  8. I got a new manifold from Caterham earlier this year and it came with Swindon packaging etc Is this normally the case? Is the Swindon manifold a different set up? James
  9. Not wanting to state the obvious but if someone wants to know the spring rates why not test them? James
  10. Brake cleaner or carb cleaner normally does the trick for me. Try a small area first in case it affects the colour. James
  11. Steve When the clutch went it slipped before it broke. The flywheel showed signs that it got very hot. The pressure plate is now in use in another car and this has had no problems at all. I can only assume the standard clutch plate was not man enough for my car. iirc Arnie has broken a few pressure plate drive straps in his time.I think he was using a paddle plate at the time. Not sure how long they lasted him though. James
  12. Paul I used to have a 3.4 diff in my 7 which took it over 60 in 1st. It wasnt that bad to drive on the road but it is very hard to get a decent 0-60 time. It would either light the tyres up or bog down its very difficult to get it right. I have since re-fitted the 3.9 which is a lot more controlable. James
  13. Richard My standard vx clutch had a fairly short life. Approx 300 road miles! It was a new standard clutch from Caterham. It broke up the first time it had a quick pull away with 032r tyres on. The linings fell off one side of the clutch and a couple of springs broke. With hindsight it was a bit stupid to fit this. I was hoping to get a little more use than that out of it. The new clutch is a QM twin plate clutch and this has survived a lot of abuse. Sprints trackdays etc James
  14. Clutch out of balance? Just a thought. James
  15. Andy I know what you mean about the standard speedo. eg my stack will say 100 and the standard one is anywhere between 85 and 115! As for meaty under the bonnet i will give you a clue it has vauxhall written on it! It would be nice if it was a 3.6 as a few people are looking for these. James
  16. You lot have got me thinking now! I will check if it is a 3.4. It says so on the casing and my car was very high geared with it like 140 mph in 4th! James

  21. I keep getting a script error message for each different topic/page etc Any ideas? I tried a new hamster in the computer in case the old one was tired but this did not help. James

    Weber woes

Roger I use 48 SP's on my 16 v vx! Many people have said that it should be horrible to drive but I find it works really well on the road! Even sitting in traffic isnt as bad as you may think! James
  23. Jerry You need a caliper wind back tool. This turns the piston at the same time as pushing it in. You can get them from most car accessory shops. They are the same calipers as a Ford Sierra/Granada. James ps I have one if you want to borrow it
