  1. Agreed. What a great combination: technical understanding, clear language, and the willingness to take the time to help others. Thank you Jonathan
  2. Club Developments Update, from the Chair. Jonathan
  3. The replacments you linked to are Maplin who are no more. The others I can find are '280' but apparently they're too bright. Off to ebay for some dimmer LES bulbs... Doh! Sorry. Are you looking at LEDs as well? ... Screenwash (what is that symbol...) A stylised squirt... or a shark? :-) Jonathan
  4. And if that doesn't work most faulty or damaged gauges can be repaired, and Members seem to have good experiences with all of the specialists. Jonathan
  5. I'm off to the Alps on monday with my mountain bike. But is the gearing right for your top end power output? :-) Have fun. Jonathan
  6. The speedo is cable driven from the gear box. I really don't want to spend any more money on it. Cheapest solutions for accurate display of speed with that are: Add marks at known speeds to the instrument using Letraset or similar, or: Use a GPS device such as a smart 'phone or dedicated satnav.Jonathan
  7. Were all K series models fitted with this diff. No. What ratio would you like? Change the diff but that would knock out the speedo calibration. I'd prioritise getting the gearing right. Then sort out the speedometer. What type have you got... mechanical off the gearbox. electronic off the gearbox, electronic off a wheel? And which dash? Jonathan
  8. BUT the green indicator warning light which works when the indicators are used does not go on ..... should it? Not sure what you're describing... the green indicator doesn't come on with the hazard warning lights or doesn't come on with the turn indicators? Jonathan
  9. It's never been checked in my recent inspections... because I'm in the car up on the lift and the Examiner is down below. NB: New rules came in on 28 May: Inspection Manual. Jonathan
  10. On mine the switches for the rear high intensity light, fan, washer, wiper and side/ headlights illuminate with the sidelights. (That isn't quite the same as here.) The switches for the heated screen, hazard warning light and the brake warning light only illuminate when thrown. ... How to replace bulbs, with the part number. Jonathan
  11. ... is there a real valve in it? it looks to me it is just a soft black tube attached to a hard clear tube. I don't know that model. The Q and As on the website say that there is a ball valve in the tube, but that it doesn't work very well. The receiver in the Alcester Racing 7's picture has a magnet on the side. I think that there's a Sealey product like that. I've only just realised how helpful that would be if you were bleeding a car that was high above the floor. Jonathan
  12. Much better than butchering the main wiring... Yes, but with the fitted leads was there enough length to connect the additional light unit directly without the subloom? And which type was it? Thanks Jonathan
  13. BC Lithium Batteries BCTZ20HL-FP-S LiFePO4 Motorcycle Battery £144 1.2 kg "This battery has 420 cranking amps, 7 Amp Hours" in the Q and As. ... JMT Lithium Ion Battery HJTX20H-FP For Harley FLHS 1340 Electra Glide Sport 1990 £170 1.4 kg 7 Ah CCA: 420 A ... Jonathan
  14. Green is conventionally "Accessories fused by ignition switch" and Black earth. So my first guess would be they're for an accessory power supply. Some Sevens do come wired for an extra brake light, and I'd expect those to have a Green/Purple feed. Have you got a multimeter and a wiring diagram? Jonathan
  15. For anyone other than John: electronic adjuster modules that match senders to gauges are available. Jonathan
  16. I can't remember the resistance of the Caterham sender, nor whether there's more one type. Am I correct in assuming that if I measure the resistance of my existing sensor (which is standard Caterham) I will be able to work out if it is compatible. Yes. Could also then work out if a resistor in parallel could 're-calibrate' it? That might work. You can also get adjuster modules that will match any sender to any gauge. And probably give a more accurate reading than the factory set-up. Jonathan
  17. ! Great service. What was kept from the original... face, needle and bezel? Jonathan PS: Thanks for posting in this thread, that makes it much easier for the next Member in need to find what's possible and where to go.
  18. http://www.imps.me.uk/images/Shows_2010/IMPTWENTYTEN/Cars%20at%20the%20show/ABL384J_Sunbeam-Stiletto_Imp2010.jpg My mother's Stiletto was brown/ bronze with a black roof, same as above. Strange colour but it wasn't actually unpleasant in the flesh. I put a lot of miles on it. Delightful and original little car. Felt precise and light, although I"m not sure that it was. And had the right amount of power. The dimming eyelids on the dashboard lights would be nice on a Seven. This was the second second car in our family, following a Herald 13/60 and succeeded by a Mk IV Spitfire 1300, which I then owned for years. IIRC the shortlist was the Stiletto, a four seater Morgan and an MGB GT. A two-seater Alpine was also discussed but on checking the dates that must have been an alternative to the Herald. Jonathan PS: I imagine that in these parts everyone knows the connections to the original Elite and the original Elan...
  19. Do Racetech state the compatible resistance range? Previous discussions. Jonathan
  20. You will probably have to recalibrate the speedo Hi John is that an easy job or req go garage What sort of speedometer do you have: mechanical off the gearbox, electronic off the gearbox or electronic off a wheel? Jonathan
  21. Can someone please describe how to use the valved tube. When the positive pressure comes off and the pistons return home it's undesirable to get air coming back into the system at the nipple. As elie says in #7 above you can stop that happening by keeping the free end of the bleeding tube below the surface of the liquid in the receiving container. The valved tube has the same effect. The dispute is over whether it makes it easier. Jonathan
