  1. Bending is very common. Is it just the throttle pedal, or would you like the notes on adjusting all of the pedals? Jonathan PS: I couldn't get enough bend on mine and it currently has a mahogany section bolted on top. That will stay there until I take up the offer of one of the two kind Members who offered a metalliurgic solution.
  2. ... after a few incidents in 3 years, particularly when reversed into by a mini cab... How about a proximity warning system that warns the other driver? Jonathan
  3. Nice work. Good to see the chosen solution. Jonathan
  4. Isn't that taking "4 post" lift slightly too literally? ;-) Jonathan
  5. What were the contact points in that recent forklift exploit? Jonathan
  6. I’m thinking changing wheels en route to Tuscany this summer. There's a lot of helpful people out there... do you know where you'd like to do this? Jonathan
  7. There's a different location suggested in this Low Flying article. I have no idea of the advantages and disadvantages. Jonathan
  8. How about a giant jig like a pair of dividers with legs that reach down to touch the reference points? Adjust it to just touch then take it somewhere cool to measure. Jonathan
  9. If I knew that the fault were in the starter or solenoid I'd do the same as SM25T. And you'll know that it would fit. The battery voltage is fine & the wiring is all ok so I think the solenoid is at fault. How many of the following have you done so far: Topped up the battery if it can be. Measured the battery voltage at rest, minimum while cranking, and at 3.000 rpm Checked all the relevant wiring and connections including earths, and master switch if fitted. Inspect, wiggle, disconnect, clean. Read revilla's recent demystifying monograph. Jumped a good feed to the solenoid? Jonathan
  10. Edited: Crossed with CycleSi's offer. If I couldn't find one at home I'd do the same as SM25T. Jonathan PS: Just the one? The archives suggest that it varies, and that some have two or three screws per knob.
  11. Thanks for the update. Jonathan
  12. ...am a tad concerned about the noise level for track days. NB: It's now possible to measure sound level with an app on a smart 'phone. Many scrutineers at circuits are enthusiasts and will run a static check for nonparticipants. It's probably wise to wait for the morning rush to subside.Jonathan
  13. Do you already have the appropriate Assembly Guide? Jonathan
  14. Divert via Llangollen, where Kenrick Motors are? Exemplary thinking and helpfulness. Well done. Jonathan
  15. Put all the locking nuts on one wheel? Jonathan
  16. I'd ask Oxted/ Thundersport if they can modify the one you have. They're notoriously helpful. NB Club discount. Jonathan
  17. Could you add a photo showing the problem? Jonathan
  18. You can do that inline from Flickr: Jonathan
  19. How many of us have a second language half as good as your "broken English"? :-) Jonathan
  20. Regin is describing the Coulomb model of frictional forces. I have no idea how closely it is followed by real pads and discs. (And those of you who have just spent a fortune on wider tyres needn't worry: their grip is nowhere near independent of contact area.) The description above also assumes that coefficient of friction is constant. In the real world it changes with temperature, and that change might depend on the size of the pad.Shirley ... thus moving outwards the caliper will add to the arm and therefor result in a bigger momentum. "Moment" rather than "momentum".
  21. Reach out to UM but they are not answering emails (don't even have a phone number) which seems to be the general scheme of things in the UK. I am trying to work with three vendors for different parts and its like getting blood from a stone to get a response from any of them. Not saying all companies in the UK are like that (Darren over at at Caterham has been outstanding answering my endless questions) but it is really frustrating trying to get a response. Absolutely infuriating, and generally unnecessary... but is the UK any different to anywhere else? Discussion of standards of service: all contributions welcome.
  22. I have since noticed a curved groove melted into the body skin just above the chassis rail and melted aluminium on no.3 pipe, but the clearance, when observed cold, is still there. How about measuring the manifold cold and hot? Jonathan
  23. My most recent email to Darren bounced. Jonathan PS: You can now "Ask an Expert" from any parts item... and subsequent conversation doesn't have to stay on topic...
  24. What type of speedometer: mechanical off the gearbox, electronic off the gearbox or electronic off a wheel? What type of instrument... can you add a photo? Instrument repair thread with the specialists, all of whom seem to have happy customers. Jonathan
