  1. Any more recent experiences, or reputable reviews? Thanks Jonathan
  2. Thanks. This is what I found in 2016. Jonathan
  3. Great write-up. 'Phone apps can perform very well: what hardware and software were you using, please? Jonathan
  4. I'm not sure what's currently happening... Main switch on 2: Dip switch up: ??? Dip switch down: side lights only. And that's consistent between two different dip switches? And the connections at the dip switch are good, and the wiring colours at the switch match the diagram? Do you have a multimeter? First I'd check continuity through both the old and new dip switches switches in both positions 1 and 2 with the wires disconnected. If that's good it gets interesting. Jonathan
  5. I'd encourage everyone to use laminated glass in windscreens, and even more so if you don't have additional protection for your eyes. Jonathan
  6. Well that's quite remarkable, all 4 products tested resulted in a -2% drop in power! It isn't surprising. There are two ways in which a higher octane fuel can increase usable power: It can allow the engine to run in a condition that would otherwise invoke unwanted detonation. But it isn't really increasing the power output. At the design stage or with engineering changes it can allow a higher compression ratio without unwanted detonation. The higher ratio allows higher thermodynamic efficiency. That can genuinely increase power output. But if 1 doesn't apply and the additive delivers less heat of combustion than the displaced original fuel then less power would be expected. With automated knock detection the power can also be reduced because of the response of eg changing the timing. Jonathan PS: Were the quoted tests capable of detecting a 2% change?
  7. You've posted this twice, that happens to all of us sometimes. Andrew has responded to the other post, and I suggest we all do the same. Jonathan
  8. I would be very grateful if you could send me the details on the telltale light method of setting the wheel speed sensor (I used a go/nogo gauge that I made)... phatcat's suggested procedure. (I suspect you're using the same readings.) Jonathan
  9. Now what to do with the wiring, fit bullet connectors? "Best way to connect screen wiring for removal" but of course it depends on how often it's going off and on. Jonathan
  10. My oil temp sender is in the dry sump tank and was fitted by Caterham so assumed to be the standard temp sender that they sell. Even if it's the standard unit do you know that the resistance range matches your instrument (or the sensor in the water system)? That could be checked either from the spec/ part number or experimentally. Jonathan
  11. I understand SV’s and CSR’s are effectively the same size cars but would be prudent to check dimensions with the seller. NOMINATIVE DETERMINISM! :-) Jonathan
  12. Definitely possible to DIY: there are some useful hints in the archives. IIRC the only recent problem was with a seal that turned out to be the wrong thickness. And some sources: presumably you want a heated replacement? Jonathan
  13. Driven from a rear wheel? Fuse OK? Have you got the Workshop Notice on modifying the wiring? I also replaced the sensor and set up the clearance.. but is still does not work. Was that using the telltale light or the gap alone? Jonathan
  14. Must admit I'm having trouble with the latest incarnation of the Blatchat search engine... What terms and restrictions would you like in the search? Jonathan
  15. Lots of discussions of the 4AGE engine, and it looks as if a few have been fitted. Jonathan PS: 4A taxonomy on Wikipedia.
  16. ... but will have to pay labour as my warranty only covers parts, and it needs to be done not left till 1st service. Not happy view I discovered the leak on the day I picked it up and pretty sure it must have been there already, they had done 44 miles in the car. The warranty doesn't remove your rights under statute law. Jonathan
  17. 2050957 ??? If anyone can say which Ford model would use the same that could be checked on their eBay site. Jonathan
  18. I had some "top hat" spacers made when I replaced my factory harness with one from Titon with thicker plates. I'd guess they couldn't take two plates, but if you let me know the combined thickness I'll check. (I couldn't find a commercial supplier.) Jonathan
  19. To use the existing socket: Check that it's always connected to the battery and doesn't depend on the ignition switch!I don't know if there's a proprietary adaptor for your Optimate charger. If there is your choice is between using that or getting a new plug and wiring that onto your lead.Jonathan PS: Looks as if I'm wrong about unpowered immobilisers needing to be reset... but I'd still want to know that I could reset it before disconnecting.
  20. EDITED: See post #7 below. It might not need resetting. ... It will probably need resetting. What sort of immobiliser and do you have the instructions for resetting? I'd have a practice run at resetting before disconnecting the battery. Sequences are then: DisarmDisconnect batteryStart workand Complete workReconnect batteryReset immobiliserTest immobiliser. If you don't know which type it is add a description or photo here and the collective knowledge should be able to help. Not sure what you mean by "easy connectors"... most of us do that by adding a "cigar lighter" socket in the cockpit which is then used both for the charger and for accessories. Jonathan PS: If you're modifying the battery connections have you got shrouds that insulate the terminals and connections?
  21. I'd search like this: https://www.google.com/search?q=site:lotus7.club+clutch+bleed+sigmahttps://www.google.com/search?q=site:lotus7.club+clutch+fluid+sigmaDo those return anything more useful? Jonathan
  22. The various sizes and Roger King's comments. Jonathan
  23. The current Assembly Guide and Handbook can be downloaded from the Caterham site. You need to register but there's no charge. If you can't find what you want or need anything earlier please send me a Private Message with your email address. Jonathan PS: Site seems to be down.
  24. Screwfix, Cheltenham. Tool Station, Cheltenham. You can check stock online. Jonathan PS: NB Club discount at Halfords.
  25. Thanks. (I misunderstood and thought you had bought a new sensor and then discovered the fault.) Jonathan
