  1. Anton I was only interested in the Ford one so I may have got it wrong, it may be the Vauxhall one is 47cm and the Ford/Rover one should be 52cm. Guy
  2. Anton I have just finished rebuilding my car and I noticed that the prop shaft looked too short. I contacted a "recognised 7 garage" and they told me there are two lengths of shaft used with De Dion cars. Measuring from the centres of the UJ's the Vauxhall/Rover one is 47cm and the Ford one should be 52cm. Mine turns out to be the wrong one but the "recognised 7 garage" said they have seen a few factory built cars with the wrong shafts fitted without any adverse effect, indeed mine has done 10K miles without any problems and no apparent wear to the splines. Can you let me know what CC say about your situation? Luke I may decide to change mine but I disagree that it's an easy job to change, as the diff has to come out, or is this not the case with the SV? Guy
  3. Thanks Nigel, point taken will replace it this week, car passed MOT this morning, the sun's out and I'm off blating. Guy
  4. Mark Building such fine cars has obviously made you a good engineer, it’s a pressure switch. Whacked it with a spanner, pumped the pedal, works fine now. Thanks very much Guy
  5. I have an MOT booked for 09.00 tomorrow after a rebuild and I have a problem with the brake light switch. If you gently press the pedal the brake lights work OK but the harder it is pressed the dimmer the lights go until the eventually go out altogether. I have tested the switch with a meter and the voltage drops as the peddle is depressed so it’s not an earth problem. Unless anyone has any other suggestions I think it’s safe to say the switch is duff, does anyone know what this part was originally made for, or better still does anyone have a spare one in the West London, West Surrey, Berkshire, Hants area? Guy
  6. Can anyone help me with the (Ford) part number for the diff bearing oil seals for the Sierra unit. I have bought a pair of oil seals (Ford) part number 6107894 which looks right (the absence of model, year & chassis number didn’t impress my local Ford dealer), but before I remove the old one's I want top make sure. Anyone know the number or has got one lying about in their Garage they could have a look at for me? Guy
  7. Sorry Brent, yes it will be MANGO. Should be at the S O M Wednesday, BTCC motors TV Now Guy
  8. Who said it is going to be MANGO??? Guy
  9. Adam Thanks, will use Phoenix Elite Cars. You have an MOT and I still haven't heard your car on the Frimley Road??? Guy Sorry, I did not hear from you so I bought a new one from Redline on Thursday. What colour is your car??? Guy
  10. I think you have to have a (rear) fog light(s) on warning light, an indicator on warning light and a main beam on warning light. Adam, where did you get your MOT done? Guy
  11. NO - spare wheel carrier went in dustbin last week Guy
  12. Nemesis - I take it that question was directed at Brent? Guy
  13. Ha Ha so you have recovered from your cold and are back to normal again then Brent? Guy
  14. I am in the process of fitting a new carbon dash and want to replace the standard rocker switches with toggle switches, however I am not sure about the legal/MOT issues of: A. Doing away with the brake fluid warning/test switch B. Using switches that do not illuminate when the sidelights are on. My car is on a Q plate and was first registered in 1995, can anyone advise me if either of the above would cause me a problem with getting an MOT? Thanks Guy
  15. Adam, Yes it was me, I sold 10 prisoner wheels (to 2 different "CUSTOMERS") for a total of £690 + P & P, absolute madness, I only expected to get £50 to £100 per set!. As I said to you the other day, if your selling redundant 7 parts use eBay as you get all the Locost type buyers there and they seem to pay top money for genuine Caterham parts! 16. Nine days until Brent sells his 7 Guy
  17. Page 113 of the Demon Tweeks catalogue code No: SLV432C £160 a set. Guy
  18. Thanks Dave That explains why the hub end is different. Guy
  19. Thanks for your replies, Tom your right mine are the slide in ones and they are also detailed in the Haynes manual. The confusion was that the manual states that the 'Lobro' shafts are fitted to Sierra’s with disc brakes and the slide in shafts with drum braked cars, where as Caterham have used the slide in type with disc’s? Thanks again Guy
  20. I have a 1990 De Dion which has disk rear brakes, the diagrams in the Haynes manual for the drive shaft/hub assembly for disk braked Sierra’s looks different and states you have to unbolt the shafts from the diff to get them off, mine just slid out! However the diagrams for the drum brake assemblies looks more like mine. Can anyone tell me if I am I being stupid or is my car fitted with the drum brake drive shaft/hub assemblies and disk brakes and if so is this standard? Guy
  21. Steve So basicly, bring all the things that are missing from upstairs? Guy
  22. Bl 😬 😬dy hell Kev, military operation or what old boy? Guy
  23. Well I thought it was funny Brent, but there again most people think I'm a twat any way. p.s. Thanks for your help with keeping my kids warm at Brands on Sunday, it is probably going to cost me £3000. Guy
