  1. Any recent work or has anything else changed recently? All other instruments working normally? Do you have a multimeter and the *appropriate wiring diagram? Jonathan * Let me know if you'd like one.
  2. I pasted text into each cell. i don't know if there's a way of importing tabulated text. For your purposes I'd consider: Managing the table in whatever you likeExporting it as a PDFUploading that to the forum.Jonathan
  3. What type of alternator, and what wires are attached? What ECU? ... The battery readout dropped to about 11v just switching the ignition on ? As revilla says. What was the minimum voltage during cranking? ... Once started the Alternator need around 2000 revs before it actually kicked in? What's the voltage at immediate idle, at 3,000 rpm, and at subsequent idle? ... Does your charging warning light work? Jonathan
  4. What do you want to isolate? And does it need to meet any regulations? Jonathan
  5. @jk wondering if this editor allows us to use tables. Table creation tool: Trying that: 1those that belong to the Emperor2embalmed ones3those that are trained4suckling pigs5mermaids6fabulous ones7stray dogs8those included in the present classification9those that tremble as if they were mad10innumerable ones11those drawn with a very fine camelhair brush12others13those that have just broken a flower vase14those that from a long way off look like flies That seems to work. I haven't experimented with editing an existing table. Jonathan
  6. I am probably rehashing a previous post, but the search engine turned up zilch. How did you search? I suggest something like: https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Alotus7.club+front+bearings+part ... Call Chris at Redline. Always a good tactic. Jonathan
  7. Seconded, and not only because of the help he's just given me personally. Special edition T shirt? Engraved 3/8" extra long wobble bar? :-) Jonathan
  8. Some close matches from the archives. Jonathan
  9. From Shaun's bolt list: From the Assembly Guide: but from the same document: ??? If yours looks 1/2" too long it should probably be 1/2" UNF x 5". Jonathan
  10. Edited: Crossed with Geoff's. I'm not sure what you mean by "service": Remove it and take it somewhere (and both types can often be repaired locally rather than replaced) regardless of how it's working?Replace it blind? But it feels sensible to: Know what you've got fitted.Think about how you'd get it repaired or replaced if it failed. For the starter occasionally check what the lowest voltage is during cranking so that you can easily detect deterioration or failure. And for the charging side ditto at 3,000 rpm.Jonathan PS: In fact the whole car is practically a consumable given the passage of enough years. But for rubber bits pre-emptive action seems sensible. And timing belts. And sump foam where present.
  11. Sorry about the trip. Hope it's all working as soon as possible. Jonathan
  12. And of course it was. Thanks again. Bought from Rimmer Bros, delivered by first class post two working days later and now fitted. Caterham Parts replied to say that they only supply it in this head gasket set, not by itself. Jonathan
  13. I have about 12.5 to 13 volts; battery warning came on at 11.5 volts. So it has gone up. Watching the Stack volts display it seems to wobble between battery alone and alternator - but no sign of 14.2 volts. Battery voltage 13.1 volts, start engine, drops to 12 something - i'e no alternator worky. All of those measurements using the Stack voltmeter? Do you have a multimeter that you can use to test voltage across the battery terminals?Does it agree? Is the warning light now on all the time at rest and regardless of the speed that the engine is running? What was the voltage across the battery terminals at 3,000 rpm the last time that you tested it before this episode?I had a quick look and cannot see any obviously loose wires, I gave the two wires to the aternator connects a tug, they seem firm. I'd do the same for all of the wires at the battery terminals and the earths to the engine block etc: inspect, wiggle, disconnect, clean and reconnect. What sort of battery, how old and is it the sort that can be topped up? With a jump start off another vehicle and both batteries fully charged I would guess that you can run 15 km on ignition and fuel pump and other electrics only as needed for safety, but work out in advance what you'll do if it dies on the way. Good luck Jonathan
  14. Imperial (from Shaun's bolt list): Metric (from fastgrandad's Fastener Packs): Jonathan
  15. The difference is palpable even in day light plus the LEDs react much quicker when on the brake pedal. Yes. As above. Did not bother with indicators as I think they are sufficient as they will get noticed when flashing. This one bothers me. The physical separation of the factory turn indicator is poor (see GJT's improvement in #12 above) and making the tail and brake lights brighter while keeping the indicators the same could worsen the reaction time or cause them not to be noticed. Has anyone else looked for this explicitly? Videos? Probably needs to be done both at day and night. Jonathan
  16. ... as you can see the activation/deactivation time is reduced and brighter. That's usually thought to be around 200 ms quicker... but TTBOMK no-one's ever posted anything similar. Thanks. Of course until we have car to car communication it's the reaction time that matters, and it has been measured: "Reaction times to neon, LED, and fast incandescent brake lamps". Jonathan
  17. Looks like I was wrong about the type of speedo. Sorry. Is there a convenient description of which Sevens are likely to have which type, perhaps by year and model? Jonathan
  18. What's the smart way to provide electrical and weather protection over that type of connection? Jonathan
  19. Burton Power? And they show Ford part numbers. Jonathan
  20. Agreed. It's great to have sources, part numbers and prices. Thanks Jonathan
  21. 2nd gear is also longer than the standard 2nd and I would say that the rocket ratios are more evenly spaced out which IMHO makes changing up and down the gears more natural that the standard ratios. What's the full set of ratios, please? Thanks Jonathan
  22. Surprised no one has mentioned changing the diff ratio. I was waiting to hear what's currently fitted! :-) Jonathan
  23. Thanks, Sooty. Biggest issue is to eliminate parasitic loads Andrew Revill showed that these vary considerably. It would be good to measure and reports lots of them to identify common problems. I think that many are masked by the use of conditioning chargers. Jonathan
