  1. ... a 94 crossflow Caterham... Have fun. If you'd like a copy of the Assembly Guide please send me a Private Message with your email address. Jonathan
  2. Hard to pinpoint exactly where it's coming from. I recommend a stethoscope. Jonathan
  3. Doh, I'd missed it! Sorry Jonathan
  4. Have you got the URL, please, Phil? Thanks Jonathan
  5. Well done. I took the opportunity with the wiper blades off to trim the bottom edge (looked at when the wipers go fully to the passenger side) of the blades such that they didn't hit the windscreen surround whilst also having the right parked position. Yes. I took the finish off a surround by not doing that with the top end of the wipers. It's also worth checking that they clear the edge of the hood. Jonathan
  6. "It's coming from somewhere in the boot." Jonathan
  7. As above, recording please. How about making or buying a stethoscope to help localise the source? And can you reduce the sound by holding eg a piece of wood against likely sources? Jonathan
  8. If it happened to me I'd be very relieved to know that there are experts who will handle the repair and help with the administration and are recommended by Members. Hope you're back on the road soon... any upgrades in mind? Jonathan
  9. Do you know if that's only on the roofs with easy access zips? I have a SFBS half-hood without zips: no centre seam. Jonathan
  10. Separate the motor and LED by wiring the switches to a relay and power just the the fan from the relay. Sounds good to me. Jonathan
  11. Not sure about that "original ECU"? Is that the Lucas transistorised ignition? Jonathan
  12. Two mentions in the archives. https://www.lotus7.club/comment/2208568#comment-2208568https://www.lotus7.club/forum/techtalk/tyre-recommendations-14-wheelsJonathan
  13. As Ian says. Check all of your battery and engine and instrument earths: inspect, wiggle, disconnect, clean, reconnect. Speedo driven off the rear wheel? Has it ever blown any fuses? Can you make the fault occur at will in the garage? Do you have a multimeter and an appropriate wiring diagram? Jonathan
  14. ... also does anyone have a fix for the speedo needle flapping around madly, the rev counter is nice and smooth but the speedo seems very loose. Original mechanical drive from the gearbox? Jonathan
  15. I have the Assembly Guides for 1992 and 1996, both of which cover Vauxhall engines with carburettors. Please send me a Private Message with your email address and details of the Seven. Jonathan
  16. If it's already an LED and it's DC then the current is going in the same direction through the lamp when the fan is rammed as when it's operating normally. Jonathan PS: That doesn't mean that a fix to the circuit other than an inline diode won't work.
  17. Is it necessary to know the resistance of the lamp and the output voltage of the fan motor when it's being rammed? You can get the former by identifying it and the latter by measurement with some fly leads to a multimeter. But some expert might just know... Jonathan PS: The diode could be an LED replacing the current lamp.
  18. ... although the pressure cap looks OK, I have a feeling it's not seating properly and allowing pressure to escape. Insufficient back pressure in the overflow is allowing too much fluid to accumulate there and eventually it fills up. As in #4 I'm suspicious of the cap. Buy or borrow a good one to check? Jonathan
  19. From the Assembly Guide: Jonathan
  20. You've got five bands: could you add where the bigger gap is between them. Jonathan
  21. Have you got a model name or number or similar? Or the old resistor? Jonathan
  22. Great to see the progress, Phil. Jonathan PS:
  23. ... so the long 1st and 5th choices... The taller first sounds very sensible, as discussed above. I'd imagine that with that amount of power that you won't have any shortage with the higher top... but have you checked the engine speed at some relevant cruising speeds, and the gap between 4th and 5th? Jonathan
  24. As above. Doesn't seem to be have been reported more often with Volvos or V70s than with any other vehicle. Jonathan
  25. Jonathan Kay

    Handbrake

Thanks, both. I'll do just that. Jonathan
