  1. Any recent work? Has it been drowned? Do you already have a wiring diagram and fuse layout that match the car? Let me know if not. And a multimeter? ... There's a recurrently reported problem on some K ECUs that is fixed by using a 30 A fuse rather than 20 A but I don't think I've read anything similar with Duratecs. Jonathan
  2. Speedo calibration: What Ian says in #8. A full range of fixes is available, but it starts with identifying which type you have. Jonathan
  3. A few references in the archives. Jonathan
  4. How about the pulling those that are discrepant (which will identify them and start to confirm the layout) and fitting the factory suggested fuses, and seeing what happens? (With a few spares to hand!) The only recurrent problem of which I'm aware is the recommendation for 30 A rather than 20 A for some ECUs. Jonathan PS: Usual option of resettable circuit breakers or those clever fuses that light up when they're blown.
  5. What was the correct type, please? Thanks Jonathan
  6. I think I got the types wrong in this recent discussion. Jonathan
  7. The point of these comments is it's not necessarily the impact into your face that could be lethal, but what loss of control comes from it. Excellent point. And part of duty to others. Jonathan
  8. Looks like #3... but with some different fuses fitted? Jonathan
  9. New button, iPhone, held in landscape. Right way round.
  10. New button, iPhone, held in portrait. Right way round.
  11. Reports of Ks running cold seem to have become more common. Some have resorted to radiator blinds. When mine was rebuilt it was suggested that a lower rated thermostat was more suitable than the factory spec. But I don't know if VVCs are different... I'd want to check that the current thermostat closes correctly... using a pan of water and a thermometer. Jonathan
  12. Thanks for posting that. I've copied it to the thread discussing the consultation. Jonathan
  13. Which dash? Jonathan
  14. Steve Marsh's CSR documents. If you can't find what you need there please send me a Private Mail with details of the 7 (year, model, dash, engine) and your email address. Jonathan

    MOT

MOT changes from May 2018: guidance for MOT testers. (But it took some finding!) Changes to Section 8, including emissions. Jonathan
  16. Recent discussion, with links to documents. Changes to Section 8, including emissions. Jonathan
  17. Jack: There's a positive pressure kit and a valved nipple thing doing nothing in Garsington. Let me know if you'd like to borrow them. Jonathan
  18. There's a vast amount on this in the archives... you've already got a bleed valve... are you familiar with what's been suggested on tilting and massaging before you start? Jonathan
  19. :-) But I'd try releasing them by feel. More obstetric than speleological. Jonathan
  20. Three here, including Car Builder Solutions. Jonathan
  21. The one before that I have is from 1988: Jonathan
  22. I have the 1998 Assembly Guide for Ford-engined 7s. Please send me a Private Mail with the details of the 7 and your email address if you'd like a copy. Jonathan PS: The 1998 Guide has separate wiring diagrams for Ford, "Vauxhall Carbs" and injected K engined cars... but the layout of the fuse box is said to be the same: 1998 Fusebox layout.pdf
  23. Cycle the hazard warning light switch a few times... does that make any difference? For the diagrams: please send me a Private Mail with details of the 7 and your email address. Jonathan
  24. IIRC this varies between instruments. Have you had a look at the back and could you add photos? Previous discussions: 1, 2 with some photos and links to instructions. And the full search. Jonathan
  25. The original fog has 6mm spade terminals inside the light so these could come off and the wire could go out the other way, but the JAL unit doesn’t. I'd certainly start with something along those lines. How are the wires connected inside the new unit? Would there be room inside for some small inline connectors? Jonathan
