  1. The lights on my speedo and fuel gauge have all but failed. Still working but dim... are you sure it's not caused by a bad contact or earth? Jonathan
  2. There are LEDs that will fit the original holders. The fitting is probably 286 T5 but I don't think that we've ever tied down part numbers. Previous discussions. There's a recommended supplier somewhere... I'll try and remember. And I've just seen that Classic Car LEDs, who are recommended for other lamps, now have some. Can you add a photo of one of the lamps or ask the supplier directly and tell us? You might like to replace them all so that they match. Jonathan PS: The warning lights can also be replaced with LEDs, but the ignition warning light may need to pass enough current to excite the alternator.
  3. Thanks. Do you know if the current lamp is an LED, as in post #4? If that involves removing the tachometer please could you take a photo of the back and the connector. How does the warning lamp behave? What's the battery voltage at rest, minimum during charging and at 3,000 rpm? Jonathan
  4. I'm confused. Which alternator do you want on the car when it's all sorted? Do you also want to test the other alternator to know that it's charging and otherwise behaving normally? Jonathan
  5. 3) I have bought a heater on here, does anybody have either a manual or an extract of a manualthat will show me how to connect it to the cooling system? 4) Is there a service manual out there that will help me see my way around it? Have you already got an Assembly Guide? If not please send me a Private Mail with your email address. Jonathan
  6. Might be interested. Do you have photos? Or does it look like these? Thanks Jonathan
  7. WOSP K-series 65A race alternator part# LMA226 WOSP's information doesn't seem to be consistent: Here it only has two connections "B+" and "Lamp" (and by implication doesn't need another exciter feed). Here it has "B+/IG/L/S ".How many connectors does yours have? Previous discussion of this issue, and where to get the proprietary connector. Jonathan PS: I've emailed WOSP asking for clarification despite their website stating "We are unable to deal with the public directly. Sorry!".
  8. Do you already have an appropriate Assembly Guide? Let me know if you'd like one. The "standard" wiring colours might also help. What type of plug is it onto the tacho so I can maybe open up and order new crimped sockets to try and replace. I discovered to my surprise (and cost) that there are (at least) two different types of multiway plugs into "ordinary" analogue Caterham tachometers. Jonathan
  9. What type of alternator? How many wires of what colour and size are currently connected to it? What's the battery voltage at rest, minimum during cranking and at 3,000 rpm? Does the ignition warning light come on with the ignition and go off when the engine's running? Jonathan
  10. How do low oil pressure senders work? If I hooked up a low oil pressure sender does the sender go to earth when it reaches the "alert"? That should work with the right type of sender. Previous discussions. Presumably the senders have a nominal pressure at which they switch, and that might differ between senders. Have you decided where you'd like to put it? I think some have used T pieces. Jonathan
  11. Both DOT 5? And how's the pedal now? And the braking on the road? Jonathan
  12. I have put a litre of fluid through the brakes and rotated the caliper in every direction just in case so I don't think there could be any air trapped. What fluid have you got in now, and did you use pressure assistance when flushing and filling? Jonathan
  13. Think of it as the first step towards solving the problem! Jonathan
  14. Would you trust them with a Seven? (Yeah I know it's a car, not a crystal chandelier....) I had my new tyres fitted by a non-enthusiast non-specialist non-chain place in the next village. I asked them if I could stay and watch but that didn't work, so I told them all about the car in the hope that they would be gentle. Went fine. Nuts and pressures checked as soon as I was home. Jonathan
  15. Have you bled them in the past? Where are the bleed nipples... top, bottom, side? How did you bleed them: blow, suck, or gravity and pedal alone? I am using silicon brake fluid What specification and brand? And what was in there before? Jonathan PS: That's "silicone".

    Well done. Jonathan
  17. Eulogy in Low Flying, please. Jonathan
  18. Can you add a photo of the bit you've got? Jonathan
  19. You've already found Andrew's original magnetic discovery and procedure, not just the general idea? Jonathan

A bit more on the problem, please, Jim. ... the grommet will no longer fit over it. Is that the "grommet" that goes round the instrument at the point where it contacts the dash? Or the cover over the switches and the lampholder? Refitting the instrument... why isn't reinserting the reverse of removal? ... the momo steering wheel is held on by some allen screws, but I've had no luck getting them loose. What tool are you using? I'd give them a good spray of penetrating oil (not WD-40). Then try with a hex bit on a wrench. Beyond that... have you got an impact screwdriver... but I'm worried that that feels a bit violent. You could remove the whole upper column... Jonathan
  21. ... and more. But I can't find Nifty's pdf. Jonathan
  22. "Idiot's guide to fitting uprated hubs" Jonathan
  23. Thanks. Private Mail sent. Jonathan
  24. Is there a difference between trying to add photos to a blog and trying to add them to a forum post? ... also the 'drag and drop' facility to arrange photos appears to have disappeared. Did we ever have that? Jonathan
