    TIMING LIGHT

I have one which you could borrow (not sure which model) if that helps? James
  8. John You are correct the cranking amp figure is the important one for starting. The battery on my 7 is 180 amp. This seems perfectly adequate. Most tin tops have a figure of something like 350-400. Diesels are even higher. Hope this helps James
  9. I am in the process of fitting a cycle computer as well. After i measured the wheel etc the readings are a long way out! Also it seems to go crazy after about 50 mph! Any ideas? James
  10. Is the speedo the Caterham branded type? James
  11. Geoff Have you tried replacing the rad cap? I have seen a few dodgy caps which give similar symptoms. If the cap is faulty it could also cause an airlock in the system. James
  12. Arnie They probably use Brasso to run the rings in! James
  13. The reason for not using Mobil 1 or any other synthetic oil in a new engine is that it cannot bed the bearings and rings in. A decent non synthetic oil is much better then change it when it is run in. James
  14. Greg Think Automotive sell most sorts of hoses and fittings etc. Not sure of the address. They are near Heathrow. James
  15. I am thinking of changing to 13 inch wheels. What is the best combination of wheel and tyre size to use front and rear. Which tyres would be most suitable yoko avon etc Does anyone know the overall diameter of wheel and tyre? I am a bit worried about ground clearance. My 7 is a 1996 de-dion 16V vx. Should the camber or castor be adjusted for the different tyres? Thanks in advance James
  16. Ideally the floor should be as level as possible. For example one complete turn of the platforms can raise or lower that corner by 5mm or so. One turn out can make a lot of difference. The most accurate way of putting a car on the scales is to roll it on and off with the driver etc in the car. After adjustments the car should be rolled and bounced and the steering moved to settle the suspension (while off the scales) and then re-checked. James
  17. I had similar problems with my vx. I tried replacing the sponge baffle but this did not work. In the end I fitted a different type of wet sump without a sponge baffle. This has cured the problem. Not wanting to tell anyone how to suck eggs but Mobil 1 should be fine. If you use a thicker oil with the sponge baffle the problem will be worse! What happens is the oil cannot flow through the sponge quickly enough and you end up with no oil at the pick up pipe. Good luck James
  18. Nick Try www.yokohama.co.uk Also www.polleymotorsport.co.uk are about the cheapest and do mail order James

  20. Mick Do you know if the crutch straps fit the luke harnesses? Can they be fitted with the standard s type seats? If so can you let me know your address and ill put a cheque in the post. Many thanks James
  21. Steve The results look very promising! Where can I get the CW spreadsheet from? I was playing with a set of Longacre scales a few weeks ago and I want some! James

Warren Rally Design sell a lsd for the sierra type diff which seemed quite cheap. I am not sure which type it is. James
  23. V7 Would it be possible to use the vented rear discs and some 'normal' calipers to suit? It would seem the easiest option. From memory the Subaru could have rear discs and calipers for the footbrake and a small drum inside the disc for the handbrake. James
  24. Marius Would you split these parts? I could do with a manifold and carbs. James
  25. The large rear one goes to the sump. The smallest one can be blanked off. The other one should go to a catch tank. If you have the rocker cover off it is worth modifying the inner breather plate. James
