  1. Differences: Browser.Using your original GIF with the old method I don't get asked to change the file size or told that it has been done.Jonathan
  2. My first guess is that the difference arises from the image compression and possibly other manipulation in the new method. Jonathan
  3. Safari, macOS, old upload method.
  4. Safari, macOS, new upload method.
  5. When I go to "My Profile"... "Forum Posts" it returns incorrect data. This is now working normally since this morning's maintenance. Jonathan
  6. This is what mine look like: That trick with the rope might work, but with a fair bit of anxiety about pulling off axis. A transverse hole through the moulded top would make it much easier to get a grip. Jonathan
  7. On my 1800 K they are very stiff and there's nowhere to get a good grip. I recently asked an expert if there is a trick: there isn't. Can you add a photo to show us what yours look like? Where is the best source for these currently? I'd start with Redline and Caterham Parts. Jonathan
  8. The factory clips and other methods. Jonathan
  9. Thanks. ... but it worked. The Founder would be proud! ;-) Jonathan
  10. Yes. When I go to "My Profile"... "Forum Posts" it returns incorrect data. Shaun knows, but I can't remember the title of the thread in which it was noted. Jonathan
  11. Have to say - bit of a Heath Robinson fix this but it worked. Could you add some photos of it fitted, please. Thanks Jonathan PS: I've often wondered about an array of the little fan units used in personal computers.
  12. How high do you want to get the sump off the ground? Rear wheels on the ground or on stands? Is there enough clearance between the wheel pockets and the handle for the front of the Seven? Jonathan

Last time I changed the plugs the one nearest the scuttle was a slight pink colour which I assume is coolant. Over 5,000 miles I haven’t topped up the coolant so it must be very slight. Any thoughts if this is the inlet manifold gasket fault and if so, was it easy to change (it looks awkward!)? As is obvious from above I wouldn't know! ;-( Do you have a plastic or metal inlet manifold? Jonathan
  14. Related question - my braided brake hose goes along the top of the de-dion tube, held in place by cable ties around the tube. A bit of a bodge! If I take out the de-dion as part of my strip/ rebuild, could the tube be drilled to take P clips and self tapping screws? Or is drilling holes in the de-dion not recommended? Would riveting P-clips be a way? "The original Caterham instruction with my car was to secure using cable ties, but later cars have holes pre drilled on top of de dion tube for P clips." Jonathan

And the answer. Firstly, thanks again to everyone who suggested what was going on. Here’s what the problem was, and how we fixed it. And I say "we" because I wasn't dumb enough to turn down Andrew's extraordinarily generous offer. And had the added pleasure of his company for a day. And now he knows his way around plastic inlet manifolds... ;-) The inlet manifold gasket was shot. The metal face wasn't eroded. The new gasket from Rimmer Bros worked fine. No additional sealant was used. Two diversions along the way. I’d previously been misled by where the drip occurred, see above. And after the new gasket was fitted… it continued! But that was due to a surprising amount of coolant sitting in the curved rib at the lower edge of the sump (corrected, see below). And a bit of hunting when it was all reassembled, which was cured by excising the damaged end of a vacuum hose. Could I have done that myself once the fault was known? I’d have needed a couple more tools and an awful lot of remote handholding. Jonathan PS: The test drive was fun. Took a load of stuff to the recycling centre. Temperature fine. No drips. And then on the way home the temperature gauge dropped off the low end of the scale… loose connection on the sender! :-)
  16. Types of fixing. I think that CBS carry three types: holes for self-tapping screws, threaded stud, and prongs and plates, but I'm not sure about the last. Jonathan
