  1. And what did you fill it with? Thanks Jonathan
  2. Agreed: my headband LED light is one of the most useful of all tools. Workshop, DIY, walking, cycling... And one of my children showed me how to find spiders at night. Jonathan
  3. I think that it's been solved already, but how to contact the archivist. Have fun Jonathan
  4. Just the unanswered question here: But John's full diagram might now be able to solve this. Jonathan PS: I think that's now four relay layouts for Sigmas!
  5. I lunched an engine by not removing the foam, and relying on regular inspection (by eye). I'd hate it to happen to anyone else. Have you got the notes on adding *holes in the gasket? Jonathan * As in previous post! : - )
  6. Strategies vary. Many cooling problems on Ks can be solved by jacking, bleeding and massaging. And if those fail then it's *worth drilling the hole. But if the thermostat's coming out anyway then I don't think that there's a reported downside of drilling the hole anyway. Definitely add a bleeding T piece at the highest point in the heater hose. Jonathan * NB Added lightness! : - )
  7. Theory B, and rather simpler: The duff relay powered both something on which the immobiliser depends and the instruments. (And would probably be the mysterious "Ignition relay" on Sigmas.) How to tell these theories apart: • Work out which relay does what. • Rerun the voltage test. If it's still dropping to 10.7 V on cranking but now starting nicely then the first theory is wrong. (I'd also recommend routinely measuring battery voltage at rest, minimum during cranking, and at 3,000 rpm in the same way as fluid levels and tyre pressures... ) Jonathan
  8. Thanks I'll go through the library again when I'm back home. Jonathan
  9. And is there a blank space for another? Jonathan
  10. Theories, please. I'll open the bidding with a duff relay pulling the system voltage down to a point where either the immobiliser or something that affects it decided not to play nicely. 10.7 V might be the highest recorded level at which that's been observed, and the previous recommended safe level was 10.5 V. And again we see a modern starter cranking a modern engine even when something else doesn't have enough oomph. Jonathan
  11. Well done, and thanks for sharing the solution. Which relay is it... and NB those multiple different layouts in Sigma-engined Sevens. Jonathan
  12. Do you have one that's bust? They're surprisingly repairable, and you'd know that the new one would fit mechanically and electrically. Jonathan
  13. A photo would help... : - ) Jonathan
  14. Very interesting. Please confirm... that is "as soon as you switch ignition on", and not "as soon you try to start the engine". Does anything need resetting after this? Try that with a multimeter across the battery, and see how low the voltage goes, Try with an additional vehicle or battery and see if that changes anything. Jonathan
  15. Servicing Have you found the suggested schedules on this website? Don’t worry about the Redline website Email saying what you need… and you don’t even need part numbers, just details of your Seven Jonathan
  16. Welcome There are several recent reports of K engined Sevens being overcooled. And some people blank part of the radiator in winter. With it stationary on the drive what’s the temperature when the fan cuts in and what does it drop to? Jonathan PS: Do you need any technical documentation?
  17. Have you tried using a strategically placed smart ‘phone’s camera and screen? Jonathan
  18. This table of "commonly used" British wiring colours can save some time when identifying what's what. Jonathan
  19. Welcome Have you got all of the technical documentation that you need? Jonathan PS: Nice Ooh when you read that out loud. : - )
  20. We identified the dangling relay in a previous discussion. I've sent Andy what I think is the most likely layout of relays and fuses. NB there are at least two documented layouts on Sigma-engined Sevens, and one more that was analysed in a BlatChat thread. Jonathan
  21. How much power? Road only, or road and track? And how important is grip in the wet? Jonathan PS: It would be a great service if someone would keep an up to date wiki of what tyres are available in what size...
  22. Yes. The threshold value for electronics dropping out seems to be about 10.5 V. I don't think that this is the problem but if it's the sort of battery where you can check fluid level in the cells then I would. Jonathan
