  1. ... black fob with red end which has 5 electrical connectors. Please can someone identify the type of immobiliser. Thanks Jonathan
  2. Please confirm that the immobiliser is working as usual.Which wires are you wiggling that helps?Have good look at and play with all of the wires and connections to and at the starter and the battery including the earths. If possible wiggle, disconnect, clean, reconnect. How do you know that battery is good rather than marginal? Could you jump from another vehicle when it clicks rather than cranking? Can you get your hands on a multimeter?Jonathan
  3. Is anyone using the Hi-Spec "SVA Ultralite 2" calipers as replacements for the Sierra rears on a De Dion? Full archive search, about 34 hits. Jonathan
  4. ... which 1st gear ratio do people like? There is a choice between 2.29 and 2.48. The 2.29 seems very long to me, but it would probably bring 1st into use on slow corners. I would plan to use a 3.92 final-drive, so I guess I should crunch the numbers with the different ratios... I don't think that I've seen anyone recommend the stock first in the five speed box over something longer. I'd change it if the gearbox ever had any work done. Jonathan
  5. In the vast number of posts and threads on the subject I've seen DIY thoughts on these lines, but possibly not the factory bit! Jonathan
  6. Caterham Parts clearance: "Footbox cold air inlet". Jonathan
  7. How are we doing? If you'd like to compare clutch pedal action and force I suggest telling us where you are... there are some very helpful Members around. You might be able to try several Sevens at an Area Meeting. Most of the parts come from elsewhere but there are two useful sources of information as well as the parts: Caterham Parts and Redline. And would you like that Assembly Guide? Jonathan
  8. Vast amounts in the archives, but unfortunately no Guide yet TTBOMK. You need to think about: Bleed points, including additional bleed T-piece, plastic or metalJackingMassaging hoses and feeling for temperature Additional hole in thermostat.Jonathan
  9. What Andrew says. And the preset gap was right for the engine. Jonathan
  10. I trawled the advice for my 1998 K 1800 nonVVC earlier this year and bought: NGK Spark Plug BCPR7ES (3330) Jonathan
  11. That's all that's needed! :-) Jonathan
  12. Welcome. Which gearbox? And do you already have an Assembly Guide? Jonathan
  13. Clearly there is an absence of coolant, which will need replacing... That's what I'd do. Are you familiar with the joys and sorrows of filling and bleeding K-engined Sevens? Jonathan
  14. How often should they be replaced. I use James Whiting's schedule, but it's very similar to Shaun's. I'd replace rather than clean when it gets ragged or bits drop off during cleaning. Jonathan
  15. I used the PiperCross kit and was very happy with it. My filter was very clean and only used half the kit. Jonathan PS: But they're aerosols, and if someone could say what sort of oil needs to be applied I might do it differently now.
  16. The earliest Assembly Guide I have that mentions wide track front suspension has the following. NB Same recommendations as for narrow track. Jonathan
  17. I'd set the front suspension up as per the original set up but have bump steer which makes the car very twitchy. Did the washers go back as documented or where they actually were before? Jonathan
  18. You can't delete that post/ thread. But you can change the Subject and remove the contents. Jonathan
  19. Factory settings, but it doesn't mention the widetrack front. And some related discussion. Jonathan PS: You're probably about to get advice about adding corner weighting etc.
  20. Well said. I only understand a bit, but it doesn't decrease the enjoyment. Jonathan
  21. PS: Duplicate post. I suggest you amend the other so that all of the suggestions come here. Jonathan
  22. I've got those in the accumulated Assembly Guides. What model and year? Jonathan
  23. I suggest the following, and then please report back; Coolant level and appearance.Engine oil level and appearanceAny signs of coolant anywhere under the bonnet or on the floor?Expansion tank cap: is it it still there and is it tight?Hoses external appearance and wiggle by hand for tightness of joins.Radiator external appearanceFan blades external appearance.Jonathan (Crossed with Phil's)
  24. Lately my oil temperature has been running very high 100 to a 110 on normal road driving after about 20 miles ,my water temperature stays normal. Is the oil temperature going up and down nicely when the engine warms and cools... it's not stuck up at that high reading? Jonathan
