I make that about 15 tubes if no-one drops out. That's a lot less than previous batches and the shipping costs might end up far too high... Anyone else interested? Thanks Jonathan
From the archives. But there also seems to be a general feeling that a rebuild by Bilstein is good value. Jonathan PS: I'd change the title on the duplicate post in order to concentrate the discussion here.
"Our chief weapon is a multimeter... a multimeter and some croc clips.. some croc clips and a multimeter.... Our two weapons are a multimeter and some croc clips...and a wiring diagram.... Our *three* weapons are a multimeter, some croc clips, a wiring diagram...and an almost fanatical devotion to BlatChat.... Our *four*...no... *Amongst* our weapons.... Amongst our weaponry...are such elements as a multimeter and some croc clips.... I'll come in again." Jonathan
After doing those voltage checks with and without the other battery, and depending on the results, the next thing I'd look at is the voltage into the solenoid when the key is turned/ button is pressed. Jonathan
Headlights are bright so clearly not a battery issue. I wouldn't rely on that as a test. What's the battery voltage at rest and as you try to crank? I then set about checking the wiring & earth but nothing obviously wrong. Did that involve disconnecting and cleaning the contacts? Jonathan
And this is the next attempt to get enough orders for a batch from China before the winter fettling season. Here are the prices from last time, they'll be confirmed before anyone has to commit to anything: Canister: £7.68 each Red bag: £2.24 each Black bag: £3.33 each Envelope (non-optional) to hold either 1 or 2 canisters + a lot of bags: £0.24 Postage: £2.85 per envelope, regardless of exactly what's in it. Jonathan
Lots on unsticking what's stuck, but not so much on getting hold of a damaged bolt... is the definitive method still welding a lever on the head? Jonathan
My Bosch cordless drill has a torque setting for putting in screws, which when it kicks in clicks/buzzes and seems to turn the screw in small increments. I wondered if this is the same action as an impact driver? Someone once explained here why the action is different... probably in that discussion of cheap offers o power tools. ... so plan to apply penetrating fluid over several days. Yes, but the real stuff, not WD-40. Heat wise only have a blow lamp - no acetylene kit. Blow torch should be fine. I use a tiny cooking blow torch. Watch some Edd China first to build up confidence? Jonathan
Thanks for all the reasons: that makes it much more interesting. Comma oil ordered from Amazon last night @ £25 per 5l At some point you have to jump! You'll be fine. Jonathan
if you have a 620 wiring diagram I’d love a copy . All my attempts to secure one have failed ! Just been checking my library and the Caterham Cars website for Maxim. I'm a bit worried that I can't find anything specific: only the generic non-160 2015 Assembly Guide, amendments and Handbook. Jonathan
On this basis, and bearing in mind my recent 3rd brake light install, I'm probably best leaving things as they are, at least for now. Didn't mean to put you off, and I think that there are many happy converts... Jonathan
Is the sender for the gauge separate to the ecu temp sender? If you'd like a wiring diagram please send me a Private Mail with the year, model, engine and your email address. Jonathan
Please could people say why they made their choice. Especially as I don't think that there's much evidence that can be brought to bear on the decision. Thanks Jonathan
... hence trying to get to some of the theory behind the grades. Ah... that is answerable. It's whether it matters in practice that's the difficult bit! :-) Regarding Foam, I hadn’t picked up on this debate. Assume replacement at every opportunity is food practice. Some do that, some inspect and decide, some remove and fit a modified gasket... engines have been lost over this. Jonathan
There's a vast amount on this in the archives and IMHO it doesn't answer your question conclusively. Anything recommended in Caterham's Assembly Guide or Handbook will be fine I use Comma 5W-50 for road use and trackdays as it's what Caterham recommend for track driving which is probably the most wearing on the engine.Have you made your decision on the Great Foam Question? Looking to complete my first oil change... Alcester Racing 7's notes. Jonathan
