  1. well caterham seem to think that the 9.2v my Hawker battery produces during cranking is not enough for reliable starting. SO I wil lbe testing with anopther battery (probably using jump leads) to see what happens. I'm not that convinced, but I guess I need to eliminate it. I hope it's not the batt as I spent ages lovingly fitting my custom battery box! Graham

Thanks Jools, I won't be there I'm afraid. How much are you looking for? Regards Graham
  3. anyone know how to start an R500 when you have ahem, stalled it (it just cranks and cranks with no sign of life - if it was carbs I would try with WOT, but that doesn't seem to help)? Leaving it for an hour works. Tks Graham
  4. good grief, give the guy a chance you lot. He tries to get involved and all you want to do is be neg about it. Advertise away Simon that's what I say. Graham

just for clarity, is the size 52 inches? If so it's a little large for me, if not I may be interested. Regards Graham
  6. all reports are of much better grip with ACBs than 032s - born out by the rate they wear out. You should be changing camber to use one or the other (depending on what you are set up for) - adjustable at the front, change of ears at the rear. Not sure what happens if you don't though! Graham
  7. AFAIK the rim sizes are the same on the SLR and the R500. Will need to change front and rear camber (involving ears at the back). Although I am hoping to run slicks for trackdays on my R500 set up for CR500 radials. Did that make sense? The slicks basically require the same camber as ACB10s, ie not that set for the CR500s. Graham and some days I get even less lucid!
  8. I got my new solenoid ro £10 from an auto-electrical shop in Mitcham. Included a bespoke connection so it didn't have that stupid lump on it! GRaham
  9. wanted FIA spec race suit size 38" chest. Tks Graham
  10. I have done this recently and had help from others. It is fairly straightforward. You can poisition the bits on the scuttle fix with velcro and then plug everything in. You end up with a big bundle going down the rh engine bay cross brace. I found it ieasier to remove the trumpets and back plate to do this. Things that are not obvious are the temp senders (oil and water) which you just guess and change when you run the engine up. And all the things that go nowhere. I have a couple of pics from someone else that I used for reference. Would you like them emailed? Also any specific questions pls ask. Graham
  11. just out of interest, is your engine new or has it done 500 milkes since fitting a new seal? If the engine is new, should it be repaired under warranty? If you have fitted a new seal 500 miles ago, was it fitted to fix a leak or for some other reason. Has it leaked ever since fitting the seal or only after 500 miles? Graham

  15. Peter C has alerted me to your problem. I found a place in Mitcham (sorry not Camberley)when I had a stuffed solenoid. They did me a new (or maybe recon) one for a tenner with the connections that I requested which solved the problem for me. The details are...Grove Autoparts in Mitcham. 0208 640 3068. Hope this helps. Graham GRidgway
  16. I vote we all buy him a beer. Anyone agree???? GRidgway
  17. I am unable to go to the track day at Goodwood this sat (7th). It is a day organised by the Lotus Elite register, they do not really mind the type of car attending (Lotus, Caterham etc). Its a "loud" day meaning 105db at 2/3 max rpm static, 101db 10M driveby, 5 cars on track at any one time. The pit lane is open. First come, first served and if anyone wants to make a donation to NTL (proper cost of the day £90) feel free! Please contact me on this email address or 07713 988555 Graham R
  18. Clutch mechanism - yes pls! Have you managed to get rid of that grin yet? MY neighbours weren't sure what to complain about - the noise or the excessive grinning!! Graham

  22. I have Pagids - great all the time. Believe it or not they are the same ones that did the 'ring record 2 1/2 years ago! DOn;t tell Peter C, he'll have a fit about my inability to press the pedal hard enough! Graham
  23. What's your email address Rob? Graham
  24. I would be interested in 2 6" & 2 7" 97 DD. I need to confirm that the CR500 fronts and rears fit these sizes though (the standard R500 wheels are 6.5 & 8.5 I think)- anyone any idea? Graham (gridgway@netcomuk.co.uk)
  25. Should we converse by voice on the matter?? I can be reached in the evening on 0181 330 5719 Graham
