  1. not sure if the R500 one is considerably more beefy than the standard one. It was built for aesthetics over the standard one. Graham
  2. two things to help choose...how easy are they to get to and from? Do you feel the need for a Caterham approved history. Graham

I think that the MGF cup runs a VHPD. Not entirely sure though. Graham
  4. not really, just a sensible car meter with a shunt. does amps fine. Graham
  5. don't know about the wire, but the symptoms sound like classic failed OP sensor. Graham
  6. JH, I had similar probs in my vauxhall viva many years ago. I rebuilt it with my Dad (car mechanic) due to low OP on tickover. When we came to bolt up the reground crank we found it would only turn if 2 out of the 3 mains were cranked up! We had no funds to do anything else so we bolted it up and hoped. It took 2 fully charged batteries to crank and fire, but ran. It actually ran fine but would never re-start (or even turn over) after it had stopped when it was hot! We concluded it was a warped block. AFter about 5k miles it loosened up and was fine (revved to about 6.5k). It did regain the OP light on at tickover though! Sold it after about 30k miles after the re-build! Graham
  7. I think that Avon have changed the CR500s for the supergrads or roadsport B's can't remember which so they don't overheat on track. Not sure if they come in the right size for the rears tho'. Graham
  8. "they all do that sir" not a problem. Graham
  9. mine has an ally sheet covering it (the wood that is). Hmmm better take it out to save weight (whoops infected by Carmichaelitis). Graham R
  10. Didn't the Evo Mag boys have a VX classic with a 6 spd box? WOrth an email to them, they are good at responding or ask Richard at Curborough
  11. when I asked Jez about it, the bolts are key to the bar installation being able to bear the forces required by the 'FIA spec'. Looking at them, it's hard to see that they add that much to the installation, but as they are trivial to fit, it's a no brainer.
  12. I think Ian at GRL does have a rolling road, but it has been broked. Might be ok now! Ian is back from hols next tues, best to call him and check. Graham
  13. you can get them from caterham. I also have a spare which I have been known to lend to people! If you want to borrow mine, let me know with a snail mail address and I'll post it to you. Graham
  14. not sure on size, but they have to be ground down to avoind fouling the shocks. Graham
  15. I can only think that there is a fault inside the bell housing with the lever or the pivot point. I can;t remember when building, but is it poss to put the level the wrong way round? Don;t take my word for it, but I can;t think of anything to do other than pull the engine. Wait till better authorities have replied or call Caterham techy help first though! Graham

    Tyre racks

Go with the other mentioned, the arrowstar one is much more expensive. I have one of the former and it's fantastic, first class. Graham
  17. Absolutely Keith, spot on. When I put on a side exit R500 exhaust to do a check on horsepower-drain from the rear exit, I drove round with it on for a time, absolutely brilliant. I never got to exercise the extra horses it liberated for the time it was on, but the sound made up for it (nearly)! Graham

    Slicks help

used SLR race series slicks are relatively readily available, but they are not necc much good for the front (so I am told). As it's hard to get warmth in the front tyres, they are often quite hard by the time they are finished with. I was going down that route, but I will prob go the ACB10 route. Graham
  19. I have the air box and the rear exit exhaust system. It's so quiet you can get on anywhere! I am planning to upgrade to the BTB side exit or an alternative at some point this year. I spoke to Jez Coates on the subject at the end of last year and he said Caterham would be selling a quieter side exit, but it has not seen the light of day yet. Probably due to too much X-preoccupation. Graham
  20. Go to Ian Smith at GRL Motors in woking, he is infallible in these (and most other car) matters. 01483 725759. tell him Graham sent you! Graham
  21. Mick Attree is building a 7 with a Duratec at the moment. Graham
  22. hmmm, we couldn't actually get all the bits out of Peter's car into the garage! :-) Graham
  23. me too it works very well. Graham
  24. 151.20024 actually :-) Graham (really must learn how to do smileys)
