So now it'll have more gizmos than, well a lot! Got oil cooler, triple pass rad and apollo tank (as well as dry sump). Also rear exit exhaust and hugely expensive carbon airbox to be quieter than a quiet thing at a track day. Available to view in early sept. Offers min 31.5k Anyone interested? SLR noise level?

My SLR was at 105 with its knackered standard box. If you have access to a noise meter you can measure before you go. If the box is more than about 18-24 months old it could be knackered. I got down below 98 with a new SLR race box, but you should be ok if your standard box is still stuffed full of stuff! You can take it off and turn it end for end. If its knacked you cane hear the stuffing slipping from end to end. ANyway you shoudl have waited for my R500 - fully silenced for all eventualities! :-)) Graham
  3. on the colour front, Mclaren Orange is not one of the dayglo colours. My Mclaren Orange didn't seem to fade in 2 years. Graham
  4. are not DM's comments purely related to the r500 engine? graham
  5. what about a-frame bush with the dd tube? Graham

    R500

no, prob going for a downgrade. It's an expensive piece of kit that needs proper looking after. Just a little too expensive for me. Graham

    R500

brand new, no screen, FIA bar, monte carlo mteallic blue, 400 miles only. Serious enquiries in excess of 30k only please. Graham
  8. I think I have one in the gge (k series) that I can "lend" to someone. Just let me know an address and promise to send me a new one when you get it! First come, by email, first served Graham
  9. the black spacers are used as spacers! One to adjust the tilt to one's preference and secondly to fill the gap on the front corner which is bigger to allow for the drivers adjustment mechanism. My thought is to use as few spacers as poss to keep the seats at their lowest. On the passenger side use lots at the front to tilt the seat well back. This allows the FIA brace to be fitted. On the drivers side use them to get the seat comfortable. I have fitted mine flat at the moment and I am going to change it to have it tilted back slightly. I assume you know how the runners fit on either side? If not let me know and I will explain. Graham Graham
  10. roadsports racers (if that's what you mean) are on ACB10s. Boy are they good! Graham
  11. I had this several times on my VHPD. Each time a new oil pressure sensor did the trick. A good first place to start. Mr Carmichael was so rough on my car at Brooklands that the OP gauge could only read full (8bar) in protest!! :=)) Graham Only joking Peter
  12. holy rack bridge different section tubes at the back (lighter in places) Graham
  13. as an alternative, fit it flat which will give some sticking out on the inside edge (next to the bodywork) and trim the excess v carefully with a dremel. Graham
  14. this is what noce Mr Banner said in response to the same enquiry from me.... Dear Graham Ridgway We recommend that you use a Banner 53034 Battery which gives 300 cca according to EN. This is supplied by Banner to Caterham as original equipment. You will be able to purchase it from Caterham or from a Banner stockist. The nearest to you is ARE Ltd 151 Hersham Road Walton on Thames KT12 5NR Tel 01932 231298 If you need any further info please telephone us on 01889 571100 and ask for Jason Parrish. Regards Alec Morgan
  15. use a sharp drill in a hand drill. Tape over where you are drilling, drill slowly and lightly. If you are drilling a bigger hole than a drill, such as a starter button, you can drill round with smaller drills and use a dremel to clean the edges. GRaham
  16. yep great idea. I would do it for the CR500s, but am not GPS enabled. Graham
  17. just carry a can of tyreweld, don;t carry a spare and cut off the carrier. Best of all worlds! Graham
  18. aaahhhh there is a flaw in my previous post! I meant to say that the problem has NOT gone away! I spent an interesting sunday afternoon not frightenting old ladies, but feeling inadequate looking at my engine not knowing how to get it started! I have installed the proper batt tray and battery. But have ano Hawker kindly lent by Jason Krebs to try. What a pain, looks like tuesday at Castle Coombe is off. Graham
  19. well boys and girls I have tried with a banner battery. This seems to give about 9.4v cranking voltage (which by all accounts is not enough). Surprise, surprise the prob has gone away. So anyone any thoughts? Is the voltage a red herring? Is there some fault which is diminishing the voltage (I measured it on the batt terminals), or is it something else? Maybe the R500 is only designed to be driven, then stopped for a rest!!! I'll be trying jason's spare battery next! Graham Edited by - gridgway on 8 Apr 2001 21:58:17
  20. 6 speeder no doubt. Graham
  21. not sure and maybe not. My SLR rims were welded to stop air leaks. AFAIK all were. However if they are the newer R500 type, then they could be split. Graham
  22. not sure about the used to start airplanes bit. It's all to do with voltage. If the charagteristics of the battery are to produce a big cranking current, but at a voltage of 9.2 it'll only start certain engines. Eg my old vaux Viva that had a 6v coil and ballast resistor. So it would deliver 9.2v to the coil when cranking whic hwould be plenty for starting. Graham
  23. I measured the 9.2 with a digi voltmeter direct to the battery. It would seem that these batteries are only really meant for running, not for starting. The received wisdom is that they would normally be boosted for starting. So it looks like the "low" cranking voltage is designed in in some way. We'll see what happens to the starting properties with the fitment of a standard banner battery. Graham
  24. so here's where we are...Martin Hill at Race Technology has tested ano Hawker battery and it produces 9.2v at 300 amps. Everyone agrees that it isn't enough to power the electronic gismos in an MBE managed (or any other for that matter) engine. So we'll go back to the standard caterham banner fitment to see what happens...watch this space. Graham
