  1. Fortunately there is a good video on Youtube which shows how to adjust the voltage so I will give that a try. That's what I'd do next. Jonathan
  2. Crossed with Andrew's. I have 11.80 volts at the wires which attach to the bulbholder. That's between the wires, not between the feed and a good earth? What's the voltage between the lamp contacts with the lamp removed? And again when it's replaced? Incandescants or LEDs? All other lights checked and working normally? Jonathan PS: Two reversing lamps?
  3. We don't know what the cause is yet, especially as it recurred with that direct connection. But today's discovery is going to help a lot in diagnosis. Do you have a wiring a diagram that matches the car? Is it positive or negative earth? Jonathan
  4. Well done. Is it really a dynamo and does it have a separate voltage regulator? And do you have a multimeter? Jonathan
  5. Thanks Jonathan PS: Nearly all of the lead is recycled in the UK, but I think it varies for the other bits.
  6. Its a lockup garage in a block and there is no power and no prospect of getting power. Other variations include an additional battery that charges when the sun shines and can be used to charge the 7 and help start after hibernation. And can light the space, preferably with LEDs, and might just power other things. And another battery on wheels or similar that can be charged elsewhere and taken to the garage, perhaps once a week. Jonathan
  7. Sounds good. Do they want the old one back or have they told you to chuck it? Jonathan

    Petit strut

??? The Pettys are a family of highly successful racing drivers in the USA and IIRC the strut was named after Richard Petty. Long before Petty's Garage was founded. Jonathan PS: He also owned a Type 56.
  10. Well done. Did it look as if a blob could move in and out of the flow, or did it look constant? And when was any work done that could have caused it? Jonathan
  11. Did that academic who did the CFD study the underside? How about starting with a pressure probe? Jonathan PS: Meredith effect! :-)
  12. Basically, if I could touch it when the engine is running I have, yet the resonance exists. I'm not sure if it adds anything at that frequency to touching but how about trying a stethoscope? Jonathan
  13. If it blows another I'd then disconnect the switched feed(s) at the wiper unit and try again. That should localise the short circuit. Can you get a compatible resettable circuit breaker in time? That should save some fuses! Jonathan
  14. Now it's dried out a bit... is it still blowing fuses? And are all other circuits working normally? Have you got the appropriate wiring diagram? Jonathan
  15. I'd recommend having a look and play with as many as possible that are actually installed in 7s. What's the relative cost of the different quick-release mounts? Jonathan
  16. Didn't someone describe similar occlusion with silicone sealant? Jonathan
  17. Factory fitted? And do you know how it is wired? Battery master switch? I wired my socket directly to the battery and would be happy to connect a solar panel with an appropriate control system. ... but the only thing that would be pulling power would be the immobilizer so presumably this would be very low. That's come up a lot in relation to intermittent use and smart chargers etc. I've come to the conclusion that it varies between cars. I'd probably measure the current and compare that with the output of the solar panel. The other thought is that we once had a discussion about solar power to isolated garages. That would allow lighting as well as charging... Jonathan
  18. Running well until going above 4500rpm, after 10-15 seconds seems to be suddenly out of fuel. Dip the clutch and it returns to a weak idle failing to rev. If you switch off does it recover by itself after a time? Have you tried removing the fuel filler cap? And do you hear an inrush of air when you do that after it's been running for a time or just after the fault has occurred? Jonathan
  19. I really don't like the way they now do the diagrams, but we did decode one in the recent resistor saga. I'll have a go. Jonathan
  20. Yes that is the wiring diagram in my build manual. But does it match the actual car? Jonathan
  21. Do the connector and wires to the rev counter match this?: Jonathan
  22. See ChrisC's post just above: I'd also be looking for intermittent loss of continuity and would start with those connectors + the one you've been plugging and unplugging. Jonathan
