  1. Sounds right to me. Jonathan PS: Nyloc?
  2. Please check your Private Message inbox. Jonathan
  3. If anyone is making something similar how about drilling the hole in the pedal shaft at a right angle to that so that the fastener goes fore-aft rather than left-right and doesn't go near the shaft? The cable would then have to pass through or over one half rather than between the halves. Jonathan
  4. I have no objection to the concept. The problem is advocating the implementation before we know that such a program would do more good than harm. Or the details of how the programme would operate. Yes, there will be advances that could swing the argument. And there are encouraging signs in both detection and treatment. And there's the big UK trial as above. The appropriate rôle of government is to make sure there is a body such as the National Screening Committee that keeps this under review. And there already is and they already are. Jonathan
  5. Same plea as always. Please can we use Signal rather than WhatsApp. The security model is better and WhatsApp is owned by Meta/Facebook which refuses to regulate its behaviour appropriately. Jonathan
  6. That's a great summary, and an excellent habit. Thankyou. Discussion here, including my reasons for not signing it: Jonathan
  7. Yes, the aerial is pink and only connected at one end. Jonathan
  8. I've got the 1995 documentation including wiring diagrams. Please let me know if you'd like it. Jonathan
  9. Would you like the old text-rich Assembly Guide? And have you found the register of equipment for loan? Jonathan
  10. That looks like a Lucas 5AS immobiliser; https://andrewrevill.co.uk/5ASCloningPart1.htm ... Does the immobiliser work as it should? And if it does could that be a feed to a siren or similar that isn't there any more?? Jonathan PS: Have you already got the relevant wiring diagrams?
  11. What BigCol says. For concentrated solutions there's then the question of what water to use. I'm not aware of any adverse effects from using UK domestic water, no matter how hard or soft. And there's a safety point. Antifreeze containing ethylene glycol is sweet and brightly coloured... and poisonous. Please store it where children can't get at it. And if you dilute it be very careful with the leftover solution: a soft drink bottle may be convenient but it isn't a good idea. Jonathan ( ex chemical pathologist)
  12. Well done. Thanks for adding the outcome. Jonathan
  13. Thanks for adding the outcome, and it's good to hear that it's working. I was about to suggest axial loading on the right-angle drive as all of the bits seemed OK but they didn't work when put together. But it was a busy weekend. Have fun Jonathan
  14. Is it currently in use? Road or track? And if so what is the water temperature doing in various conditions? Previous discussions. Jonathan
  15. At the end of the post-build inspection I got "OK". I've never been prouder of any achievement with an inanimate object. Jonathan
  16. Feels as if it needs someone to write a Guide... Jonathan
  17. From what we can see in the photo I'd agree. Would an additional brace or fillet get in the way of the seat padding or surface? Jonathan
  18. And of course the Web changed everything. If anyone doesn't know about the Assembly Guides: Caterham now provide the "IKEA"/ pictorial style Assembly Guide and the Owner's Handbook, and these can be downloaded from their site. I have a large collection of the old style text-heavy Assembly Guides, and Owner's Handbooks, wiring diagrams, amendments, Workshop Notices etc and they're all available free to all Members. Please send me a Private Message if you want anything. For new builders I strongly recommend having both types of Assembly Guide. And a group of us are looking at how to improve the availability of technical information to Members, so please let us know if you have any suggestions. Jonathan
  19. NB date. I've just received from the Club notice of the petition: Enough is enough. The time for action is now. Sign our petition calling for prostate cancer screening to be a national priority. It doesn't include or link to the evidence for or against screening asymptomatic men. This is unfortunate as it is not at all clear that screening would do more good than harm. Here are the current statements on screening from the National Screening Committee and Cancer Research UK: And here's some of the recent research, summarised by Prostate Cancer UK. And here's the new UK trial: "Biggest prostate cancer screening trial in decades to start in UK". I don't think that it's helpful to politicise this and I won't be signing this petition. Jonathan (I spent a lot of my career designing, implementing and evaluating screening programmes, but not this one.)
  20. I'm really appreciating the high-resolution images in TechTalk. (It was possible on the old website but took a bit more work.) Jonathan
  21. What's the length of engaged thread? Jonathan
  22. We moved house and the Seven had to be stored elsewhere for six months. My wife wanted to ask the Club if someone would come and take it apart and put it into cardboard boxes so that I could have the pleasure of building it again. Jonathan
  23. You've got the nut/washer trick, IIRC someone ground the nose down, and here's a report that the Stanley works: And that's currently my front-runner. Jonathan
