Is that a euphemism for something? 😬
  2. Steve, Form in the post today for drift on 6th Oct. Cheers, Howard
  3. £7500 is a little on the low side for a 2000 but not far out. There are lots of them on Pistonheads and I notice my 1999 ex Vx 1.6 has had its price reduced twice now to £8.4k. Very reliable engines, though I've read elsewhere on here that parts are becoming harder to find. I wouldn't worry about the fact they're ex racers other than bear in mind they're short cockpits and taller drivers may have their knees touching the underside of the wheel. There's one on PH for £14k - someone is in for a rude awakening I fear ☹️

Greg, I can't advise re throttle bodies I'm afraid. You can retain the carbs and go to a 3D ECU (I think the latest MBE is the 967) but this will cost in the region of £400-500 new (you also need a new wiring harness and throttle pot which adds around £150 IIRC). I considered this but decided to go the easy option and just find a second hand ignition-only 906. My spare is one of these, but has a different connector from my current 12-pin plug, which would have meant a minor re-wire. Untried, but yours for £50 if you want it (comes with a dizzy and coil). Cheers, Howard

Greg, If it's an ignition-only MBE ECU (the 906 model in all likelihood with carbs if still the original) then they can't be opened up and fixed (this from the horse's mouth at MBE). Mine played up a few weeks ago and I bought a couple of spares for £50 each. Suffice to say I have a spare if you need one. All the best, Howard
  6. Also posted in ChitChat here Collect an ECU + coil from BarryT and bring home to Suffolk, I'll pop over to collect. Many thanks, Howard
  7. Barry, That sounds ideal I'll send you a mail offline. Cheers, Howard
  8. Thanks, Peter. I've just spoken to MBE who confirmed it is one of theirs - a type 905 apparently which is sadly unrepairable. They suggest one of two routes: Caterham have an adapter harness for a newer ECU if I want to stay with the distributor, or SB Developments if I want a coil pack arrangement. Any suggestions as to which is better, or am I better off trying to find a second hand 905? Cheers, Howard
  9. Further to my other thread about my ECU problem I've located and removed it but it doesn't give any clues about what type it is. I've taken a couple of photos here and here. Can anyone please help identify it? As far as I know it's the original ECU from a 1996 Vx 2.0 on Weber 45s. Many thanks, Howard Edited by - The Don on 1 May 2007 10:20:38
  10. Bryn, Thanks for the info. If you do decide to sell your standard ECU would you let me know please? All the best, Howard
  11. Thanks, Bryn, As far as I know it's the original, though (ahem ) I haven't actually been able to locate it yet. My original post was made from the rolling road and I now need to hunt around under the dash which is where my Vx Classic's was - where's yours? When are you planning on changing yours?
  12. I should the symptoms of this are a momentary drop in revs at idle every few secs, and (I assume this is related) a pronounced stutter when pulling away from junctions, ie. dead spot.
  13. At the rolling road today at under 1200 rpm there's an extra spark every few seconds and the dwell is jumping between 52 and 61. Proved the coil though couldn't test the amplifier. Anyone else had this problem? 1996 Vx XE w/ QED 42H cams. Weber 45 DCOEs. I don't know what sort of ECU it is - anyone know? Thanks, Howard Edited by - The Don on 30 Apr 2007 17:40:04
