  1. Before doing anything it would be worth checking the steering and suspension/bearings for excessive play. Also check the caliper fixings etc. Do you have access to a dial gauge? You can check the disk run out to see if thats it. By the way there should be a small amount. If not as Stewart says try de-glazing the front discs and pads. This can often cause similar problems. Have a good look at the discs and pads to see if there are any signs of excessive heat or contamination. Good luck James Su77on Se7ens

  3. Are they the ones advertise in Low Flying? If so they are great to see out of and nice and easy to fit. Only minor criticism is they look a tad on the large side-maybe a matter of taste? Also they do a spa or similar type mirror to fit on the same type of quick release. Have you got any pictures? They sent me a few piccies if you would like them let me know. Hope this helps. James Su77on Se7ens
  4. Not from memory (I just measured one!) 7.93 mm or 0.312 if you are old like me and still use proper measurements 😳 Hope thats accurate enough! Qed or SBD amongst others should be able to supply one. James Su77on Se7ens
  5. Thanks Doug At present my engine produces 0 bhp and 0 lb/ft of torque ☹️this is very even across the whole rev range with no horrible flat spots etc. In the new year I am hoping this to increase considerably 😬. Not sure what the output will be but it should be somewhere between 200 and 400 bhp See I told you i would spill the beans 😳 James
  6. I seem to remember reading on bc a while ago that the later (97 on) chassis has more castor built into it. Not sure why the change though. Maybe something to do with racing and not enough available adjustment etc. Castor is only really relevant when its measured up to about 20 degrees ie you probably wont be turning the steering more than this on a race circuit anyway. James
  7. Stewart/Paul Quite a few people said that the 48's are unsuitable for road use and decent throttle response and general driveability. Not sure if it makes any differences but I have got oversize wasted stem valves and lots of headwork (coscast head) similar spec I guess as SBD's 290bhp kit which I was reading about the other day *tongue*Maybe this helps? From what a few people have said about the vx's the exhaust makes a lot of difference. ie the standard system gives a midrange flatspot. What exhaust are you using? James
  8. Forgot to say that imho a decent dyno/rolling road would be able to get most things right. The only thing I had to sort with mine was a bit of a hesitation at lower revs. The idle jets and pump jets sorted it. After this it was great. James
  9. Paul I forgot to add that my carbs are 48's not 45's.Obviously the jet sizes would not be comparable. Personally I reckon that 45's are a much better bet unless the engine is really silly. iirc its got 42mm chokes. The cams were not too big.Not sure about lift/duration etc. DTA mapped ignition which I noticed a big difference over the standard type. It went well enough to get a quicker 0-60 than K2RUM at Brooklands Hopefully the new setup will be as driveable but I doubt it ☹️ James
  10. I have got carbs on my vx. Its got pretty big cams etc and after a bit of tweaking I reckon it runs great. No flat spots etc and pulls cleanly through 8500 rpm. Throttle response seems to be as good as injected engines. I personally think that most driveability problems could probably be ironed out unless the cams etc are really silly. My 7 does about 30 mpg on the road including a heavy right foot. I personally dont see how injection could improve greatly on this or driveability considering the costs involved. Also I prefer carbs so if it runs ok with the big cams I am fitting this winter then I will stick with them James
  11. Rob Please can you describe the parts of the bearing that wear in a bit more detail? Is it the same bearing as the one for a vx engine? James
  12. Dave Its a power thing 😳 James
  13. I just re-read the booklet to confirm. It says its a 1:1 wheel/damper ratio. Isnt the post 97 Caterham front suspension a rising rate setup? James
  14. 540 for a k makes my vx seem not quite so bad. iirc it was 580 with a screen fuel etc. All I need to do is make the engine lighter 😳 Oily Is it possible for you to send me a copy of your spreadsheet? James Edited by - james on 10 Dec 2002 19:00:57
  15. I feel that we may all be being a bit harsh on the Hiclone product. IS IT PURPLE? Not having seen one I cant say for sure but we all know that purple anodised products give an increase in bhp. I once saw a Nova which had numerous purple bits fitted in conjunction with a vastly superior aerodynamic package. Or it may have been a picnic table mounted on the boot lid. This vehicle was quicker, in the traffic lights grand prix, than ferraris and the like. The driver (Wayne) says "it aint half f*****g kwik geyser" which I think says it all. James
  16. It is the sport type clutch. No problem to drive in traffic at all. I use a cable operated clutch but imo a hydraulic setup would be much easier to use ie lighter etc and no problem with the cable breaking. Also I am sure it would be a bit more progressive. James
  17. I have used a quarter master 7 1/4 twin plate clutch for the last 5000 miles. Its the organic drive plate one. No problems despite my best efforts to break it. Its done 3 or 4 track days a couple of days at brooklands brighton speed trials etc and lots of general abuse. Its a bit heavier to use than a standard one but is pretty good in traffic. I have not measured the plates yet but there seems to be a bit of life left in it. Having said that I will probably put some new plates in to be on the safe side. James
  18. Chris Water injection - tell us more James
  19. Rob Please could you send me the info. Are there any pictures? It does sound like a load of crap I must admit. I am always interested in these ideas purely out of morbid curiousity i guess. A quick thought on these bolt on improvement ideas. How come no manufacturers fit them on their cars 😳 James
  20. I have e-mailed them for some more info James
  21. Mark Its only heavy when I am in it 😳 James (With a hand bag at weekends only)
  22. Steve I will buy your exhaust if that helps James Su77on Se7ens Pilot of the green and ali Babe Magnet

  24. Well I know which I would prefer Dave The only problem with the ali block vx engine is more than a few reliability issues. James Su77on Se7ens Pilot of the green and ali Babe Magnet
