  1. ... the switch got very hot in just a few seconds. There are quite a lot of recorded failures. And a recommended alternative. Jonathan
  2. Mine need the ignition on, 1998 K. This time, no brake lights but switch OK. OK by what criteria? Jonathan
  3. Please send me a Private Mail with the model, engine, year and type of dash and your email address. Jonathan
  4. There's a common fault with bad contacts inside the hazard warning light switch. If you cycle it a few times and normal service is restored it's probably that. It's easy to replace. But if it isn't that have you got a multimeter and wiring diagram? Jonathan
  5. Looks good. Jonathan PS: How long till we have self-healing manufactured stuff? :-)
  6. Secondary resistance 8.7 k ohms What ranges do you have on the multimeter? Jonathan
  7. Part numbers, formatting is scrambled but should be decipherable. Jonathan
  8. No idea how that could happen. Hard to see how a clumsy boot would remove rather than bend a piece of metal. Anywhere near where an exhaust probe would have been used? Would you be happy with a fill and touch-up? How well does the piece fit? Jonathan
  9. There's a discussion somewhere of £/kg for various interventions... Jonathan
  10. Have you got the wiring diagram* and a multimeter? All other instruments OK, even when this happens? Check the instrument earth. Check the wiring and connection at the oil pressure sender.Jonathan * Let me know if you'd like a copy.
  11. What's the ground clearance under the lowest point of the sump and the rake? What would you like the ground clearance to be? Are you happy with the angle of the track rods? If you're resetting the height would you consider full flat flooring? Jonathan
  12. "(e) except in the case of a mirror which, if knocked out of its alignment, can be returned to its former position without needing to be adjusted, each exterior mirror on the driver's side of the vehicle shall be capable of being adjusted by the driver when in his driving position, but this requirement shall not prevent such a mirror from being locked into position from the outside of the vehicle." Jonathan
  13. Yes. Jonathan PS: I could only find one similar report in the archives but it didn't include a resolution.
  14. New build or replacement? Presumably nothing strange on inspection? Have you tried the other hub on the problematic side? Jonathan
  15. Imitation is... Vide infra :-) Jonathan
  16. ... so I can monitor how it goes over the winter. Looking forward to the data. ... and leave the 12V power socket connected across the battery with the switch turned off. If you have to change or work on the socket etc I'd consider fitting one with both cigar lighter and USB sockets. Jonathan ... that just has bear wires... Might be a bit sluggish in the winter ;-)
  17. Well done: hope that's the end of it. Thanks for the details. I'm fairly sure I've got a CC standard immobiliser (the CSRs were factory-build), but generally, the standard of immobiliser fitting is often not up to the standard of other electrics. Others might want to check their immobiliser installations. Is there anything special about the immobiliser or its mounting in these particular 7s? Jonathan PS: To absorb energy from vibration the optimal density of foam is often a lot higher than you might think.
  18. ... but does anyone think all bushes need replacing on age if mileage just 3k since last TLC done? Edd China always does both sides at the same time. If you're dismantling anyway and the cost of the replacement is low it might be cost-effective to go beyond that. Ditto if you have to travel to use a press etc. ... how to upload. Forum User Guide. Jonathan
  19. Yes. But the legal requirements for any vehicle aren't met by passing an MoT inspection once a year. Jonathan
  20. A frame or towing dolly A frame or towing dolly"A"-Frames and Dollies: DfT Information Sheet. No idea about France, but if the answer doesn't appear here I'd ask the RAC. Ferry or tunnel... From Oxfordshire we use the long crossing to Caen or similar. There's a budget boat which is posh enough for us. ... migrating to the South of France for the winter... That's what it was invented for! There's a growing community of interest here... where are you considering? Have you found the advice about breakdown cover from ADAC? Jonathan
  21. How much have you read about this already? From the archives... Is your sensor in the factory position or on a bracket? Are you using the built-in indicator or the speedometer or both to test it? Have you rewired as in Workshop Notice WN572? Jonathan
  22. Lithium battery jump packs, from the archives (but the search gets confused with lithium main batteries). Jonathan
