  1. minister refresh will probably cost the same as the engine probably more important to know more about the engines history-difficult with a race engine unless they can show you all the data however, may still be a cheaper route to your goal than endless upgrades, especially if you can sell your engine jerry
  2. kipper fwb are the spitfire kit for 2000 De Dion (think i've posted the part no: on another thread) however, depending on mileage/use i'd reccommend this as being an opportune moment to fit the uprated stub axle- my cars a 2000 SLR and the N/S front failed about 18 months ago- scary moment on track- wouldn't do on the road jerry
  3. and be very careful about re-fitting the trapezoidal plate: 1. because it's a trapezoid not a rectangle. 2. it's very easy to strip the threads oh! and use a large area catch tank with newspaper over an even larger area jerry
  4. dave you do need shorter dampers to fit the "through tube" bolts i moved mounts when i changed to nitrons and AHC had the bolts on the shelf-sorry can't find the invoice with spec- but they aren't easy to find see recent thread on de dion failures for reasons to change jerry
  5. james question gets more complex as you get more replys (not necessarily answers 😬) my SLR came with original 13" split rims which i've used on road with ACB10's without difficulty over speed humps (but car is dry-sumped), but also a set of 15" compomotives with potenza SO2's which i now use on road / winter without any change to ride height / set-up quite happily although i'm sure this is 1.) lazy 2.) not optimal however, it's very obvious what you're paying for when you lift them back up onto the trailer wheel rack sure your planned use will change over time 😬 jerry
  6. jonathan good to hear you're keeping head and hands attached don't know gary may, but if he's a suspension set-up guru would think he would hane the kit to change your springs as well as doing set-up- may save an extra visit 🤔 are you aiming for longcross in april 🤔 jerry
  7. caterham sell a 4-2-1 as a direct cat replacement- not cheap £170 IIRC- but a true bolt on swap can't tell you the difference as apart from cat removal i had a couple of other mods done at the same time before it went to RR so no direct comparison must be worth the usual second a lap 😬 jerry
  8. jonathan we're busy enough this time of year already thank you 😬 jerry
  9. depends a bit on what you want to do, are they new slicks, how much "testing" are you going to do 🤔 personally i'd think it a bit of a waste cycling a new set of slicks on a nov. track day, but are you going with a "friend" which is demanding as much pace as you can muster 😬 darren- tyre warmers are not that uncommon at bike track days as lots of racers use them for testing and the overtaking in corners isn't always too tightly policed. in my experience most notably with michael rutter at donington (on a prepped R1 ) the w/e after he'd done the double in BSB on his ducati- so a couple of years ago- enlightening would be one way of putting it ❗ jerry
  10. kerbs 1,800k was apparently producing 267 prior to our first race last year- but DNF'd not sure which RR this was- David? same as yours when 203 @ 1,700 jerry
  11. ian thanks for the update as i'm listed as 6. and david's already confessed to photo 6 being his car i should say that my de dion PLATE cracked and only noticed at service-no handling problem my car is a 1999 kit SLR (Reg 2000) which has V3 of DD tube, but changed from Bilsteins (under mount) to Nitrons (through mount) had a good look at my tube after david e-mailed the pics of his tube (photo 6) after snett (when i was ) and all OK hope that sorts any misunderstanding jerry
  12. welcome james 1. yes: 2 2. @ 10,000 miles and most recent a further 4k on-but only the external rim over exhaust side- noted early so no 2ndary problems 4. 1,800 SLR 177bhp jerry
  13. reliability wise gearboxes have been an issue for the blackbird racers in our series this year downside wise they're difficult to get off the line (good news for some of us) but better than the radicals i'm sure the gearbox issue is related to wt/traction as i've done>40,000 miles on mine with no problems at all at least in a 7 aerodynamics take care of nicks problem 😬 jerry
  14. i've fitted mine inside the scuttle at the front secured with a riv-nut, then outside with the lower rear bolt for the caged SLR cage and the tail at the back with the self tapper for the boot cover popper have photos which i could e-mail if you need them it's easier than the tonneau, but worth taking a little time/care with ps this combination has survived a seasons racing without any problems jerry
  15. steve sorry, sounds like a horribly familar tale and i guess it depends on what your plans for the car are if you have to use it soon, then fill and change cap but you risk terminal head damage (plus more) the indicator fluid for exhaust gas in coolant doesn't always catch head gasket failure early if you're not needing to use the car urgently then i'd suggest it's time for early winter strip for engine upgrades (got to have a positive aspect to it). upgrades need not be power but reliability related- i've got several changes to coolant system as well as head gasket don't know of an engine builder to recommend local to you but there are numerous threads on the liner / HG set-up from my (fortunately limited) personal experience QED (see LF ad) turned my engine round on time and on budget which is pretty good compared to the woes of a couple of my friends hope it's ok jerry
  16. rog if you're doing much track work, happy to recommend pagid rs4 😬, but they're not cheap ☹️ jerry
  17. wonky custard i got my wheeels/nuts from caterham- 2 were so incorrectly sized i had to buy 2 more. both the head and shaft were 1mm too big. then had 1 shear off at the head/shaft connection when checking the torque before heading out on track (with a torque wrench 😬) jerry
  18. davef also read the article BOSS how many cars a day re-fuel? 400/day would only be a fraction of a% mis-fueling so i wouldn't dismiss it surely someone works for a breakdown/recovery service and can give us an idea 🤔 jerry
  19. shame they don't do them for the R500 wheels as i'd love some nuts that fit and don't break jerry
  20. oily he hasn't had a car to post anything about for over a year so you've got a good excuse 😬 what to do now-the arms race has just escalated in major fashion-as predicted by mr penn ☹️ 🤔 🤔 jerry
  21. oily was a very pleasant change to speak to david in good humour after a trip to a RR 😬- first time for about 2 years bad news is i'm not going to see which way he went at snett next w/e, will Kerbs motor be together 🤔 jerry
  22. ged apologies- had only looked under cooling system- but i've since got 1 from local auto factors (lightly cheaper) jerry
  23. back to the coolant temp. sensor for K-series, does anyone have a part no: and source- I've searched caterham on-line parts and archive without further info (except this thread) thanks jerry
  24. simon just had a look at my standard 2000 SLR- doesn't have this black (sensor?) no holes in the filter mount plate either in this location, so no i don't know what it is, but my car has never had one jerry
  25. mike i've got my nitrons right way up, but the front damping adjusters have still corroded stuck, so you'll have to maintain them more carefully than i did- regular washing, occasional WD40 and always garaged not enough perhaps i should adjust my suspension more often- only wanted to soften them for wet practice if you need to borrow a 9mm hex drive let me know as only up the road jerry
