  1. Do you know the nut trick if the nose of the gun won't go in far enough? Jonathan
  2. I don't think that there's a special type. Suggestions of "M4" and "No 6" countersunk in the archives. Jonathan
  3. Does it make easier in practice to add in the extra fuel for acceleration in a new mode while leaving the old mode running? Can that fuel system maintain injection at the right pressure more consistently with several smaller squirts rather than a few big ones? Does the feed pressure drop at all under maximum rates of injection? (I think that's a different point from the characteristics of the mixture as its flow changes.) Jonathan
  4. If it turns into a relay usual offer of a staging post near J8 of the M40. Jonathan
  5. Why is nothing ever straightforward! Opinions vary: misdeeds in a previous life, alignment of heavenly bodies... How about so that the satisfaction on completion is even greater? Do you have enough access to reposition the strengthening piece? Jonathan
  6. Thundersport make shower caps, under Miscellaneous. NB Club discount. Jonathan
  7. Does anybody with an S2 or S3 also own a tape measure who could go out and measure? Where are you? Jonathan
  8. Going for the Chinese option as non of the UK places replied to my email. Do they know how to make a set for your Seven, or will you have you to specify exactly what's needed? I chose Classic Silicone Hoses over the other recommended suppliers because they communicated quickly by email. Next question is what clamp do you use for silicone? I've only got limited experience but my factory stainless screw drive clamps were in such good nick that I reused them. I smeared silicone grease on both surfaces and tightened the clamps incrementally after the engine was used and cooled the first few times. No leaks. Members with a lot more experience and whose judgement I trust use Mikalor clamps. Jonathan
  9. ... and how best to source when required. I'd talk to Redline. ... Fronts are/ were Girling Type 14, as used on the Spitfire. Rears are/ were as used on the Sierra. ... Apart from upgrades there has been discussion of using Golf rears in order to save mass. Jonathan
  10. That's pretty good, thanks. He's a bit woolly on "focus" and "hot spots". Jonathan
  11. Very interesting, thanks. So there must be some sort of intricate relay switch within the led lens that kills power to dipped when main is powered. I can only assume that it is some sort of regulation and maybe having both segments illuminated would be too bright and not comply with Euro E regulations, which confirms Doug’s comments above. Might be to keep the temperature down. Jonathan
  12. ... mine is coming out at an angle that even after the tube is Moved the tool used points towards the diff and the tube is in the way of say a breaking bar type tool. What tools are you trying? The most friendly might be a short stub of hex key in a flexible-headed spanner. NB For anyone using a ratchet spanner I strongly recommend the type that reverses when you slide a lever rather than the type that has to be removed and turned over... Jonathan
  13. Just had the email: Clearance. Jonathan
  14. ... but if it's not "sold into the EU" does it still have to comply? Before or after the end of the transition period, currently up to 31/12/2020? Jonathan
  15. The existing EU rules are written into all of the different legal systems within the UK and don't drop out because of Leaving. No-one knows what will happen to new ones. Jonathan
  16. What are the downsides in practice? Insurance? Plod? MOT? Roadside checks? I wouldn't expect problems at MoT testing with LEDs per se if the illumination looks right to the tester because: They don't fall foul fall of the inspection processes and rules. We haven't heard of any so far.Jonathan
  17. How do you measure prop shafts: between centres of the UJs? Too short IMO, I had the same problem when I bought my car... Anything special about the history of either of the cars? I wonder if its an S3 prop. Nice explanation. Jonathan
  18. There's a special place in hell for people who don't flush cut cable ties, leaving wiring looms like rose bushes. That was the only criticism at my post-build inspection. I now use the end cutting nippers from the wallet of posh pliers. Jonathan PS: When we're striking theatre sets everyone tries to save money by undoing the vast numbers of cable ties... until they've had enough and start cutting. But sometimes not everyone changes at the same time ... :-)
  19. Thanks for the photos. Jonathan PS: TTBOMK Dave Gemzoe's are £35/ pair and E marked.
  20. That's good to hear.:-) One common method is to fill it with liquid water. (I think that I saw steam used in a TV programme recently.) Jonathan
  21. The first step I think should be to drill out and replace the blind rivnuts... Is the tank drained and are the fumes flushed out? Jonathan
  22. "Silicon Hoses Com in Gloucester" is probably https://www.siliconhoses.com. Jonathan PS: Silicone comes out as Silicon pretty frequently. But I'm staggered to see it wrong in company literature and their web address, email etc.
  23. The standards for rubber that can tolerate the ethanol concentration of modern petrol have been out there for a few decades. So anything approved for purpose from a reputable vendor should be OK. (I looked up the relevant ASTM standards once and they should be in the archives.) Jonathan
