  1. And lots of others: https://www.lotus7.club/forum/chitchat/hpc-stripdown-and-rebuild?page=3 https://www.lotus7.club/comment/2106485#comment-2106485 As well as wheel dollies you can buy (or make) wheeled stands for the whole car. That's quite tempting. Jonathan
  2. If it does come back to working on the gearbox sender you can increase the lateral clearance by slackening the gearbox mount (and possibly engine mounts) and shoving. Jonathan
  3. There’s sometimes a screw in each lower rear corner. Jonathan
  4. "Note that the switch turns OFF when the plunger is pressed in (its rest position). When you apply the brakes, the tab on the piston rod moves rearwards, releasing the plunger and turning the switch ON." I'd missed this. I suggest testing the continuity through the switch with the plunger fully released, if you haven't done that already. Jonathan
  5. No. A direct connection (short) between the input and output wires at the switch. That makes the switch irrelevant. And (with the ignition ON) the brake lights should come on. And if they don't there's a fault somewhere else. Edited, crossed post with SM25T's. You can connect across the switch terminals if both wires are still connected to them. Otherwise connect between the wires. Jonathan
  6. Thanks for that, John. I didn't have one in front of me, obviously. Shorting around the switch would be a very smart move. Jonathan
  7. Thanks for the extra information. Private Message sent. Jonathan
  8. You'll only need a couple of functions of the multimeter: checking for whether a point of interest is live compared to a good earth, and checking for continuity of a circuit. Let's do this one step at a time, but do you have the wiring diagram for your Seven? Any recent work or other problems, and are all the other lights working? Jonathan
  9. "Would you expect the brake lights to come on when the 2 wires are connected with a probe and the brake pedal depressed (or not)?" Yes. But you don't need the probe for that: the brake lights should come on when you short the two sides of the switch together (with the ignition on). It sounds as if one side of the switch is live, but I don't know what your probe does, so if in any doubt check the brake light fuse. Any recent work or other problems, and are all the other lights working? Have you got a multimeter, and would you like a wiring diagram? Jonathan
  10. Is this for the Caterham six speed box or the SADEV sequential box used on the 420R? Thanks Jonathan
  11. Yes, no foam once that's done. But there may be different advice for serious track use. Full search of the archives. Jonathan
  12. Great: you've got a plan and you've got a fallback plan. : - ) I'd test the new sender and speedo as soon as you've got both, and probably with a quick rig before you do a lot of fitting. Jonathan
  13. "Reason I'm asking is I have effectively cactussed the gearbox feed and have just grabbed a new speedo from caerbont which is the later programmable type- and wouldn't it be so simple to use this feed? "However without tracing the wires all the way back up the car its pretty well impossible to tell where it goes or what it is feeding in its current format." That shouldn't be too hard with a diagram, the wiring colours, a multimeter and a car sized length of cable. But one of those signal injectors would also help. Or rewire as above. There would also be the issue of which signal and sense the sender and speedometer use. But there are some very clever and helpful people there who could design a converter if there isn't one available off the shelf... Jonathan
  14. I think that the question is about Ds rather than Cs... Jonathan
  15. Used on road or track or both? And how important is their performance in very wet conditions? Jonathan
  16. I'm glad that there wasn't any consequent damage. And jealous. Here's the modification, it's the same gasket but with additional holes: https://www.lotus7.club/forum/techtalk/k-series-18-sump-gasket https://www.lotus7.club/forum/techtalk/modifying-sump-gasket You can DIY or buy a modified one from DVA/oilyhands. Jonathan
  17. "I'll send an update once I've fitted the my new headlamps." Thanks. Please would you consider taking some photographs of the beam coverage when you've done one side to show the comparison. NB the need for not using automatic exposure if they're separate photographs! Jonathan
  18. "There is a drain hole in the bottom of the headlamp shell." Thank you! Jonathan
  19. "It was the "sausage roll" approach which failed on my car It looks like the wing was in place and silicone applied around the stanchion." I can't make out from the photograph... what separated? Was the silicone only around the underside of the stay and then up to the wing, or all around the stay (a sausage roll)? And had the paint been removed from the stay? Thanks Jonathan
  20. Vehicle Wiring Products: Indicator fuses Resettable circuit breakers (with indicators, I think) Piggyback fuses Jonathan
