  1. Shaun's Guide. ... Have you got a balance bar to adjust the pitch angle? ... anyone know where the lifting eyes can be purchased ? With a bit of luck you'll be able to borrow those from someone who has completed a build. Is it easier to leave gearbox in car and have the 'challenge' of realigning the g'box to engine with g'box still in car on reinstall ? or take it all out in one go ? Previous discussion. Jonathan
  2. Next problem is making off the end of the green wire into an econoseal pin, special crimping tool required. There's one in the Equipment Register. And I suspect there are others that would be made available... Edited: You're ahead of me. :-) Jonathan
  3. Do you want it to come off cleanly afterwards? Jonathan
  4. https://www.lotus7.club/forum/techtalk/head-rest-rattle I promise that I searched before replying. I just didn't find that. :-( Jonathan
  5. I thought that the rigid pipes were undesirable when I assembled my 7, so asked the factory (by 'phone in those days) and they said that it was fine: "Just follow the Guide". There might have been a hint that it was different for race cars. And every time I've had them off since I've reassured myself with the wonderful notes from Alcester Racing 7s. And the last time it came up here I asked the factory if flexible pipes had any disadvantages of which they were aware. They said "No". ... there have been failures on race cars And that's just what I was about to ask. Jonathan
  6. Shaun has fixed the bug affecting original posts. Please could you retest? Thanks Jonathan
  7. Well done. That's good to know. Jonathan
  8. Thanks Jonathan PS: My favourite bike pump is discussed elsewhere.
  9. Best place for spring washers is the bin, the spread with load, or fracture and fall out leaving the fastener loose. The famous NASA paper... Jonathan
  10. That's Topeak Joe Blow Dualie Track Pump, £43. http://i1.adis.ws/i/washford/389379?w=637&h=403 Are you recommending it for 7s? Jonathan
  11. I think it's just stiction. If you compare the male tube on the two restraints is the one that is loose flattened? Jonathan
  12. Was this about the problem of sealing around the selector shaft? Discussed here. More generally... from the archives. Jonathan
  13. I'd start with "A021R to be discontinued!" but there's a fair bit of useful information scattered across a lot of threads, including some experiences with both types of Nankang. Jonathan PS: There are two hyperlinks in blue in the text above.
  14. Road or track or both? And how much do you care about grip in the wet? Jonathan
  15. Is there a difference between versions, please, elie? Jonathan
  16. On my 1998 de Dion, from the Assembly Guide: PROPSHAFT TO DIFFERENTIAL FITMENT 14 Attach the propshaft to the differential output flange using the four special blue bolts (polythene bag "miscellaneous"). No washers are required. Tighten to 42 lbft (58 Nm). Jonathan
  17. Glad you're fixed. Well done, Andrew. ... but it would seem I changed the alternator unnecessarily! You're nowhere near the first. But what was the sequence of events involving the RAC? What type of alternator and what are its current connections? Resistance is futile. Jonathan
  18. "..the generation of heat.." you mean the combustion itself? Yes. (Other sources such as friction being unaffected.) ok so that begs the question from where comes the idea that greater heat means more energy (power) in the context of the combustion engine.. That's what I was asking in #113. Who is saying that it does? (My contention is that the generation of heat is unchanged but the cooling system runs hotter because the thermal capacity of the coolant is lower.) in any case a couple of degrees isn't relevant (I imagine) in the context of combustion (ignition of the fuel). Agreed. Jonathan
  19. I don't think that we're disagreeing... the block is one of the intermediate points between the generation of heat and its transfer to the air that must be hotter... Jonathan
  20. Have you found the general guidance and parts list for fitting a mechanical pressure gauge? I think there may be a blog or Guide somewhere... ? And, specifically on Racetech. Jonathan
  21. Thanks. have I got to go look up the laws of thermodynamics? I will if it's important.. Not in my view of what's happening. But admirable devotion to the cause. :-) "In the process of energy transfer, some energy will dissipate as heat." is that your premise? The extra heat is simply dissipated? Not really. I think that the same amount of heat is generated and has to go somewhere. As the thermal capacity of the coolant is lower AND the bulk flow of coolant is the same (!) AND the final transfer from the coolant is to air at the same temperature and flow etc THEN all the intermediate points between the source of the heat and the transfer to air must be hotter. Jonathan
  22. I'm observing that more heat means more power. Why? My mental model of this is that the combustion/ power output/ thermal efficiency of the heat engine aren't significantly affected. But the lower thermal capacity of the Evans waterless coolant means that the cooling system has to be hotter for the same thermal transfer. Are you thinking of the higher theoretical thermodynamic efficiency of the heat engine because of higher peak temperature? Jonathan
