed here. Jonathan
  13. James May talked in his rebuilder programme about the difference of description vis-a-vis threads all the way to the head, plain bits of shank Yes, but that criterion is insufficient. I thought it was apocryphal that the material got its name from a concatenation/abbreviation of New York and London... I've heard it a few times. But it isn't true... does that help or hinder it being apocryphal? Nystatin on the other hand... Jonathan
  14. Well I just used one of my Elise Rawlnuts to replace the rivnut that had ripped out of my 7. Did the thickness of the flange cause any problems with snugging up the wing and clamping the piping? Jonathan
  15. Wikipedia explains it pretty well. But the first sentence is by far the most important. The latter seems poor to me, as it depends on how the threaded thing is used. Yes, not much use when you're trying to find and buy the right widget. But quite a good principle in linguistics for parts of speech. At least it is if you're a modern descriptivist. ;-) Jonathan
  16. Yes, good to see the experiment run, but, as a responder noted, it's hard to interpret without repeat runs in the same configuration. I can't see the site now because it's blocked me: what are the flat-out speeds? They didn't look sufficiently different. Jonathan
  17. Savage? But there's a comment here: "I have purchased some switches from Caterham which are similar to Savage switches (APEM) but made by a different manufacturer (EAO).". Jonathan
  18. Well, not even I capitalises* "nylon". But are they bolts or set screws or machine screws... the thread on mine runs up to the head! I think that those distinctions were never consistent and are now otiose. Jonathan * But should that be in the singular or plural? :-)
  19. Wire brush off the loose powdercoat, then convert any rust with brushed on phosphoric acid (off Ebay 'cos the EU says you can't buy anything commercial that works any more as you're likely to drink it, or throw it at people ? What concentration would you like? Jonathan
  20. Do you know how they prime, please? Jonathan
  21. But what size do I need? M5... but which length? ditto re the (nylon) bolts? I used M5 x 25 nylon bolts* into the original fittings. And there's a lot left: how many would you like? On rereading the archives I see that it's recommended to weaken them and/or not fill all the holes. Jonathan * But where's the Self-Appointed Club Pedant when he's needed? :-)
  22. I think the favoured treatment is POR-15. From the archives! Jonathan
  23. Just been out to have a look at why they don't all do that. Mine seems to have a longitudinal stiffening bar that spans the passenger's cutout. Does that feel intact when you press it inwards? Compare with the driver's. Hinges and hinge pins OK? I'd guess that's replaceable, and I'd talk to Thundersport/ Oxted and Soft Bits for Sevens. But if the window is scratched or opaque or tired I'd replace the whole door. Jonathan PS: Do we still have a helpful Member at Oxted?
