  1. What are the old and new wheels and tyres? Can you add a front-on shot to show the lateral position of the tyre in the wing? Jonathan
  2. What sort of gauge? Is it switched with the water temperature? Any recent work? Other instruments working fine? Do you have the relevant wiring diagram and a multimeter?Jonathan
  3. ... that's the sort of thing I am hunting for - what's an "econoseal plug" (those big plastic connectors?) Econoseal connectors Jonathan
  4. Any recommendations for replacement air filters? What sort have you got? I used a Pipercross cleaning pack on a foam rubber filter and was satisfied. But it turned out be not very dirty anyway. Jonathan
  5. I'm not sure where you've got to: Does it crank normally? What's the battery voltage at rest, minimum during cranking and at 3,000 rpm if you can get it running? Have you tried squirting some ether in the air intake while it's cranking and not firing? How about running a good 12V feed and earth directly to the fuel pump to see if that makes any difference? Jonathan
  6. I haven't seen much discussion beyond this, which includes Caterham's advice. Jonathan
  7. Did they give you a wiring diagram? Jonathan
  8. I'd follow Ian's lines: Is there a leak in the exhaust system, starting with the new welds and then where it was reconnected? The oxygen sensor and connections. Check connections and then try another one? Is there a cheaper diagnostic route? (I've seen suggestions of disconnecting it and seeing what happens, but I think that was for poor running rather than your problem.)Jonathan
  9. Running well? Have you got data from previous tests? Jonathan
  10. Agree with Aeroscreens in post #10: you can fit and remove the top plate in situ. For some reason I did this during the build. But I'd borrow some smaller hands if I had to do it again. Agree with Ian in post #11: now I've got a cut-down hex key AND THE RIGHT SORT OF RATCHET SPANNER it's not too difficult. But my prop joints are greased while it's up on the ramp for the MoT inspection. As with draining, filling is easier with warm oil.Jonathan

Also curious about how to fix the fuel gauge, as mine has the exact behaviour described above. Several options (including Mark w's above), but I suspect that the most popular would be a black box between the sender and the gauge that you calibrate when you know that the tank is empty and full. They are commercially available. I once tried to find a circuit diagram for those who would like a more Sevenesque solution... Jonathan
  12. Alcester Racing 7s. Jonathan
  13. Does that already include power outlets in the cockpit? Jonathan
  14. Looking forward to your experiences. Jonathan PS: By an interesting coincidence there's a bloke with the same name as yours who recommends lending stuff around!
  15. No, but success for others often seems to have involved: Talking to Simon at Meteor Motorsport. Getting it corner weighted or flat floored, whatever those are.Jonathan
  16. Pictures in #1 now work. Also the oil temp doesn’t work, can’t see any settings for it so assume it’s a sensor You can measure the resistance directly across the sensor with everything disconnected and the engine both hot and cold. I'd also check the connection(s) at the sensor. But this still leaves the sluggish response of the display of engine speed... Jonathan
  17. Have you got the Caterham wiring diagram for the Stack dash and the Stack instructions? Did it ever work properly and now it doesn't? Any recent work? I'd start with the instrument earth. I can't see those images... macOS, Safari, and a Dropbox account. Jonathan
  18. Road? Track? There's a very recent discussion about cracked discs. IIRC one of the approaches was much cheaper than others. Jonathan
  19. Now I know I am off to go through the diaode things i bought from maplin to see if I can make it work now. Have you got a multimeter and the original wiring diagram? Jonathan
  20. I've never seen a back-to-back comparison, but I'd guess that help from a domestic cleaning product came from the solvent/ propellant rather than silicones. One of the more common is isopropanol. DRH: can I persuade you to try some of each of the following when you have a go and compare the results: WD-40 Isopropanol Cleaner as recommended by nickh7.Jonathan
  21. Which Pledge/ Mr Sheen products, please? Jonathan
  22. Has anyone taken the remote mounted sender route and does it remain reliable. That's what I'd do. Members who have gone that way seem happy enough, but I can't tell about longevity. Recent notes with photos on fitting. Jonathan
