  1. (3) Mondeo runs a tiny bit hotter per the temp guage. That's explicable from the known physical properties. And the suppliers suggest "3 - 10ºC hotter than those using water-based coolants". ... arguably more power. In 2015 the suppliers withdrew claims for greater power output after their advertisements were referred to the ASA. Jonathan
  2. Here you are, Derek. I suggest reading the whole thing from the beginning. Jonathan
  3. There's an existing extensive discussion of waterless coolant with some strongly held views. (Spot the hyperlink in that sentence.) Please can we continue the discussion there to avoid repeating ourselves? I'll bubble it to the top. Thanks Jonathan
  4. Anthony: have you already got a copy of the wiring diagram for the R500 K with Stack dash? Jonathan
  5. If it seems to be OK now I suggest measuring the battery voltage at rest, 3,000 rpm and minimum during cranking. Those figures could be useful for comparison if you have problems in the future. Jonathan
  6. Well done. Could I persuade you to respond to the note that I put in the Forum User Guide? Thanks Jonathan
  7. See the other thread for my initial guess.. Jonathan
  8. There's a problem with formatting in the first post in any thread. But I don't think that this has been spotted before. Now how could a bug improve functionality... ? My first guess is that the toggling of the rich-text setting is reversed... could you try that explicitly? You might not be able to debug it until that is resolved. Jonathan
  9. Wiring diagrams sent, Mark. NB all: there is a specific diagram for the main harness for the R500 K with Stack dash. I don't know how it differs. Jonathan
  10. I've never got that to behave properly from any commercial server. What was the procedure that worked? Jonathan PS: For your picture of the repeaters I drilled down into the served page until I got the URL of the image without all the navigational stuff, I didn't use the Embed facility...
  11. Can't work out how to add photos... You can upload them here or link to them on another server. Start with Ian B's excellent Forum User Guide, and tell us where you get stuck. But you can't currently add them in the first post of a thread... Jonathan
  12. The Assembly Guide has: Secure using bolt (fastener pack ZAX03, Item (4)) with spring washer (15) and plain washer (13). Does that let you work it out from Shaun's Bolt List or Paul's Fastener Packs? That links to a very useful site at http://tripleeracing.co.uk/CaterhamPartPacksImperial.pdf* which has: confirming Paul's response. Jonathan * ;-)
  13. Checking earth connections is a generally good thing, and Caterham suggests that bad earths cause ? 80% of smoke problems. But... Problems with the warning light seem surprisingly common, and most of those discussed here don't seem to have simple solutions at the end of the story. I think that's because victims either replace everything in sight or end up living with the problem. I'd approach it by investigating three specific types of cause: Problems in the warning light circuit: LEDs (as above), wiring, wrong terminal on the alternator. (And it is a strange circuit... who thought this up?) The alternator isn't charging properly. The voltage on the warning light terminal of the alternator isn't being asserted properly. Those are each quite easy to test. How about buying a multimeter (+ extra leads with croc clips) before Andrew's visit and asking him to show you how with the one you're going to end up with? Jonathan
  14. The cable angle drive from the gear box to speedo probably broken. I had to replace mine last year. Speedo needle was bouncing around. Mechanical rotating or electrical cable? Jonathan
  15. Me too. I've seen that before, and several times with images that used to show correctly. I suspect it's something to do with permissions on the server. Lee: Do they still show normally to you? Jonathan
  16. Yes, clean first. Then start with mild abrasives. As with most plastics I suggest Brasso (liquid rather than wadding), then toothpaste. As usual start in the area you care about least. Has anyone tried "microfibre" cloths with or without liquids? Jonathan
  17. Thanks, Ian. It would be nice to work out what it currently has and why... but how about fitting the usual sender to the radiator? Can you find the original wire that would be connected to that? Have you got an appropriate wiring diagram? Please send me a PM if you'd like a copy. Jonathan
  18. Isn't it conventional to suggest asking "Bruce at Arch" about this kind of chassis fettling? :-) Jonathan
  19. They did offer a live axle starter kit around then for a k so it's probably doable. I'm surprised by that, any more details, please? Jonathan
  20. Some cars don't use this thermo switch, but a signal from a more upmarket ECU. there is not a switch in the rad . could this be the ecu controlled version? More, please, Ian. This looks pretty central to sorting this. Was that as they came from the factory or a subsequent modification? Does the associated switch ring any bells? mark_w: What's the history of the car... was it used for racing etc? Has the cooling system been modified? Jonathan
