    Paint

Does anyone on here have a Porsche Birch green painted 7? It looks great (IMHO) on a 911, but would love to see it on a 7 before I pull the trigger on that paint. If no-one comes up with one... there have been some successful BlatChat Photoshopping exercises along the same lines... So Im back to being torn between a Hunter Green and a Bright Yellow Ditto Jonathan PS: Other image manipulation software is available. :-)
  2. But reliably coming on when it does... except too hot? Does it come on immediately and consistently when you short the wires at the sensor? Have you got a multimeter and a wiring diagram? Jonathan
  3. I'm not familiar with that type. Have you checked the archives? Jonathan
  4. Welcome. Several Members have used a switch between the water and oil temperature senders to the existing gauge: would that be an alternative for you? Have you already got the appropriate wiring diagram? Let me know if you'd like a copy. Jonathan
  5. ... you can work it out by jacking the car and counting turns on propshaft and wheel, its also different for LSD Or by measuring the engine speed and the road speed eg by GPS as recently discussed. You can measure the gear ratios the same way. I got this wrong before about deducing the presence of an LSD but I don't think that affects this method of measuring the final drive ratio if you fix one wheel and count the ratio of turns and remember the factor of 2... Jonathan
  6. Which company? Jonathan
  7. That's what I used and it worked fine for doing a few into fabric. http://www.softbitsshop.co.uk/ekmps/shops/juddltd/images/press-stud-tool-420-p.png £5.25. But IIRC my wind deflectors had screwed-on plates that fitted the hinge halves on the stanchions... Jonathan
  8. Well done. My bushes went (and stayed) home easily in the original build but took several attempts when I changed the upper column and wheel. And now there's some play... Any tricks that made a difference the time that it was successful? Jonathan
  9. Anywhere else I can source a suitable temp gauge? Gauge or sensor? ... The online stock returned by the Caterham Parts site isn't always reliable. Jonathan
  10. Two points that should have been in my first response: You can measure gearbox ratios as well as final drive ratio by jacking up or by GPS. But the former's going to require turning the engaged engine... Calculators that will do the sums for the effects of changes are widely available, both online and as downloadable spreadsheets. (I mention the latter because there's one somewhere with common Caterham ratios already included.) Good ones also include the fractional speed drop on changing up, as described by david2 above. I think that's a very convenient metric for thinking about options.Jonathan
  11. DVA on types of belts and tensioners. Jonathan
  12. You can measure the final drive ratio by: 1 Jacking the car up and measuring the ratio of prop shaft turns to drive shaft turns, details available on request, or 2 Measuring the road speed (eg with GPS) at a known engine speed at a known gearbox ratio with known tyre circumference, ditto. ... Which gearbox do you have? ... Road, track or both? What are your current thoughts about: The engine speed and noise when cruising? The usefulness of first gear?Jonathan
  13. I can't see anything in the contemporaneous Assembly Guide. Let me know if your friend would like a copy. Jonathan
  14. I thought that for Sevens it was a ratchet strap round the rollbar! ;- Jonathan

    Thanks Jonathan
  16. :- Please send me a Private Mail with your email address and details of the Seven: year, model etc. Jonathan
  17. If I were using *adhesive only I'd: Remove the powdercoat from the stay. Make a long sausage roll rather than a sandwich or "blob".Jonathan * As I did.
  18. Welcome. Not too difficult, but sometimes there's a problem getting the bushes into the right position. As always when removing a steering wheel don't pull it towards your face without considering what's going to happen when it suddenly makes a high-speed bid for freedom. Have you got the appropriate Assembly Guide: let me know if not. Jonathan PS: Does that change require moving the horn button?

    Tyres

I'm confused. Please could someone write a brief overview of the different current Nankang tyres of interest to Sevens. Thanks Jonathan
  20. Welcome, Pete. What Delic says + wait till the morning rush is over. Apps on smart 'phones can measure sound levels, and allow you to compare your car with others.Jonathan
  21. Yes I see a few posts (3 pages on the first look) and it did not help due to the wide number of opinions Multi-author technical wikis will help with a lot of our knowledge management problems but will be especially beneficial when there are different views because they'll all be in one place, among other reasons. Jonathan
  22. One thing that maybe unique to me is being in Florida and the daily temp in the summer is north of 96 degrees and the wings being Black Carbon I figure the bond will get kinda warm baking in the sun for 8 hours a day so I need one that is not going to be susceptible to heat (softening). "96 degrees" ≅ 36°C. The problems of applying in low temperature are well-known but I don't think that's come up before. From the product guide for Sikaflex 221: Thermal resistance (CQP 513-1): 90°C Short term 1 day: 120°C 1 hour: 140°C. Service temperature: -40 to +90 °C, Jonathan PS: And cold isn't only a problem when applying: Glass transition temperature (CQP 509 -1/ ISO 4663): -45°C approx.
  23. Crossed with #2. SNAP! Lubrication + clean the inside face + the trick with the socket and the washer and the threaded rod or big bolt? Jonathan
