  1. What's the model, engine and year? Is the speedometer driven off the gearbox or rear wheel? Guide to Speedometers. Do you have the relevant wiring diagrams? And a multimeter? And if it comes to that it might be repairable: Speedometer and Instrument Repairs. Jonathan
  2. Only done the brakes. I now use a Gunson Eezibleed and a spare wheel as reservoir on top and a one-way valve at the bottom. And no helper. But I'm interested in those "speed bleeders" that have recently been discussed: Jonathan PS: Why start a new thread? We can't tell what you've found already...
  3. What did you choose? And Before and After photos, please. Jonathan
  4. Discussion from 2010: and full search of the archives. Jonathan
  5. 1800 K used on road and (now very occasional) track sessions. Standard cooling system 82°C thermostat (on the advice of RatRace) Sender to the gauge replaced Fan switch replaced, now 95°C Comma G30 coolant Runs at indicated 80°C, and fan brings it smartly back to that when needed But cooler than that when cruising on cold days. I think about blanking off part of the radiator but I haven't got a round tuit. Jonathan
  6. Previous discussions have converged on this, which appears under several brand names. I can't remember anyone testing for accuracy themselves. But the point has been made that it's consistency that matters, because for track work you'll be using other forms of assessment of what's right. Jonathan
  7. I'd definitely ditch the foam and fit a holey gasket. (And that's also the case whatever the state of the foam.) IIRC the pick-up unscrews from the underside of the block. I'd take it off in order to be sure that it's decrudded. Jonathan
  8. I'd try a contact adhesive. Is there enough access to brush that on? How about roughing up the "dusty" surface with a scourer? Jonathan
  9. It might be repairable: and a recent success with a speedometer at JDO: Jonathan
  10. You can also test thermostats by dunking them in jugs of hot and cold water. And in situ by feeling hoses. Jonathan PS: I'd be very interested in experiences with remote thermometers and probes on multimeters etc. They could make it much quicker to solve a lot of problems...
  11. There's a lot on this in the archives. But I can't work out what's relevant because I don't know the significance of it being wet or dry sump... Jonathan
  12. I'd include relevant relays and the indicator timer/relay in the possibilities. Start by pulling them and looking for evidence of overheating on the relay and the base. Jonathan
  13. And, because of that important discussion elsewhere about tinnitus: a group test of apps for frequency analysis, but of course much of it is about audio production rather than limits at tracks or protection of hearing. Jonathan
  14. Same review from 2014 but with updates from 2016 and 2018. The testers have produced their own app for industrial exposure testing: NIOSH Sound Level Meter App. ... NB: iOS only because they found the variability of Android devices to be too high. Jonathan
  15. Sorry, thought I'd included the link: https://www.smiths-instruments.co.uk/products/sender-units-temperature-senders/ Jonathan
  16. 1158 to 44 Ω, according to Caerbont. Jonathan
  17. Does the indicated temperature come down as soon as the fan cuts in? Jonathan
  18. Looks too high to me. Check that the fan comes on reliably by shorting out the switch by hand. Where is the switch? And is the system full of coolant? Jonathan
  19. Check that all relevant earths are good. Then check again. The fog light probably only comes on with dipped headlamps. The hazard light switch is notorious for internal failure. (A better circuit is available, but I wouldn't change anything until it's working as in the factory diagram.) ... A smartphone can be convenient when looking behind an (unexposed) dash. Jonathan
  20. 1 I have the factory wiring diagrams (and some amendments). Please send me a Private Message with your email address. 2 Caterham usually followed the "standard" British wiring colours. 3 Do you have a multimeter? Jonathan
  21. I have the most common layouts of fuses and layouts for Duratecs and the factory wiring diagrams. Please send me a Private Message with your email address. Jonathan
  22. Thankyou for raising this. Many of us call these headrests but of course they're restraints to prevent overextension of the neck in impacts. Sharing solutions sounds smart. Jonathan
